The purpose of this study is to reveal that Aldo van Eyck’s concept on Amsterdam playgrounds is focused on humanist values, which were critical themes of postwar modern architecture. He was committed to replacing the mechanistic doctrines of the postwar reconstruction with a humanist architecture, which to him meant an architecture of community. So I trace the emergence of his ideas in his relatively ignored but seminal projects, the playgrounds of Amsterdam. In conclusion, Aldo van Eyck's humanistic values of Amsterdam playgrounds are acquired by creative and voluntary use, that is to say, open function, and both polycentric and decentric composition. His over seven hundreds playgrounds in postwar Amsterdam turn individual urban voids into urban community places and they must become parts of the city's everyday fabric.

The purpose of this treatise is to consider how the relation between function and form has been changed according to the shift of architectural trends after late 19th century and to understand the features which are present in many recently completed or designed works. The scope of this research begins with analysing the thinking on function which appeared pre-20th century. After that analysis for what purpose, how an when the concept of Functionalism has been emerged is considered through the statements of architectural theorists and practicing architects. 20th century Functionalism pervaded throughout all over the civilized areas in the first half of that century. But around 1960s the notions of Venturi's 'decorated shed' and Jencks' 'architecture as communication' began to attack the weak side of Functionalism. Thus the slogan 'Form follows Function' did not have previous powerful position any longer. Then new dictums such as 'Form follows Fiasco', 'Form follows previous form, not function' has emerged and influenced architectural fields. Nowadays form and function hardly has any prescriptive relation.

This competition of 'International Conference Hall' in 1937 is symbolically important among architecture contests under the Fascist government. 'Contents' are newly analyzed at the 'form' implied by 'the competition of International Conference Hall' by analysis of the sketch of 'International Conference Hall' and the 1st and the 2nd plans. By way of interpreting monumentality of Terragni who was a representative rationalist architect of Italy and investigating comprehensively the process of space formalization, a conclusion was acquired as follows; 1. The reasonable structure of plane and space of 'International Conference Hall' expresses a modern and functional monumental building, by means of maximizing accessibility to the front way, and is judged as developing the previous plan, 'The project B of the fascist commemoration building(1934)' 2. The intuition that Terragni tried to fill the 'contents' of architecture in the form of 'box' is developed into the way of horizontal parallel arrangement from the way of piling arrangement of the perpendicular 'conference hall' of 'The project B of the Fascist commemoration building' 3. In the process of space formalization of 'International Conference Hall', Terragni expresses the 'existence' in the form of 'harmony box' by the architectural experience and the monumentality of the ancient roman architecture as 'contents'.

The contents of this study is about ideal architecture with the system of the circular plan and studied this symbolic principles of planning or thought in the circular plan architecture It is also proposed that the symbol of the architecture is different from the general symbols in other fields. This study is aiming at analyzing characteristics that are expressed according to Ando's architectural composition and coping method in nature. Especially, there are many cases of expressing by generalizing nature in Ando's architecture with a vocabulary as saying of being emotional or abstract. It will deeply examine even about by which factors these expression characteristics come to have such features. Ahead of entering the full-scale analysis, it progressed consideration on his recognition of architecture and nature, and on its background. Through this, it could examine characteristics such as the geometry, the use of the limited materials, and the borrowing of natural factor, as the characteristics of forming Ando's architecture. Based on these characteristics, first, it grasped the phases of coping with nature in the aspect of form, space, and material, which comprise Ando's architecture. Second, the expression characteristics in nature, which are shown through coping with nature, were examined. As a result, nature in Ando's architecture showed tendency of intuitiveness in which its concept comes to be revealed as a shape through deliberate restriction such as the niche space and the establishment in boundary. The shape in nature, which was revealed in this way, tends to be abstracted in comparison with material or geometrical outline, which are his architectural features. Also, this abstracted nature is showing characteristic of being united with a human being by becoming spatial sensation under the influence of similarity among fundamental attributes that are contained in the coping factors like geometry and candor in material that Ando uses.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the change of the apartment units by comparing the unit plans after legalization of balcony extension with those before the legalization. The major characteristics of the change are analyzed in terms of types of form and size and spatial composition of housing units. As a result, it was found that the length and the width of the unit has been changed from a square into a rectangular form. And the number of front bays of the unit has increased due to the tendency of spatial extension and preferences for facing to the south. In addition, the balcony area has been widened to take advantages of utilizing the balcony area extension, and the prolonged width of the unit has contributed to the change of the spatial plan of the unit. Accordingly, these changes have led to the separation of the inner space and spatial change, and the design principles for relatively bigger size of units have been applied to the mid-size unit plan too.

