A great deal of study is being carried out to cope with climate change. Very little attention has been paid to figure out the features of differences and similarities between the various researches related to climate change. This paper aims to find out the trend and characteristics of climate change research by using social network analysis. Also, the research attempts to explore some characteristics in climate change research with a forty-year time span, which is appropriate because many studies on climate change have been conducted since the late 1980s. Contents analysis and social network analysis are adopted as the methodology of this empirical study. This article reflects that various researches on climate change cover a wide range from engineering to social science. The results of the analysis also show that collaborative studies on climate change is actively performed in social science and humanities as well as natural science and engineering.

The purpose of this study is to construct the Jeju-do Regional Economic Forecasting Model. We analyze the Jeju-do economy and examine the inter-sectoral relationships in the region. This model consists of seven blocks-production block, employment block, wage and price level block, financial block, public finance block, foreign sector block, and other block. This model also consists of seventeen behavioral equations, three identity equations so that the model is the simultaneous equation system of twenty structural equations. We consider Ordinary Least Squares(OLS) as the estimation method. We rely on the Root Mean Squared Percent Error(RMSE%) in the evaluation of the models. And this model show the satisfactory levels of RMSE%, excepting import. After identifying the best model structure in term of the RMSE%, we perform policy simulation to measure the effects of three exogenous shocks on the Jeju-do regional economy; exchange rate shock, foreigner tourist shock, and real national income shock. The result of the policy simulation is consistent with what various macroeconomic theories predicts.

The main purpose of the paper is to examine the effects of locational characteristics to the competitiveness of regional financial institutions in small and mediumsized cities. An empirical analysis was done based on the data, collected from branches of financial institutions in Cheon-An City, with a time frame from 2009 to 2011 for 3 years. Some interesting results were derived as follow: First, it was found, based on the multiple regression analysis, the number of VIP customers and competing branches are the most important variables affecting the competitiveness of the regional financial institution in small and medium-sized cities. Among them, it turns out that the number of competing branches has been the most influential factor. It is estimated that asset under trust decreases about 1.52 billion Korean won as one additional competing branch opens. The result differs from the previous studies which pointed out that the most influential factors for branches of financial institutions were the number of households, business entities and VIP customers. Second, it also turns out that land zoning has strong positive relation with asset under trust. If a financial branch locates in commercial area, it can attract much higher asset under trust than other branches in non-commercial area. Finally, when assessing location for opening a new branch in small to medium size of cities in countryside, careful consideration needs to be made even for non-competing area, not to mention for competitive environment. It is recommended that a decision to open a branch of financial institution need to be made based on master development plan and development status within the area.

Although the housing tenure choice has been one of the main research topics in housing studies for a long time, there have been little empirical researches that focused on regional area in Korea. However, as a substantial decentralization of population in the capital region is expected under government policy which includes relocation of public agencies and development of regional innovation cities, it is more needed to understand migration behavior and housing choice in regional areas. This paper studied the effects of household characteristics on housing choice based on the logistic regression analysis using Chungcheong regional data of Housing Condition Survey, and gave various implications for further research from the empirical results of analysis.

Recently, a spatial and administrative integration of Masan, Changwon, and Jinhae have stimulated not only existing unbalanced development problems but also have resulted in discussions and disputes on integration of other cities in Korea. However, the main interests after integration tend to be paid to win-win effect of each city-how to improve the areas at same time with cooperative strategies for regional development. We have an element analysis through the confidence analysis using SPSS 12.0 windows and a correlation analysis through the structural equation using AMOS 18.0. The aim of this study is to analyze the inter-relationship(cause and effect) between the win-win strategies for regional development by understanding the relative influences among the cities (Changwon metropolitan city after integration). In confirmative analysis, we use the AMOS 18.0 which is a way of the structural equation and try to clarify the correlation of the win-win strategies for city and regional development and the necessity. As a result, we found that which factors were related to the integration and physical, social, cultural and institutional systems(types) were related to the win-win strategies for the cities. Also, we identified a political environment for the efficient regional development as follows; First, as win-win strategies ,in case of integrated Changwon, physical facilities and institutional system types were more important than the social-cultural types. For the regional development, that is, most citizens regarded that supplement of facilities and institutional system(types) would be more important than opportunities for cultural leisures. Second, the Institutional system(types) were the least important in the physical, social-cultural, and institutional systems(types) for the effect of the win-win strategies. In particular, the social-cultural types are the most important factor for regional development. It means that the physical types(improvement of old facilities and roads, street environment and traffic system) and the social-cultural type(increase of amenity, green place and welfare facilities) are more important than the arrangement of institutional system for the win-win strategies for cities. Consequently, it is needed to secure the facilities that can be used for making communities like cultural places in the cities. Third, it seems that the structural equation analysis model used for the integrated Changwon was adopted properly as a whole. And the causality of win-win strategies was statistically significant ranking as physical type and regional development (1)→ regional development and institutional system (2) → regional development and physical type (3). However, it is desirable to have their own cultural characteristics for balanced sustainable development among cities and cities although it is important to improve the old facilities and institutional system.

