This study aims to discover whether dance/movement therapy(DMT)has an effect on stress and heart rate variability of breast cancer patients. The subjects of the study were female patients (mean age: 46.4±9.0) diagnosed as breast cancer two years ago. Then they had a surgery and completed anticancer treatments in W University Hospital. 20 subjects who were able to understand the purposes of group DMT and agreed to it were selected and DMT was given to them three hours a session and once a year for 14 weeks. As a result of the study, it was discovered that in respect to stress and heart rate variability after the dance/movement therapy, significant changes occurred in stress, SDNN, and TP. In respect to the difference in heart rate variability between the subjects and control group, TP, SDNN, and HP which are related with chronic stress or diseases were significantly low. In conclusion, this study discovered that breast cancer patients had lower TP and SDNN due to treatment of the breast cancer than healthy adult women, and suggests that psychological therapy programs for breast cancer patients should be developed. This study has a meaning in that dance/movement therapy provided good directions to rehabilitation therapy of breast cancer patients.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of Satir group program which was applied to battered women. They have the serious mental problems, such as poor self-esteem and depression, by the psychological and physical violences of husband. The framework of this program was constructed the interaction therapy, therapy of family origin, human's inter therapy, and discovery of self. 9 participants were conducted at 8 sessions for 2 hours per week from 1st February 2009. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test was used to compared the pre and post effects of the program in same group. The pre and pro comparative analysis showed the slight enhancement in participants who were congruent in communication type, the statistically significant increasing changes about the self-esteem and a statistically significant decreasing changes about depression. This article suggests that it is necessary for development of measurable communication scale at Satir model.

This paper studied how the art therapy affects body-image and self-expression on a child with atopic dermatitis. A 11 years old girl with atopic dermatitis who had anxiety, depression, avoidance of personal relations was treated with the therapy intervention, consisted of 28 sessions, each session about fifty to sixty minutes, once to twice in a week. The research focused on the effects of an art therapy about improving body-image of a child with atopic dermatitis and changing of self-expression of a child. In this case, an art therapy produced a positive effect on body-image of child with atopic dermatitis. And art therapy has increased a positive physical satisfaction of the child with atopic dermatitis and decreased the negative physical one. Also an art therapy has decreased problematic behaviors and improved the child's artistic self-expression ability. The child with atopic dermatitis showed the improved physical changes in four areas; communications, emotional expressions, asking for help and uneasy behaviors after the art therapy. In conclusion, an art therapy is an effective way for a child with atopic dermatitis who need to be treated and controlled for their emotional side.

This study focuses on women 'the very old(75~89)' and aims to identify a self-esteem on social psychological factors. The data was collected and analyzed 40 women 'the very old' from senior sanatorium in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul from August 1st 2010 to September 30th. The question were composed of beauty concern, demographic characteristics, self-esteem. For this study, the data used frequency analysis, t-test and One-way ANOVA, x2-test, Duncan's multiple range test, K-means cluster analysis, Cronbach’s alpha, factor analysis, correlations with SPSS WIN 16.0 program. The results of the survey are summarized below: In the result of social-psychological variable by beauty concern factor, there were significant differences in nail factor, skin factor, hair factor, and makeup factor. Self-esteem was named as positive self-esteem and negative self-esteem by beauty concern group. Between self-esteem and beauty concern factors, showed skin and hair have positive effect to positive self-esteem and have negative effect to negative self-esteem. In conclusion, it is the most effect means that the cosmetic therapy to women 'the very old(75~89) lived in the various limited sanatorium lifts their self-esteem.

The purpose of this thesis is to study the reason why art plays a significant role in treating a mental problem. For this purpose, we intend to analyze the concept of aesthetic experience and analyze profoundly, based on it, what kind of therapeutic dimension art has. The essential characteristic of aesthetic experience is to find out and make up the world of meaning beyond the objective property of the object through a direct encounter with the object. The creative work with art works in arts psychotherapy facilitates the creative encounter with one's inside and enables one to express the inside world in art works. Based on this function of aesthetic experience, we can infer the therapeutic aspect as follows: First, art facilitates expression and communication. Second, art provides the space of play, the middle zone between reality and imagination to express reality liberally through imagination. Third, art helps one discover and form meaning. It is expected that this argument over the therapeutic function of aesthetic experience will provide a persuasive ground for the therapeutic power of art and greatly contribute to building up the academic identity of arts psychotherapy as well.

The purpose of this study is to verify if music therapy activity has effectively worked on changing communication, motility, and sociality of the children who have developmental disability. Individual activity was conducted twice a week and group activity was conducted once a week. The change on the children through out these activities were analyzed by carrying out KISE development scale, SMS(Social Maturity Scale), behavior and music diagnostic scale, pre-test, post-test, follow-up test by observing record to find out the effect of them. For subject of this study, 4 children who have developmental disability were selected among the children who committed music therapy to D institute located at Dae-jeon metropolitan city and then individual activity was conducted twice a week and group activity was conducted once a week. As for the method of study and measurement, after grasping developmental stage of the children by implementing KISE development scale, music proper for those children were created and used, and behavior change in an individual and a group activity was analyzed by using 5 rating scale of observation record on the basis of KISE development scale test. As for a change of sociality in a group activity, a change of children was analyzed by using pre-test and post-test of social maturity. As for the communicative expression upon early music activity, they showed more music expression on nondirective language but as sessions were proceeded, they showed a change in behavior by paying attention to linguistic instructions. In the area of motility, the coordination ability such as hands-feet, eyes-musical instrument and a gaze at therapist etc. among music activity were unnatural but they showed a change that coordination was getting balanced. Each child improved in the area of sociality as well, but they showed reduction or increase in group activity compared to individual activity due to their temperament characteristics. For the conclusion through the results of study, the improvement of communication for self-recognition and interaction was achieved in music activity. Also, physical activity responded through musical stimulus, in other words, the movement of motility naturally got balanced and harmonized. In the area of sociality, children also showed a difference in individual and group activity due to their personal temperament characteristics, but overall they showed improvement. As for creative music applied to subject of this study, individual creative music was not used considering different extent of weakness and difference of each child, but it showed meaningful improvement in communication, motility and social skill of the children. It is considered that more improvement will be achieved when using individualized creative music in accordance with characteristics of the children.