New library building construction and the remodeling of old one is growing tendency is nation-wide recently. The purpose of this study is to identify factors for library space program thought user needs assessments in order to apply a library construction Research method used was a questionnaire and subjects ware residents and library users lived in Jeon-ju. The result show that library use behavior, age, and user companions are identified as factors to influence to both functional space ratio and functional space arrangement. Reading in libraries is major activity and many subjects went to library with family so that family space in needed. Space for variable ages, also, is needed because of different needs based upon ages.

That was caused by high-density educational facilities as built apartment housing complex through Housing Redevelopment and Residential Land Development project and caused by low-density educational facilities as reduced children of school age through low-parturition. The traditional Yin and Yang selection method is a nature-friendly selection method that reads the conditions of nature through the Chi-Gi(earthen energy) of the underground as well as the scenery of mountains and streams. Chi-Gi used for the selection method has been perceived as being unscientific as it merely rests at the level of a metaphysical, mystic ideology rather than at that of scientific proof, principle, or objective interpretation that may be quantified. However, various fields including science have shown an interest in identifying the actuality of Gi(energy). This study identified the actuality of Chi-Gi that exists in a constructional space out of the intention to objectify the traditional selection method in order to make it a contemporary constructional design method against this backdrop. As regards approach methods, the study conducted an empirical research of 30 Korean general hospitals by using skilled earthen energy surveyors. As a result, the study was able to discover that Chi-Gi has a physical existence with a certain shape and measurement, and to prepare the map of Chi-Gi.

It is common in the nation that airport development has been mainly led by the government, for which the almost funds to develop an airport have been born by the government. It may be also deemed that an airport is hardly designed in consideration of economy and efficiency. To have an airport economically and efficiently designed and be internationally competitive, it is more important to secure the quality of designing. In turn, securing the quality is followed by estimating the size of airport passenger terminal, which is the core facility of airport, based on the reasonable standards. Although the estimation of sizing an airport passenger terminal has been referred in home and overseas standards and data, such standards fail to reflect the characteristics of region or nation to construct an airport. For this, the study is designed to provide the fundamental data of the estimation of sizing an airport passenger terminal, which is applicable in planning an airport in the future, by comparing and analyzing various standards, especially in terms of the efficient utility of planning an airport.

The importance of the direction for health education in school is growing day by day as the society changes. The object of this study is to protect and improve the health of students and school personnel, and provide the data for construction needed to plan for a health room convenient for students by researching and analysing the cases of the health room in the elementary schools of Cheongju. In order study the data needed for the constructing of an elementary school health room, the researcher, who classified the schools into a large, a middle, and a small sized school, selected 27 schools out of 48 elementary schools with a health teacher in Cheongju, including three schools with 1,500 students or above, eleven schools with 1,000 students or above, and thirteen schools with 500 students or above. The research method was to visit all the 27 elementary school health room, surveying the health teachers, and analysed the spatial composition, the arrangement, the location and the scale, whether the necessary space is secured or not, and the students' using condition of each school health room. Based on the background and the research, when a waiting space of health room, a health room, and a health training room are separately secured, which is ideal, the site plan and the floor plan for them should desirably look as follows: a waiting room(or space) 0.5 + a health room 1.0 + a health training room 1.0. When a health room contains a health training room, it should look as follows: waiting room(or space) / health room 1.0 + a health training room 1.0. When it is impossible to secure a separate small-sized health training room, it should look as follows : a health room + a health training room 1.0. It is desirable that the expansion and improvement should take the given condition of each school into account.

