Daegeon Theological Seminary opened in Ssangchon-dong, Gwangju in 1961 and has become the predecessor of Gwangju Catholic University today. Prior to the school's relocation to Naju in 1998, the seminary system of priestly education was conducted, but it is now used as the Catholic Gwangju Archdiocese Office. Daegun Seminary was designated as a registered cultural property in 2017 and 2018 in recognition of its unique school composition method and historical value that cannot be seen in other schools. Therefore, this study attempted to understand the history of the Catholic Gwangju Archdiocese, the architectural characteristics and the process of change in the main building, Henry Hall, Brady Hall, and Restaurant-dong.

In this study, investigated whether the district unit plan is actually effective in the area of 130 Dongsan-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu Metropolitan City, in a situation where the value of historical and cultural resources is newly recognized and interest in Hanok. The district unit planning system is a public system that promotes the function and efficiency of land use and secures a favorable environment was found to be the most efficient system having both regulatory and inductive property. In addition, in order to confirm the effectiveness of the district unit plan, it was examined in terms of planning process, physical environment improvement, and institutional operation. Therefore, even if the district unit planning system is an efficient and appropriate system for the preservation of Hanok, it was confirmed that the system is not effective due to the special property of the target area.
Ambivalence and Conflicting Notions in Japanese House Architecture

Japanese architects have long used house architecture to explore radical ideas, producing some of the most influential works that shaped the trajectory of Japanese architecture. Examining the houses designed by some of Japan’s most celebrated architects in the past decades, a particular architectural inclination can be observed that suggests a change in how the architects see the home and its relationship with the city. They frequently explore the concept of pervious borders, integration of interstitial territory, and colonization of alleys as an extension of domestic space. The resulting architecture extends the domesticity out, blurring the boundary between private living and urban surroundings. Consequentially, such an approach redefines the traditional notion of home as a space not entirely in the private domain. It also reveals the architects’ ambivalence between a desire for an individual lifestyle and collective urban living. It is an inherently conflicting notion. This study examines the factors that may have shaped such an approach, the strategies behind the works, and its significance.

This paper aims to investigate the concept of spatial continuity within limit prisms, where columns support the load, enabling the walls to attain autonomy, in a proactive sense rather than the conventional notion of autonomous meaning. The research methodology follows a syllabus based on a design studio, offering guidance, analysis, and outcomes for each weekly theme, ultimately leading to conclusions. 1)The study delves into the roles, types, and uses of elements composing the given prism. 2)Through an analysis of spatial expandability, the paper explores how a type that ensures volumetric expandability while satisfying sectional diagonal expandability and planar diagonal cross-expandability can embody continuity and fluidity in the spatial continuum. 3)The paper examines the methodology and key considerations for free plan composition, as well as the steps to be followed, by closely examining the overall process of Henri Ciriani's 'L'espace 30x30 studio.'

With abundant water supply from the Nakdong river and Banbyeon stream, the habitation in the east area of Andong began from the early days of Joseon dynasty. Yet being located near the Taebaek Mountains left little farmland, leading the east area of Andong to have the least amount of Ddeulzip in Andong, 37. The occurrence progress of Ddeulzip is closely associated to the Study Relationship and the Marriage Relationship between clans. This progress can be categorized into three periods, the early period(14~15C), the middle period(16~17C), and the late period(19~20C). In the early period, there were only three Ddeulzip constructed, such as Naeap Head House and Geumyeokdang, which can be categorized in the large scale Ddeulzip. In the middle period, when many different clans settling into the area, total of 16 Ddeulzip was constructed in various sizes, from medium to small. With clans’ ramifications and construction continuing, 17 Ddeulzip was built in the late period, rather showing modern types of Ddeulzip. Therefore, the east area of Andong can be seen as where the culture of Ddeulzip was preserved the longest out of the Andong area.