The labor mobility is a kind of individual problem being related to wage, social and economic status, job, and residence. In youth class, the choice of labor market is important for individual career, mobility, and job. The purpose of this paper is to know the effect of labor spatial mobility and education in entering labor market of youth. In this study the Korea Youth Panel 2001 is used to search the labor mobility and other variables. We estimate the returns of mobility and education using the Micerian wage model and OLS method. The effect of labor spatial mobility to wage is -0.259. and the education is 0.039. But the effect of education is 0.059 in labor spatial mobility. It is explained of the characteristics of youth labor maket and the compensation structure between labor mobility and wage. In the interaction effect between the choice of labor market and the year of education, the returns of wage is high if the labor mobility is existed. It means that the higher competency person has the characteristics to move labor market for high rewards. It has two implications in regional planning. The first is the needs of incentives to attract young employment. The second is to promote the employment information between workers and firms.

As a method for change in traditional markets, since 2008 a cultural tourism style market promotion project has been pursued to cultivate traditional markets as specialized markets that are related with local cultures and tourism resources; however, failure to look at the whole commercial area and support for only the markets have been exposed as limitations of this project. Consequently, a very meaningful commercial area promotion project was carried out in 2011 after putting forth effort in reviving sluggish Korean commercial areas through an analysis of the trend of foreign support policies for traditional commercial areas. Existing support projects for traditional markets have shown limitations in enhancing performances as they have been merely a quantitative support focusing on unilateral public infrastructure. As a result, this project aimed to promote the local economy through promotion focusing on commercial areas related to traditional markets. Despite this fact, this project has confronted great difficulties owing to the lack of necessary legal interested parties for the execution of the project because it was composed of various interested parties including local governments (assemblies), local governments for metropolitan cities, foundations, merchant committees, and the Small & Medium Business Administration. Accordingly, this study deduced relevant problems and solutions by analyzing the work procedures and institutional procedures for the commercial area promotion project.

Climate change is a phenomenon that occurs all around the world, it brings political, economic, and social issues over environmental issues. The main cause of climate change is the increase of CO₂emissions and because of it the number of extreme weather and economic damage is increasing rapidly. The proportion of urban population is about 50%, but they consume approximately 2/3 of the total energy consumption. So some argue that urbanization accelerates environmental pollution. In contrast, there is an another opinion that urbanization may create environmental benefits. In this study we conduct empirical analysis using STIRPAT model to find factors that affecting CO₂emissions and trying to reveal the relationship between urbanization and CO₂emissions. Our panel consists of 107 countries and spans the period between 1980 and 2008. We employ a panel fixed- effects by using STATA 12.0 program. Our main results show a non-linear relationship between urbanization and CO₂emissions. The impact of urbanization on CO₂emissions is positive in the early and middle stages of urbanization, but in the high level of urbanization it tends to decrease CO₂emissions.

The spatial clustering of unplanned, leapfrogging establishments of manufacturing firms in urban fringes has generated considerable negative externality such as the increase of social cost due to the deficiency of key infrastructure such as road, the pollution of surrounding environment and the frequent rise of conflicts with residents in neighbouring areas, etc. Since the introduction of semi-agricultural zoning system in 1995, the industrial urban sprawl tendency has been severly accelerated, intensifying the problems derived from the haphazard land uses and the consequent spatial clustering of footloose locations of factories. There has been many discussions emphasizing that the individual manufacturing firms needs to be collectivized by, for example, designating semi industrial complex targeting the areas of manifesting industrial sprawl. This study aims at empirically examining the spatial diffusion process of industrial sprawl over urban outskirts to identify the localities with potential problems due to the spatial clustering of the footloose locations of factories. Spatial statistical model was developed to this end, and it was empirically applied to the City of Hwasung, Gyonggi-Province, Korea. Based on the analysis results, some applicable policy tools was discussed to the sprawled areas to mitigate the potential problems.

Korean Government has promoted the development of the country and mostly focused on metropolitan regions and industrial hubs since 1960s. That has worked in some extents, but local small cities have been relatively excepted in economic and social developments. Those cities have had the spreading of deteriorating housing area as the two factors have declined. Recently the Korean Government and academics have tried to improve the residential condition in those area. It is hard to develop pin-pointing policies due to the lack of the analysis on those areas. This study tries to understand the current status of deteriorated housing areas in local small cities and suggest alternative improvements. By analyzing data from literatures and local governments, this study could find that the populations size of city is strongly related with the extent of deterioration of housing area. The structures, facilities, and sizes of housing are getting worse as the population size of cities become smaller. The deteriorated housing area’s conditions vary with the number of houses and infrastructure conditions. Withe the understanding of the current status, this study suggests the alternatives for the deteriorated housing area as following: developing affordable housing supply and repair model, increasing public participation and support system, and suggesting the total approaching system.

It is widely recognized that the plan for industrial arrangement is important for activating industrial park. The plan for industrial arrangement in industrial park should be set up with the fundamental understanding for the industrial linkage among type of businesses. However, the literatures show that there have been relatively few empirical attempts to analyze this issue. This study employs an input-output table for analyzing the industrial linkage including direct relationships and indirect relationships and develops industrial linkage index. Industrial linkage index is composed of five elements: intermediate input rate, intermediate demand rate, production inducement coefficient, value-added inducement coefficient, and labor inducement coefficient. In conclusion, industries with strong industrial linkage by type of business are suggested based on the industrial linkage index.