Recently growing interest in public concept is prominent along with a private․individual concept which had been main concern of the design in an previous industrialized society. Public concept in civil engineering and architecture had already been utilized through a beauty deliberation or scenic beauty deliberation system. However, these systems are restricted to an object such as architectures, visual designs, and artworks by the authorities and they are different from the direction pursued in the public design these days . Public design starts from the civil points of view in construction of public properties and facilities and focuses on aggressive explanation and guideline rather than limitation. Nowadays the public design planning is on progress under the government's support starting in Seoul city, followed by other local governments and government research centers. The paper has compared the contents and the directions of the researches on the public design done by wide-unit local government and basic-unit local government in order to clarify the role of each unit local government and reduce the redundant work.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlative concept according to the speculative market and feasibility study in apartment project. Adequate shelter and services are a basic human right which places an obligation on governments to ensure their attainment by all people. All citizens should have access to affordable adequate housing. Apartments prices and rents on basic dwelling should be affordable levels for the majority of the population, and households should not have to spend an excessive proportion of their income on housing. Now in Korea, apartments prices of Seoul(MPIR=9.69) is discouraging most of citizens to live with their own baby. Median Price to Income Ratio(MPIR) are Gyeonggi 6.15, Incheon 5.40, Pusan 3.57, Gwangju 2.22, Chonnam 1.68. The conceptual frame to find right way for solving problem is suggested. By this framework, we concluded that provision of housing for rent is only way to escape from disaster caused by speculation in the Metropolitan area. We should establish the comprehensive plan of national land planning and local housing market planning.

Due to the rising problems pertaining to number of demand of elderly welfare facilities, such as an aging society, welfare including regional concentration, a policy is introduced of which encouraging the transformation of existing facilities to care facilities. This causes negligent of the basic principles-protection, welfare service, care-of the institutionalized elderly. The purpose of this study is to seek measures and improve the reality where facilities that have a little concern about systematic aspect are being created. The subject of the study is Gwangju, Jeonnam region, showing the highest rate of age population in Korea however, the small care facilities that have less than 10 people capacity were not included in the survey. The classification of the study detail is based on cases of laws and regulations of advanced countries with aging societies, which provide detail guidelines and spaces for analysis that are likely to be suggested as detailed standards, and they are living rooms, dining room, bathrooms, toilets, program facility, physical therapy station, nurse station and halls. Based on case analysis, living room demonstrat es below standard to local regulations, while differences have shown between facilities from halls, bathrooms and toilets, which are used directly by the elderly people, as there is no detailed standard. The study emphasizes the necessity to prepare detailed standards through the cases that have no regard for barrier free.

This paper is aimed to clarify the strengthening and repair techniques of a wooden roof truss focused on modern architectural properties in Korea. These trusses are largely classified with western king and queen post roof trusses, and they are composed with principal rafter, tie beam, strut, king post, hanging post, plate and so on. The strengthening and repair techniques are classified with the element to element and deconstruction method. The element to element method has 3 types : replacement of timber, strengthening with additional timber and strengthening by metal straps, ties or plate. And the deconstruction method has 2 types : partial and complete removal of trusses. The former element to element method of strengthening and repair techniques is superior to any others in preserving the value of modern architectural properties.

This study is focused on the investigation of the continuous actual condition and reuse of modern architectural properties applying to the current architectural planning. First of all, the check-list of the architectural planning is made and used for this research. We intend to know the differences and functional changes of elementary school building, bank branch, and hospital by check-list. As a result 1) The problem for continuous use of elementary school is as part of building maintenance than the difference of the architectural planning. 2) We could find the change in the ceiling height of bank branch, and set these into 3 types, ond and half story, 2 floors, 1 floor. 3) Modern hospital does not satisfy in the current architectural planning. Because dimension of inpatient wards is 6.37~10.47m2 per bed, size of window is 0.14~0.36m2 in the floor area, corridor width is 2.2m and ceiling height 2.45m. The spatial characters of the modern architectural properties are appeared differently as each situation. We can understand that it is difficult to apply current architectural planning to the modern architectural properties. To solve these problems, we should understand how to be planned the modern architectural properties, and present new architectural planning considered to continuous actual condition and reuse.

Residential space, a one social unit, includes human environment like culture, economy, life. Since 1990s, there's been a huge change in residential space with a lot of spread of apartment and change from a sitting-on-the-floor meal to a stand-up meal in rural houses. Thus we'd like to investigate about rural residential space in this study with a standard farm-house design that is emphasized in scientific and politic point after 1990s. Since 1990s, 6 standard house design were provided (except 1994), 8 size - 20 types in September 1995, 1 size - 8 types in 1998, 2 size - 4 types in 2000, 2 size - 4 types in 2001, 3 size - 6 types in 2004, total 18 size -50 types design were supplied by size from 40㎡ to 145㎡. Analyze result says standard house design proposition under even condition did not reflect urban and other rural life and compel living condition. In other word, standard house design that can be easily changed by nature condition and living condition that reflects urban and other rural living condition is the best plan to promote practicality and supply.