The purpose of this study is to analyze through comparing learning Engagement in a typical university classroom between a type of division desk layout and U-shaped desk layout using experimental study. First, ‘desk layout’ is the biggest impact of the remodeling elements on the learning space. Second, Study 1(same group, different classroom) is analyzed that U-shaped desk layout is a method that can improve the learning attitude of all students. The purpose of this study is to present differences of priority with rank in core evaluation index for overall satisfaction on neighborhood facilities between Administrative district(Gu). To this end, this study conducted Post Occupancy Evaluation(POE) and Importance-Performance Analysis(IPA), adding 600 respdondents with 217 neighborhood facilities(total 1,001 respondents and 558 buildings). The Conclusion is as follows; First, in an analysis targeting all respondents, number of roads, vehicle-pedestrian separation(location)/frontality(site plan)/size(appearance)/interior units(unit configuration)/connectivity(environment) were derived as area of “concentrate here.” The top 5 items in rank were circulation, zoning, compartment planning, atmosphere, and landscape. Second, there are significant differences in the index included in the "concentrate here" and ranking of items at the district(gu) level. Finally, this suggests that the index that must be considered in the design of neighborhood facilities varies by district, depending on the satisfaction level, and that the quantitative/qualitative aspects of these differences can be confirmed with further researches on context components. Despite the limitations, this study would be meaningful in that it embodies the potentials in terms of POE with real-time visualization of analysis in on-line flatform.

In this study, specimens, designed by reinforced concrete frame using the advanced seismic frame retrofitting system, were constructed and tested to improve the seismic performance of reinforced concrete buildings subjected to earthquake-tpye loadings, Six-story existing reinforced concrete buildings, applying the advanced frame retrofitting system were carried out to evaluate the seismic performance based on performance design. In the evaluation of seismic performance of the existing reinforced concrete buildings using the advanced frame retrofitting system by the performance based design, as a result of nonlinear static analysis of reinforced concrete structures, the story drift angle in the x- direction showed up to 14% reduction when applying the advanced seismic retrofitting system(RFKB-F, RFSR-G) compared to before reinforcement.

This study aims to identify the characteristics of neighborhoods where the mental health of the elderly is collectively vulnerable, and to provide implications for the creation of future age-friendly cities. Unlike many existing studies that consider the walking area in analyzing the impact of the urban environment on the physical and mental health of the elderly, this study aims to consider the actual range of daily life of the elderly. For the analysis, this study utilized the Health Interview Survey of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Home Health Care Project. In this case, the average score of each responding elderly person was derived for each town and village, which are the basic administrative regions of Korea, and areas with a score of 5 or more were selected for analysis. Then, we analyzed the impact of local characteristics on the daily activity level and mental health of the elderly using a structural equation model. As a result, we found that the public transportation environment, medical environment, and shopping environment encourage the daily activities of the elderly and support their mental health.

Architect Le Corbusier conceived the standard line, the basis for logical and rational architectural composition, standardization, and standardization, from a geometric proportional system that becomes an architectural order and norm, and used it as a design strategy to realize the composition principle of modern architecture. This study classifies the La Roche-Jeanneret housing plan to which Le Corbusier's concept of the standard line is applied from a process perspective and analyzes it around the plane to study the specific composition and meaning of the standard line inside and outside. As a result of the study, the standard line type is a square or similar square of substantial and specific dimensions. In addition, it responds by maintaining organic composition adjustments and types such as functional dimensions, arrangement, expansion, and subdivision according to changes in external and internal planning conditions such as the number of land and households, properties of shape and space, connection process and importance. The flexibility, variability, and persistence of such composition showed that the standard line was not a formal tool for architectural composition, but a result of ideas and a design strategy to realize the composition concept.

The purpose of this study is to find out effect of compressive strength according to mixing rate of rice husk powder extraction from digestion into cementless concrete and synergy through chemical composition analysis. The binders of cementless concrete were fly ash, ground granulated blast furnace slag and rice husk powder produced to binary and ternary concrete. In order to examine the physical properties of cementless concrete according to the mixing rate of rice husk powder, the slump test, compressive strength were tested. And to figure out synergy effect with rice husk powder and other binders, SEM and EDS analysis was performed. As a result of the experiment, the slump increased as the mixing rate of rice husk powder increased in the binary concrete, and the slump increased as the mixing rate of fly ash increased in the ternary concrete. When rice husk powder was mixed, the initial compressive strength was higher than that of ordinary portland cement, and the higher the content of ground granulated blast furnace slag, the higher the compressive strength on the 28th. As a result of SEM and EDS analysis, it was confirmed that when rice husk powder was mixed, the Si/Al ratio was high and the compressive strength was improved.