This paper presents a case study designed to improve the mental health of a divorced woman head of a household by applying Mandala art therapy based on psychological analysis. The client was a middle-aged woman head of a household aged 47. She was raising two children by herself after twotimes divorces. The program consisted of total 22 sessions of Mandala art therapy from May 6 to October 14, 2009. The research findings were as follows: First, the SCL-90-R results reveal that the client's GSI(Global Severity Index) was light in the pre-test, became a little bit worse in the middle-test, and improved to the normal level in the post-test. Her GSI maintained in the normal level in the follow-up test. While no big differences were observed in her PST(Positive Symptom Total), her PSDI(Positive Symptom Distress Index) went through changes from severe in the post-test, worse in the middle-test, to normal in the post-test and follow-up test. And secondly, the analysis results of her Mandala paintings and symbols show that she had more positive changes toward the end. Thanks to the individuation process during the program, she experienced her true self. The results prove that Mandala art therapy based on psychological analysis has positive effects on improving the mental health of a divorced woman head of a household.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of group art therapy through LMT on the self esteem of schizophrenic inpatients. A total of 10 schizophrenic inpatients participated in this study. The experiment period was from January to April, 2009, twice a week, and 20 times in all. Each experiment lasted 70 minutes. The self-esteem tests were administered before and after the program to see if there was any change in the degree of the inpatients' self-esteem. The landscape montage technique (LMT) were also utilized four times, every 3 weeks. The research data were analyzed in order to see what effect this group art therapy gives to schizophrenic inpatients. The results of this study are as follows: First, the self-esteem points increased after the therapy. Second, the LMT showed that the experimental group had positive changes in the following analysis items: viewpoint, the relationship between river and road, unity, the number of items, space organization, the usage of realistic colors, finishing touch of colors, expression of distance and space, place of self image in landscape, and behavior change of self image in landscape. This study found that the group art therapy for schizophrenic inpatients helped improve the self esteem of the inpatients.
예술계 미술전공 여고생들의 정신건강과 동적학교생활화(KSD) 반응특성의 관계

The aim of this study is to elucidate the relationship between adolescents’ mental health and response characteristics of KSD (Kinetic School Drawing) and to determine the effectiveness of KSD in analysing the status of mental health of female arts highschool students. The study objects are 227 first- and second-grade highschool girls majoring in art at B arts highschool located in city A. As research instruments, SCL-90-R (Symptom Checklist-9 0-Revision) and KSD interpreted by Andrews and Janzen’s(1988) Objective Scoring Method were employed. For data analysis, t-test, one-way Anova, scheffe-test, and Pearson's Correlation analysis were performed. The following results were obtained from this study. First, the SCL-90-R has presented that the mean value of index for Obsessive-Compulsive showed 1.05 with the highest score. In objects above T70s, 20 (8.8 %) of objects showed Hostility with the highest number. Second, the relationship between mental health and response characteristics of KSD of female arts highschool students shows that Somatization is positively correlated with Defensiveness. Obsessive-Compulsive is positively correlated with Isolation/ Rejection, Defensiveness, Aggression and School problems. Interpersonal Sensitivity and Hostility are positively correlated with Isolation/Rejection, Anxiety/Conflict, Defensiveness, Aggression and School problems. Depression is positively correlated with Isolation/Rejection, Defensiveness, Anxiety/Confli ct and School problems. Anxiety, Phobic Anxiety and Paranoid Ideation are positively correlated with Isolation/Rejection and Defensiveness. Psychoticism is positively correlated with Isolation/Rejection, Defensiveness and School problems. In contrast, all above 9 measures are negatively correlated with Support/Acceptance. Lastly, the analysis on the differences in the status of mental health of female arts highschool students according to the response characteristics of KSD demonstrated that Obsessive-Compulsive, Depression, Hostility, Paranoid Ideation and Psychoticism were significantly different depending on the activity of both self and peer, while only Psychoticism was significantly different depending on the activity of teacher. Taken together, these results have shown that there are relations between SCL-90-R of objective test and KSD of projective test, suggesting that SCL-90-R and KSD can be used to evaluate mental health of adolescents.

The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of the group art therapy program with collage activity on the job satisfaction of the heads or directors of child care institutions, in the way that improving the level of job satisfaction for the directors will in return enhance the quality of education in child care centers. Study subjects are twenty six directors of the child care facilities located in Pyeongtaek city of Gyeonggi province who were told about the study beforehand. The subjects were divided into the experimental group of thirteen and the control group of the other thirteen out of all twenty six participants. The collage group art therapy consists of a total of 10 sessions, twice a week, and each session lasting 90 minutes. To verify the effects of the therapy program, pretest and posttest of both job satisfaction test and KSD before and after the program. The comparison of pretest and posttest scores are analyzed by SPSS Window 12.0 in terms of paired t-test for the degree of significance of the program. The agreement test (Cronbach's alpha as interrater reliability) of two raters on pretest and posttest of KSD was adopted to avoid the rater error, then used as the data for assessment. Consequently, it can be said that group art therapy with collage is effective in enhancing the job satisfaction level of the heads of child care facilities.
