This paper proposes A Plan for the Teaching Method of Korean Verbs through Awareness of Argument Structure. Existing Korean verbs education consists of syntactic and semantic aspects. In syntactic terms, it mainly consists of individual case particles and pattern expressions training. In semantic terms, it mainly consists of polysemous words training. Despite the fact that such training for verbs progresses steadily, the errors of learners concerning the verbs have not decreased. This paper finds the reasons for these problems from not making the best use of the lexical properties of the verbs in existing educational contents and methods. This paper includes syntactic and semantic properties of the verbs as educational contents. For example, dative verbs are three-place predicate that it is necessary to present ‘-ege’ component as an essential one. It is also useful in making correct sentences by using dative verbs. As a semantic information, it presents θ-role structure of dative verbs. Based on the existing discussion, this paper presents as follows: <Source, Goal, Theme>. This paper focuses on the cognition of the meanings of verbs that can be useful to understand the meanings and to make sentences. (Seoul National University)

This research is a pioneering work about assignment that is carried out as Korean studies project. The result of this study will combine the personality of Korean studies and social science into a special form. According to the recent tendency of Korean language study the technical terms needed for teachers and investigator making clear scientific study. Based on the personality of this science and established sphere of lemma in poly science, researchers called this Korean Studies. Researchers marked both morphological and methodological sides of the dictionary and descriptive mode of lemma before considering categories at the theoretical level and practical stratigraphy in the microstructure of this encyclopedia. It also include minor domains such as authentic information and usage. Specifically, when writers describe standard language, they have to arrange relevant entry words according to political necessity and as an authentic teaching method. In the case of foreigners learning Korean language as an educational object, it is considered in public language section. Korean language educational science has system which is included the wide scope from educational policy, course of instruction, teaching material, teaching method, assessment to the relevant basis studies. Just use educational basis and refer it as the inner circle and the outer circle as educational policy and so on. Inner depth is detected as proceeding to seeking the center. Investigators find core section(lexeme) if they enter deeply in each domain. This encyclopedia is constructed through these process. Researchers referred to foreign language education dictionaries and analyzed those structure. Entry word category is deeply examined in the basis study when researchers think about how to describe a lemma. Because this encyclopedia is suited for environment of users, the final will be developed to electronic dictionary as well as paper dictionary. In conclusion, researchers found that microstructure of this encyclopedia make clear scientific results or point at issue. Hereafter, there is remained of dividing off description methods at layers of lemma and finding description typology in entry word category. (Seoul National University)

This study was focused on the investigation of characteristics of Korean education and Korean vocabulary education for North Korean Refugee, because there have been limited study on Korean education for North Korean Refugee. But, this study has limitation that it did not provide program or concrete syllabus. This study suggested potentials for follow-up studies. The following are the several important fields of follow-up studies. First; the study to concretize the scope and contents of Korean culture education for North Korean Refugee. The concrete education contents will be come to light after investigating the homogeneity and difference of South and North Korean language and culture. These should be investigated for the preparation of reunification. Second; the study on the differences of ways for communication and speech act. South and North Korean speech act should be studied based on direct and indirect speech act. Third; the study on multi-layered design of education program for North Korean Refugee, considering the characteristics of Korean education for North Korean Refugee. The development of education program for adapting North Korean Refugee to South Korea and preparing reunification is a urgent and important matter. Active follow-up studies are required.

Regarding that an attitude for culture of Korean language is very important for Korean language education, this study shows perspective and direction of attitude instruction in culture of Korean language. This study shows attitude of inquiry, acceptance, practice. These were analyzed by three measures: awareness, emotion, action. And also this study shows the way of measurement of attitude based on these criteria and the way of improvement of positive attitude on culture of Korean language.(Seoul National University)