The purposes of this study are to find out the current status and features of rural Hanoks in Jeonnam, and to explore users' level of satisfaction and needs of improvement about those Hanoks. Primary findings are as follows: 1) The area of rural Hanoks in Jeonnam is generally 25-33pyong and the construction cost per pyong of those Hanoks is surveyed 4,000,000-4,490,000won(35.9%), 3,500,000-3,990,000won(20.5%) and 4,500,000-4,990,000won(20.5%). 2) The plan types are surveyed ‘ㅡ’ type(61.5%) and ‘ㄱ’ type(38.5%). Usually those Hanoks have three bedrooms, one livingroom, one diningroom, two bathrooms, one utility room. 3) The structure of those Hanoks is surveyed Korean traditional wood structure and the construction method of those Hanoks is usually earth brick wall. 4) The finish of outer wall is surveyed lime plaster(38.5%), earth plaster(19.2%), earth brick laying(17.9%), cement plaster(9.0%), lime plaster+earth plaster(7.7%), burnt brick laying(5.1%), and painting on gypsum board(2.6%). The finish of inner wall is usually wall paper. The finish material of bedroom floor is generally vinyl flooring and that of livingroom floor is wood flooring. 5) Users' satisfaction about those Hanoks is investigated high level. Especially, the satisfaction degrees about shape and feeling of Hanok are observed very highly. But the satisfaction degree about insulation efficiency during winter is low. 6) This study observed needs of improvement about construction status of structure and wall, the cost and time of construction. Especially, the need degrees of improvement about prevention of wood structure crack and reduction of construction cost are observed highly.

This thesis researches on the restoration of the service buildings which were built in 1800 for the King Jeong-Jo's tomb called to be "Kun-Reung". However the site of "Kun-Reung" was not good for King's tomb, as well as a tomb of Queen Hyo-wui who was the first wife of King Jeong-Jo should be built in 1821. Therefore the site of "Kun-Reung" was moved into another site, and the couple were buried together for convenience. At that time, the service buildings that were built on the first site of "Kun-Reung" were moved too. Recently, the building's arrangements and forms were clearly found through an excavation. So this thesis has an object that provide basic informations for restoration of a King's tomb system by comparative studying with the sources of excavation and old documents.

This study analyzes current status of ingredient of urban design by evaluating the requirements of urban design in Daegu metropolitan city. For this purpose, questionnaire survey was conducted. The main findings are follows. First, people evaluate urban landscape focusing on regional symbol, activity concentration, amenity, and place usage. therefore, planning and development should emphasize the physical identity for positive urban images. Second, the image of Daegu city is compose of the CBD (Dongseung-ro) with foot traffic concentration, Shincheon with culture and rest, Suseong pond with water front, Daegu Tower, symbolic building and historical nature. Third, Daegu needs improvement of street color, design of building front, size of sign board in terms of design, and more places to stay. The purpose of this study that is the pilot study to prevent endotoxin shock and nosocomial infection is to offer basic data on species and concentrations of airborne microbes in hospitals. Dental office care of indoor air pollution is the most important part. Most outdoor workers such as the carpenter, the frame worker, the concrete finisher, the steel fixer, the electrician, the plumber are suffered from the heat stress at the building construction site in summer. For the reduction of their heat stress, some researchers and manufactures provide them with the VV(Ventilation Vest with net cloth) but the VV had a shortcoming such as the permeation of sun radiation. This research developed a PCV(Passive Cooling Vest) sample that attached the sun reflection louver on the existed VV, for more reduction of their heat stress. The PCV have two functions. One is the sun radiation reflection through the horizontal narrow reflection louver(L type aluminum film, dimension is 5×5㎜, installation pitch is 10㎜, reflectance is 0.9). The other is the ventilation through the net cloth. Also, this research measured MST(Mean Skin Temperature) and thermal environment parameters, and it asked TSV(Thermal Sensation Vote 7scale) and DISC(Thermal Discomfort 11scale) for the 4 voluntary subjects who are each subject wearing PCV, VV, TTV(Traditional Textile Vest) in due sequence. Factors are measured in the experiment room where the controlled conditions were the radiation 600(W/㎡), DBT 29(℃), air velocity 2.0(m/sec). TSVs and DISCs of subjects when wearing PCV were approximately 1~2 lower than when wearing VV or TTV. MST of subjects when wearing PCV were approximately 1.2℃ lower than when wearing VV or TTV. In conclusion, the PCV in this research can support more reduction of heat stress for the outdoor workers at building construction site in summer.

