The Standard Time method has often been applied for measuring work lead times in a manual assembly line. These work lead-times are grouped together to make workstations in the assembly line balanced. Although the work stations are balanced in a planning stage, the assembly line in an implementation stage is usually suffered from the unexpected unbalance between the work stations. This is caused by different skills among workers on the assembly line. The purpose of this research is to improve the balance of assembly line and increase the production output. An electronic company with manual assembly lines that has suffered serious line balancing problems has been chosen for this research. In this case study, ARENA is used as a simulation tool to compare and evaluate the current manual assembly line with two alternative plans. The first alternative plan was to focus on the line balancing using Standard Time. The second one was to focus on line balancing based not only on Standard Time but also on the individual worker's skill. Although the current system has not yet solved the line balancing problems, it has been used for a long time by a field manager as a trial and error method. Simulation results show that the second alternative plan is superior to the other two lines in terms of low work-in-process level and high production output. In addition, the results demonstrate that the worker's skill is one of the factors that have significant effect on grouping work stations in manual assembly lines.

The precision measurement technology is the infrastructure of industry technology and thus it is the critical element in the quality and hi-tech products. Nevertheless, the precision measurement technology in Korean industry is the lower level of the advanced state. In this study, we survey the demand of precision measurement technology including instrument and technologies in Korean industry, and provide the objective data on the level of precision measurement technology based on the report "A Study on the Current Status of Precision Measurement in Korea(KRISS, 2001)". We summarize contents on the precision measurement technology in Korean industry, provide the assessment model for the level of precision measurement technology, and analyze the results of these. The level of the precision measurement technology of National Standards Institution, KRISS, approaches those of the advanced state, but levels of the precision measurement technology in Korean industry are 2~3 years behind levels of National Standards Institution.Analysis model and results are analyzed for the important index to compare the levels of the precision measurement technology in Korean industry. Therefore, it is expected to provide the development for precision measurement technology and improve the system of precision measuring instruments, level of precision and accuracy, calibration, technical manpower for measurement etc. in Korean industry.

This paper examined the effect of the ERP introduction on the productivity of firms. This paper finds out the differences of the effect on the productivity of ERP introduction by organization characteristics, and suggests some guidelines of S/W development to vendors. The results would be strong implications for ERP vendors. Especially this paper identifies the check points in the establishment time of ERP S/W. To do this, this paper used empirical data obtained from the firms and analyzed it by using statistical software.

This paper examined the productivity of partners in international strategic alliances. Trust and commitment were used as the proxy for the partnership of strategic alliances. Financial position and complementarity of capital investment were used as the proxy for the capital investment of inter-firm alliances. Market strength and experiences of allianced firm were used as the proxy for the relative size of strategic alliances. Productivity was measured by value-added output of labor. Characteristics of industry and technology related investment were used as the proxy for the control forces. In order to verify the hypotheses, some tools were used such as reliability analysis and multiple regression analysis. Based on the analysis of the 123 strategic alliances cases, the following results were found. First, it was found that the capital investment of inter-firm alliance and relative size of alliance firm have a significant positive influences on the productivity of participants in international strategic alliances. Second, complementarity of capital investment and market strength of alliance firms have a significant positive influences on the productivity of partners in international strategic alliances. Third, technology related investment has a significant influence on the productivity of partners in international strategic alliances.

The main purpose in this study is to examine the influence of public relations activity on the productivity of hospital. To examine this, empirical study is conducted:19 hospitals were selected as samples for this study and 373 questions were used. The dependent variables are job satisfaction and organizational committment. Independent variables include five measures, P.R.'s organization, strategy and appraisal, method, education, and support. Correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis are performed to test on the effect of P.R.'s activity on job satisfaction and organizational committment. The findings show that job satisfaction and organizational committment are influenced by hospital P.R.'s activity. Especially job satisfaction and organizational committment are increased by activity of P.R. education and support.

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) tend to show the reluctancy to adapt the new business practices such as global e-commerce or e-trade. The reason for this reluctancy comes from the psychological and practical barriers to enter the new practices of e-trade. But there are clear advantages for the adaptation of the e-trade in terms of its cost-saving and value-creative incentives. The study is aimed to test the effective combination of these two factors into the global e-commerce or e-trade. The empirical study shows some missing link among policies, technologies and business strategies for e-trade. Based on the empirical result, the study suggests the strategic needs of intermediaries for e-trade as a facilitator, collaborator and web-service provider.