The purpose of this study is to discuss a concept and a direction of language-culture for efficient teaching Korean language. I expect this model is useful in teaching and learning foreign language because language and culture are closely connected to each other. The results of this research are: a) Language-culture is the marked contents to the acceptor, not to the sender. Therefore it is necessary to include language-culture into foreign language curricula as a means for promoting intercultural communication. (b) It needs the interactional view for understanding of an intercultural communication. This research, as a preliminary study to compile Korean Education Dictionary, has a purpose to build a system of the dictionary in a methodic and a professional way. The main goal of Korean Education Dictionary is to establish academic identity of Korean language education and to arrange and interpret terminologies from a Korean educational viewpoint. Implementation of such purpose should be achieved through specializing contents of Korean language education according to the subject and its systematic description. From this point of view, one needs to separate microstructure and macrostructure apart to study about the system of Korean Education Dictionary. In this paper, the researchers focus on macrostructure and continue in this direction. For this matter, this paper points out that study of macrostructure should be conducted by followings. One needs to do basic documentary research to select headwords of the dictionary at first. Second, based on the carefully selected primary headwords, fundamental practices committee and groups of experts extracts the headwords. Third, one then decides how to present the selected headwords. This research points out that the study of subject specialization should be conducted through frequency of basic documentary research. (Seoul National University)

The aim of this study is to analyze difference of patterns of using cohesive devices for academic presentation and report. Futhermore, I intend to analyze correlation of oral discourse competence and written discourse competence. I collected 20 oral presentations and 20 reports by foreign graduate students. The idiomatic structure 'mal(eul/do)mala', which has already become a fixed one, is transformed from 'mal+malda' which means to restrain the action while words are being uttered. It is usually functioned pragmatically in spoken language. To be specific, ‘mal(eul/do)mala' refers to degree in most cases. If it is placed just near the beginning of a sentence, it has the most abstract meaning and the pragmatic function of drawing attention. If it is placed in the middle of a sentence, emphasis is made. The purpose of this study is to present strategies and language expressions of counterargument for Korean learners. The debate has been studied to help Korean advanced learners to improve their speaking ability. And many studies present strategies and language expressions of debate in the class for the academic purpose. Despite of many related studies, counterargument has received little attention. The counterargument is essential for the debate and it could be threatening to both debaters because they frequently deliver different opinions. In that sense, this study analyzes real debates and presents strategies and language expressions of counterargument to teach korean learners to deliver their opposite opinions efficiently and politely. Communication skill means a person's capability to be able to make a grammatical sentence and to be able to determine what sentence he/she will make and how he/she will make a sentence at any circumstances. Address term serves as a critical role in smooth communication. It is very important to improve the communication skill of Chinese learners as they are taught Korean language. As the demand for Korean language education is widening, learners with diverse cultural and religious backgrounds are increasing. Muslim learners of Korean language also are increasing in Korean and abroad. This paper is an attempt to find out elements which should be considered for teaching Korean effectively to learners with Muslim backgrounds. For this purpose the author looks into some features of Islam and characteristics of Saudi Arabia and then measures by means of a questionnaire how Saudi Arabian learners of Korean language adapt themselves to the Korean language and culture. The paper present comments of the personal experiences of teachers who have been in charge of classes with Saudi Arabian learners. The research shows that, while studying in Korea, the Saudi Arabian learners are experiencing maladjustments in psychological factors such as homesickness and cultural shock, and in attitude factors such as familiarity with the Korean culture, contacts with Koreans, difficulty in Korean language use and living in Korea. This study is about the effect of internet application competence on Korean language achievement. Today, the development of computers and other digital devices in our way of life has brought great changes. Recognizing and extracting necessary information, the correct assessment, reconstruction of selected information for problem solving and for the reuse of post-storage and shared with others are required in the new digital era. These required can be called the Internet Application Competence. I analyzed the effect of Internet Application Competence on Korean language achievement of Chinese students who study Korean. As a result of this study, the followings are suggested in order to improve the Internet Application Competence of students. 1) The development of measure tool of Internet Application Competence is needed. 2) the study on the effect of Internet Application Competence subdivision on the Korean specific subjects should be performed in a material way. 3) a systematic curriculum for the specific sub-components Internet Application Competence should be delivered in conjunction with the existing curriculum. 4) the teachers' retraining programs for sub-components Internet Application Competence are needed.