Modern people are interested in improvement of Indoor Environmental Quality(IEQ) because the people stay for a long time over 80% of the day in the indoor. In recent year, many people use the Indoor Plant(IP) for the improvement of IEQ in work place and dwelling and some researchers conduct experiment on the reduction of CO2 with the IP in chamber test. But the experiments are conducted under illuminance condition approximately 1,500~3,000lx. However, the actual average condition of illuminance in the office was approximately 400~800lux. The Purpose of this research is support that the people choose the effective plant for the improvement of IEQ in the office through the experiment on the reduction of CO2 with the IP in the actual illuminance condition of office. The procedure of this experiment is following 1) construct the experiment system which the IAQ measuring instrument set and the glazing small chamber(0.45m×0.45m×0.45m) 2) put the subject plants in the chamber 3) fill a chamber with the CO2 as 1,000~1,200ppm 4) measure the concentration of CO2 during 9 hour(09:00~18:00). In conclusion, the CO2 reduction[ppm/1000㎠·9h] of IPs Weeping fig 1172.58, Peace lily 1050.74, Areca palm 780.74, English ivy 746.21, Golden pothos 461.64, Japanese fatsia 233.08 on the daylighting and artificial lighting 300lx, and Weeping fig 1392.22, English ivy 875.61, Peace lily 612.88, Areca palm 594.12, Japanese fatsia 486.44, Golden pothos 318.23 on the artificial lighting 1000lx.

Recently, the sympathy for the sustainable development is being formed all over the world, and as for Korea, as it is prospected that the burden for the obligation to reduce the greenhouse gases will be weighted during the 2nd public commitment period (2013-2017) as per Climate Change Convention, it is urgent to prepare the actual countermeasure for the energy saving in this relation. Meanwhile, the remodeling behavior of the apartment, which occupies most of the domestic residential types, has been formed up to expansion of the indoor space through remodeling of the balcony space, and this has occurred the increase of the serious cooling/heating energy load. For this reason, this study will closely examine the problem that such remodeling behavior of the balcony space brings about, and review the application of the double-skin that is recently discussed as the major issue for reduction of the energy load.

As the market of steel building is increasing by the high quality, high speed construction and high strength then the ordinary construction materials, the possible risk of progressive collapse of steel building at the fire condition is going up gradually for the more increased combustible materials. The fire resistance of steel building has been evaluated by fire tests, but recently the performance based fire engineering make it easy to evaluate that of steel building using not only various engineering techniques but also fire science. The fire resistance of structural elements adopted at the steel building can be evaluated by the comparison between limit temperature that is at which the structural failure occurred according to high temperature of the structural element and maximum surface temperature of structural element by the application of heat transfer analysis. To establish the limit temperature for the structural steel(SS 400) and structural marine(SM 490) the tensile tests at high temperature were conducted and the comparison among the limit temperature references from abroad and the results from full-scale fire test of H-section column having 4 types loadings at the aspect of load ratio. At this paper, the limit temperature equations from two kinds of steel specimens are very similar with that of abroad and the load ratio from coupon tests can be applied to real column element at the range of below 0.5. For more reliability, the comparison between the limit temperature got the limit state design and allowable working stress design and then the values from beam is needed.

In recent years, fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) materials in form such as pultruded plates and fabrics have been attractive for use as strengthening materials for reinforced concrete members. Due to premature debonding of FRP strengthening materials accompanied by sudden and brittle failures, the field application of FRP strengthening material has been reduced. Newly Glass fiber-Steel plate composite Plate as a strengthening material has been developed. The thin steel plate in Glass fiber-Steel plate composite Plate makes usage of the anchoring system possible, which could delay or prevent the premature debonding failure. The beams strengthened with Glass fiber-Steel plate composite Plate showed greater strength as well as ductility than those strengthened with any other strengthening materials commercially available. In order to examine the effects of Glass fiber-Steel plate composite Plate on shear capacity of strengthened beam, systematic experimental investigations were performed for 3 control and 60 strengthened beams. The experimental results showed that shear capacity of strengthened beams with Glass fiber-Steel plate composite Plate considerably increased in shear capacity compared with the control ones.
