페미니즘과 성정체성 담화분석

This paper provides a focused overview and critique of Feminist Linguistics including Conversation Analysis(CA) based on discourse and gender identity. CA presupposes that the social world is a pervasively conversational one in which an overwhelming proportion of the world’s business is conducted through the medium of social interaction. CA, however, has some restrictions not to micro-analyze the exigencies of talk-in-interaction for gender identity. Feminist Poststructuralism Discourse Analysis(FPDA) with a ‘variable and effects’ analysis and interaction framework is an alternative means of describing, analysing and interpreting an aspect of spoken interaction overlooked by CA. FPDA can apply to a variety of settings where discourses interact with each other to construct unequal power relations within texts or talk, whether domestic, social, public or institutional by representing the complexities and ambiguities of female experience and by giving space to female voices that are being silenced and peripheralized by masculinised discourses.

The purposes of this study are to suggest the establishment of the Curriculum Development Center (CDC) for more efficient curriculum development, and to explore the overall features of the procedure of curriculum revision based on the CDC. In order to achieve these purposes, the data of the previous English National Curriculums, and papers on the procedure of developing curriculum were reviewed. In this paper, it is proposed that the CDC should be established to revise the national curriculum based on the results of the groundwork research effectively. In the CDC, the problems with the current curriculum through interviews and surveys can be diagnosed and found, and the connectedness between primary and secondary school can be checked systematically. Furthermore, each phase of curriculum development is reviewed, which could provide procedural information about the national curriculum development and its application. In this respect, the phases of the curriculum (analysis - design - development - experiment - evaluation - revise - application) are suggested in developing the English National Curriculum.

자연언어 검색 질의문 인식을 위한 유한 그래프 문법의 구축

This study aims to discuss the limit of actual keyword-based information retrieval systems and to present the finite-state Local Grammar Graphs(LGGs) constructed in this work for the purpose of the accurate recognition of queries by natural languages. We observed some real queries about the “agent(i.e. person & company)” in IT domain, such as “Who's the president of NHN Corp.?” “Let me know if Mr. Lee Jae-yong has a Ph.D.” “What's the latest model of Digital Cameras produced by Samsung?”. From this observation we classified the query types into 9 classes and divided them again into 38 sub-classes. Several graphs for each sub-class were built and we obtained finally 163 finite graphs that represent more than 4 millions of query patterns by natural language such as ‘-i gaibalha-n(develop-Sd) -neun muos(what)-ipni-gga?’(What's the LCD TV developed by Samsung?'). Empirical results show that our LGG graphs can recognize 90% of real queries by natural language and we notice that some types of complex phrases and adverbial sequences should be treated in our LGG patterns in the future works.

영어 등위접속의 제약

It is generally said that in English, only identical categories can be coordinated by coordinate conjunctions like and, but, or or. This equal syntactic category requirement on coordinates has a limited explanatory power, however, in that there exist cases where elements of the same grammatical category cannot be coordinated or elements of the different grammatical category can be coordinated. Given this, this paper aims to explore various constraints imposed on English coordination and account for the well- or ill-formedness of coordination in a principled manner. To this end, it makes these proposals: (i) elements of the different syntactic category can be coordinated to the extent that their grammatical functions are the same; (ii) for elements to be coordinated, they need to form semantico-pragmatic common meaning unit or a common topic, have the same thematic roles, and be equal in terms of semantic field and compatible with each other in speech acts.

In this thesis, conversational & structural features of echo question in the Russian colloquial discourse, and the difference between conversational structure and discourse function of repetitive question along with the preceding speech have been addressed. repetitive question is type of a speech that realizes both ‘repetition’ and ‘question’, and the ‘right to answer’ and ‘stimulating function of consequent utterance’ for the preceding utterance coexist in this speech. Meanwhile, repetitive question is a speech that occurs when there is a lack of understanding in the practical condition and receptive condition of the speech intended to utter. In terms of the practical condition, it realizes ‘confirmation of understanding question’, ‘deepening of understanding question’ and ‘examination of understanding question’. Furthermore, in terms of the receptive condition of the speech, it realizes ‘problem raising question’, ‘invalidating question’, and ‘examination of understanding question’.

방과후 학교 영어교육공동체 운영 모형 고찰 - 지역 교육청 사례를 중심으로

After-school public English education programs at the primary-school level have been in operation in Korea since 1996. The main goals of the program are the realization of educational welfare, reduction of private education costs, and the tailoring of schools to community needs. However, several problems have been found regarding the program including the following: an insufficient period of pre-operation pilot testing, an insufficient number of competent teachers, work overload for the teachers, a low satisfaction rate among the participating students, and an unstable supporting budget. This study reviewed the Busan ‘English Education Community’ After-School Education System, which could be of use to (serve as a benchmark case for) other cities in Korea. This study seeks to help establish and support local educational network systems to invigorate the after-school education system. This study suggests that in order for an after-school education program to be most substantive and preserve its original goals, it is necessary to improve its operational system with a strong local educational bond and networking within regional after-school English educational communities.

