The purpose of this study is to survey the impact of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) on urban brand formation and to suggest policy implications for sustainable growth. To achieve this, the study examines the concept of ESG and the current status of ESG evaluation indicators for domestic companies and basic local governments, and reviews the theoretical background of urban brand formation to establish a research model. A survey was conducted among residents of the Bitgaram Innovation City in Naju, Jeollanam-do, and the results showed that most ESG factors positively influence urban branding, with the governance (G) factor having a particularly significant impact. The attitude towards the urban brand positively influenced urban brand loyalty, with the residential environment image showing the greatest influence. This study suggests that ESG has a positive effect on urban brand formation and that residents, experts, and urban governments should collaborate to promote ESG urban planning for sustainable growth. Additionally, it highlights the need for future development directions and further research.

This study analyzes changes in rural centers of Jeollanam-do due to population movement through Social Network Analysis. Key findings include: 1. Population Trends: Both in-migration and out-migration in Jeollanam-do have declined, with out-migration decreasing more sharply. Since 2020, net migration has increased. 2. Migration Patterns: Movement to the Seoul metropolitan area and Gwangju has decreased, while intra-regional movement within Jeollanam-do Eup-Myeon has risen. 3. The network connectivity between towns and townships, driven by population movement, has weakened. Since 2023, the influence of central areas within the network has significantly diminished. 4. The centrality of population movement was higher in towns and areas undergoing new town development. However, certain towns were identified as failing to function as central hubs in terms of population movement. 5. Migration Motivations: Employment and housing have become key migration drivers, while family, education, and environment have decreased in importance.

This study aims to derive smart technologies applicable to suburban senior towns from the Busan Eco Delta smart city. The analysis based on survey are designed to identify the priorities, importance, and preferences of experts in the fields of construction and social welfare, and seniors over 60 years old living in the city. The AHP analysis showed that the top priority areas of smart city technology for suburban senior towns include safety, life/culture, transportation, water/environment, and energy. Among the total of 20 detailed technologies, the 6 smart technologies of intelligent CCTV, facial recognition access system, unmanned security robot system, wellness center(remote medical treatment), energy passive house, and self-driving unmanned shuttle top the list. IPA analysis based on the survey on seniors over 60 years old living in the city showed the importance ranking of smart technologies follow micro dust management, smart crosswalks, real-time health management system, intelligent CCTV, wellness center(remote medical treatment), and smart water supply management. It also showed that the preference ranking follow real-time health management system, wellness center(remote medical treatment), micro dust management, smart crosswalk, intelligent CCTV, and facial recognition access system. The findings from this paper can be a basis for application of the smart city technologies in suburban senior towns.

This study analyzes performance management systems of Korea’s land, urban and infrastructure ODA projects, identifying key challenges such as a predominant focus on short-term outcomes, inconsistent data collection and utilization, and varying performance standards across implementing agencies. To address these issues, the study proposes several key improvements: implementing a comprehensive data quality management framework, developing tailored performance management guidelines and manuals specific to the unique characteristics of these projects, designating and operating a dedicated performance management institution, and strengthening the capacity of implementing agencies through targeted support and training. These measures are designed to enhance the effectiveness, coherence, and sustainability of Korea’s international development cooperation efforts, ensuring that projects deliver meaningful and lasting impact in developing countries while aligning with global development goals.

This study analyzes how international development cooperation projects in urban planning can fail to achieve balanced outcomes when community participation is distorted, focusing on Zanzibar’s “Green Corridor” project in Tanzania as an example of transforming a vehicle-oriented main road into a sustainable, pedestrian-friendly street. This research reveals how normative goals (e.g., environmental protection, walkability) can overshadow functional needs (e.g., mobility, economic viability) if resident input is not appropriately managed. Through participatory observation, surveys, and stakeholder analysis, this study identifies how biased representation, incomplete information, and limited planner’s intervention can exacerbate goal imbalances, undermine consensus, and reduce project feasibility. Rather than ensuring context-sensitive solutions, poorly designed participatory processes can validate unrealistic ideals. This research suggests that planners must adopt a more proactive role, acting as both mediators and verifiers, in addition to their traditional technical functions. By balancing diverse interests, rectifying skewed feedback, and grounding decisions in solid evidence, this research offers practical insights into developing more equitable, sustainable urban plans in international development contexts.

This study presents a framework and strategy for cooperative development initiativesinspired by the concept of Green Détente in the border region between South and NorthKorea. While the inter-Korean border area faces significant constraints due to political andmilitary considerations, it also offers substantial potential for fostering peace andcollaboration. Grounded in the Yoon Suk-Yeol administration’s Green Détente policy, thisresearch aims to identify development projects that align with the region’s uniquecharacteristics and the evolving dynamics of inter-Korean relations, fostering incrementalgrowth. Focusing on the western border, the study advocates for the establishment of a“Carbon-Neutral and RE100-Compliant Industrial Complex,” designed to harness renewable energy as a platform for advancing industrial and environmental cooperation between the two Koreas. The findings provide valuable insights for shaping government policies on the border region and inter-Korean relations, laying a foundation for regional development through adaptable scenarios that respond to shifts in inter-Korean relations.

Coastal areas are spaces where various activities, such as marine leisure and fishing, occur simultaneously. Recently, with the sharp increase in marine leisure activities, conflicts with traditional fishing operations have arisen. Among these, Haerujil, a non-commercial marine resource harvesting activity conducted by non-fishermen, has become widely popular due to recent media exposure, leading to a significant increase in participation. However, Haerujil is primarily conducted at night, making it difficult to regulate and monitor, while also raising safety concerns for participants, necessitating urgent solutions. The primary objective of this study is to systematically analyze the issues surrounding Haerujil, which conflicts with fishermen’s livelihoods, and to explore sustainable coexistence strategies between marine leisure and fishing activities. To achieve this, the study employs TF-IDF analysis, Trigram, and CONCOR analysis on news articles and social media posts to compare and analyze public and media perceptions of Haerujil. Additionally, GIS was utilized to visualize reported incidents and regulatory actions concerning Haerujil, supplemented by in-depth interviews with experts to reinforce the research findings. Based on the analysis, key issues related to Haerujil were categorized into four themes: (1) Stakeholder Coordination, (2) Safety Management, (3) Coastal Tourism Development, and (4) Legal Frameworks. This paper is significant in that it focuses on Haerujil, an issue that has not been addressed in the context of coastal area development through marine tourism. By analyzing the conflicts and coexistence strategies between marine tourists and fishermen, this research provides valuable insights. The findings are expected to serve as foundational data for future policies and research aimed at promoting the harmonious and sustainable development of coastal area economies in the long term.