This study aims to propose an appropriate statistical model for predicting the energy consumption of apartment buildings, focusing on the summer season, which has recently been experiencing increasingly poor thermal comfort and prolonged duration. To achieve this, we utilized hourly energy consumption data measured by BEMS(Building Energy Management Systems) from June to October 2023 in an apartment complex in Uijeongbu to develop a time series model. In this study, ARIMA(AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average Model), SARIMA(Seasonal ARIMA), and SARIMAX(Seasonal ARIMA with eXogenous factors) models were examined, and the SARIMA(1,1,7) × (1,1,2)24 model was found to be the most effective. This model displayed a seasonal cycle somewhat different from previous studies and also showed a slightly different relationship between temperature and energy consumption in apartment buildings. These findings suggest the need for further research using a large dataset based on this study. The results of this research are expected to contribute as a foundational study in researching the balance between real-time energy consumption and renewable energy production during the summer season.

Five reinforced concrete frame using new retrofitting system, which is designed by the conventional method, retrofitting of steel plate in R/C frame, retrofitting of carbon fiber sheet(2fly) in R/C column, retrofitting of carbon fiber Plate in R/C column, and retrofitting of ALC panel were tested under earthquake loadings, Experimental programs were carried out to evaluate and improve the seismic performance of such test specimens, such as the hysteretic behavior, the maximum horizontal strength, energy dissipation capacity, and crack propagation etc. under load reversals. All the specimens were modeled in one-third scale size. Based on the test results reported in this study, the following conclusions can be made. The maximum load-carrying capacity of specimens(RFSP, RFCS2, RFCP, RFAR) designed by the new retrofitting system for standard specimen(SRF) were increased 1.04~1.46 times in comparison with the standard specimen(SRF). Energy dissipation capacity of specimens designed by the improving of seismic performance were increased 1.28~1.62 times in comparison with the standard specimen(SRF).

Currently, the progressive use of urban underground space to solve various urban problems is gradually expanding. The development of large-depth transport infrastructure, supported by recent advances in excavation technology, is accelerating this trend. The undergrounde large-scale transportation facility can solve the complex traffic situation in urban centres, and the distribution of overcrowded urban space and floating population underground can preserve a comfortable surface environment. At the same time, new development space can be created in the existing urban space, and highly efficient compressed urban development can be achieved by making advanced use of land and reducing compensation costs. Overseas, urban underground space utilisation projects have been carried out in various fields in specific ways since the mid-1900s. In recent years, Asian countries that lack available land have been actively promoting plans to utilise underground space. For planned and efficient development, laws on underground space development are being enacted and appropriate masterplans are being prepared to create conditions for underground space development. This review examines the underground space projects and policies underway in Asian countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and China, as well as in North America and Europe, and explores how to create large-depth underground space development. It also provides a comparative analysis of domestic policies and research on large deep underground space development and actual planning cases to contribute to the establishment of optimal planning directions for the creation of future underground urban spaces.

In this study, we investigated the impact of SPD panel-equipped residential building on performance and thermal comfort. Specifically, we analyzed the effects on heating performance and thermal comfort when controlling solar heat gain and loss through the application of SPD panels. Simulation results confirmed that SPD panels had a positive influence on heating performance and thermal comfort. From a thermal comfort perspective, it was found to contribute to creating a consistent indoor environment, especially during short periods of potential overheating in winter. Additionally, we observed that the energy input when using SPD panels was lower than the increase in heating energy demand when not using SPD panels. This highlights the economic benefits of actively utilizing SPD panels during the winter season.