영어 복합어의 복수형 굴절접미사 첨가에 대한 최적성 이론적 분석

The purpose of this paper is to reconsider realization of the English inflectional plural suffix /z/ in compounds within the framework of Optimality Theory (Prince & Smolnesky 1993; McCarthy & Prince 1993, 1995). I show that none of the previous rule-based analyses provide a satisfactory and unified account of the phenomena. I argue that plural affixation that occurs in compounds is best analyzed in Optimality Theory in terms of Generalized Alignment Constraint (McCarthy & Prince 1993) and Lexically Indexed Markedness Constraint (Pater 2000). I specifically propose lexically indexed markedness constraints WORDPLURALL and WORDPLURALP, which apply only to those lexical items indexed for their application. WORDPLURALL outranks alignment constraint ALIGNPLURALHEAD, which in turn ranks above another lexically indexed markedness constraint WORDPLURALP, while WORDPLURALL ranks beneath the general markedness constraint NOPLURALADJECTIVE. With the constraint ranking, it is shown that realization of the English inflectional plural suffix /z/ in compounds can be accounted for in a straightforward way. I also show that plural formation of compounds such as ‘craftsman,’ which could not be accounted for within the framework of Lexical Morphology & Phonology, are best analyzed under the analysis assumed in this paper.

중학 영어 교과서 듣기 대본의 참여자 수와 성별에 따른 대화 특징

The purpose of this study is to investigate the number of participants and conversational characteristics in gender participated in listening scripts(LS) of Middle School English Textbooks(MSET). Of the 13 kinds of MSET written by the 7th National English curriculum, the five most preferred series of MSET(7th-9th grades) are analyzed for this research. For the study, the researchers have mostly relied on data collection, not subjects. This study leads to the following results: Two people, m:f(male and female) appear in most often, extending over all grades. The conversation(93) between parents and children was studied in terms of politeness. As a result, the conversation(51) between mothers and sons was used most. Tag questions(52) were more used by women than men. In designing LS of MSET, textbook developers and English educators need to consider this study to develop better LS, the very core of listening material.

This paper reports on a study of the semantic patterns of English-to-Korean translations of to-infinitives and gerunds. This paper first investigates the semantic uses of English to-infinitives and gerunds. The uses are discussed in terms of actualization, aspect, and nominality. Even though there are some disagreements concerning the strict demarcation between the two uses, we suggest that there be dominant criteria for them. From the data analysis about the frequency and semantic uses of the two constructions, we argue that Korean translations reflect the characteristics of actualization and nominality shown in English to-infinitives and gerunds.

The Korean Suffix -Te as Spatial Deictic Tense

This paper argues that the Korean suffix -te is not an evidential marker, nor a simple tense marker, but a spatial deictic tense that induces an evidential environment. The suffix -te not only denotes a temporally deictic past time, but also the speaker's spatial deictic vantage point at the reference time (cf. Faller (2004)), which serves as an anchoring point (i.e., “shifted here and now”) for evidentials. It is suggested that Korean has two distinctive deictic (indexical) tenses: simple deictic tense and spatial deictic tense. The difference is that the former does not necessarily require the reference to the speaker's own perceptual field or to his/her spatial location. This analysis provides a way to potentially incorporate even pure evidentials in other languages into the semantics of tense.

Cross-Language Interdependence and Transfer: Orthography, Phonology, and Semantics in the Reading Acquisition of Shallow and Deep Orthographic Scripts

The functional role of orthography, phonology, and semantics in bilingual literacy development was examined, utilizing contrasts between a shallow orthography (Korean) and deep orthography (English). The participants consisted of two groups: (1) young Korean-native children who lived in Korea and learned English as L2 (Korean-English bilinguals) and (2) Korean immigrant children residing in the U.S. who were learning Korean as L2 (English-Korean bilinguals). Regression analyses evidenced a different pattern between the groups in predicting L1 and L2 reading performance. This study showed that orthographic, phonological, and semantic domains played a different role in learning shallow and deep orthographies. The linguistic characteristics of L1 also had an impact on learning L2. Orthographic representation served as a more significant factor than phonological processing skills for Korean-English bilinguals whose L1 had a consistent letter-sound correspondence. In contrast, phonological processing skills were considered important for English-Korean bilingual learners whose L1 was a deeper orthography.

Domains in Phonological Theory: A case study from Nuuchahnulth

This paper examines the role of domain of application of phonological and morphological processes in one language, Nuuchahnulth. The paper argues that the various processes encountered in the language are best understood as involving a division of labor between the stem level and the word level domains. One consequence of this conclusion is that a mono-stratal, non-derivational model of the grammar, such as standard Optimality Theory (OT) is unsuited to the task of dealing with such cases. In this paper I argue that we must adopt a model which allows at least a constrained amount of derivation, such as the model of Stratal OT, as in Bermúdez-Otero(1999), Kiparsky(2000), et al.
