Background: Although housing poverty, family conflict, and depression have been identified as significant predictors of suicidal ideation (SI) among people with disabilities (PWDs), especially in the COVID-19 situation, little attention has been paid to the mechanisms among these determinants. Objective: This study examined the mediating roles of family conflict and depression between housing poverty in the COVID-19 situation and SI. Methods: We analyzed the 15th 2020 Korean Welfare Panel Study, conducted during the implementation of social distancing measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. A final sample was 666 PWDs living with families, and two serial mediation analyses were conducted to examine the serial effects of housing poverty on SI, mediated via negative family conflict resolution and depression. Results: housing poverty was found to be a significant predictor of higher levels of negative family conflict resolution, consequently triggering depression, which, in turn, was associated with greater SI. Conclusion: The findings underscore the importance of addressing family conflict between PWDs and their family caregiver in cramped spaces amid the COVID-19 lockdown to prevent SI among PWDs.

The purpose of this study was to identify the current status of middle-aged suicides in Gimhae based on statistical data and to derive preventive measures. Among people in Gimhae city, men were about three times more likely to commit suicide than women. The main causes of suicide by age were mental problems in the 40s and Financial problems in the 50s. The rate of stress perception among middle-aged people in Gimhae city was somewhat higher than other age groups, with men reporting higher rates than women. The rate of depression among people in Gimhae city was slightly higher than that of Gyeongsangnam-do people, with more women experiencing depression than men. Among the core indicators of suicide, the number of suicide deaths, depression experience rate, and high-risk drinking rate were higher than those of Gyeongsangnam-do and the nation, and the number of suicide prevention officials was lower. It can be used as a basis for tailoring suicide prevention programs that take into account a variety of factors for middle-aged adults at risk of suicide who are encountered in the community.

This study aims to provide foundational insights for supporting new graduate nurses facing adaptation crises post-preceptorship by exploring their independent work experiences in general hospitals. Following COREQ guidelines, this phenomenological study analyzed data from 15 new graduate nurses who completed an average six week preceptorship and subsequently worked in a general hospital ward for six to eight months. Data were collected through one-on-one in-depth interviews and analyzed using Colaizzi's method. Four themes and nine subthemes emerged: “Filling the gaps alone”, “Work as a burden”, “Life intertwined with the hospital”, and “Strength to overcome crisis”. The provision of systematic support for new graduate nurses to adapt to clinical settings should extend beyond preceptorship. Furthermore, intentional efforts must be made to create an inclusive organizational culture, enabling new graduate nurses to overcome crises and successfully adapt to the clinical setting.

This paper begins with the awareness of issues arising from the current Framework Act on The Management of Disasters and Safety, which fails to adequately encompass new and complex disasters despite their increasing frequency and severity in today's society. It highlights the absence of an objective definition of social disasters and the confusion caused by the varying structures, missions, and roles of local government disaster and safety management organizations, which lack clear identity. To address these issues, the study aims to reexamine the disaster classification system and the role of local government disaster and safety management departments under Framework Act on The Management of Disasters and Safety. It identifies various problems based on cases of new and complex disasters, and compares and analyzes the differences in the organizational structures of metropolitan and local government disaster and safety management organizations. Ultimately, it proposes new disaster classification schemes and redefinitions of social disasters under Framework Act on The Management of Disasters and Safety, and suggests standard missions and organizational structures for local government disaster and safety management organizations.

This study comprehensively assesses the accuracy, accessibility, and comprehensibility of veterinary information disseminated by major media outlets in Korea. Understanding how media present such information is crucial for ensuring informed decision-making among pet owners and the general public. The study analyzed and compared the characteristics of veterinary information coverage between newspaper media and television news media over the past three years. A content analysis was conducted on 300 news articles from selected media outlets, and a survey involving 1,000 members of the general public assessed their perceptions of veterinary information. Television news media were found to score higher in accessibility and comprehensibility compared to newspaper media, excelling in easy access and understanding through audiovisual materials. Both types of media demonstrated high accuracy. Survey responses highlighted a need to enhance the reliability, accessibility, and comprehensibility of veterinary information. They also revealed that mass media's presentation significantly impacts public accessibility and understanding. The findings suggest that steps to enhance coverage include reducing jargon, improving visuals, and ensuring transparent sourcing to empower pet owners with reliable information.

We live by using various pictograms in our daily lives. Pictograms are a symbolic picture language and have the advantage that anyone can easily and quickly recognize them. In particular, pictograms that announce disaster situations are widely used in each country. This is an era of climate crisis. Climate disasters are getting more and more serious. However, we are not officially using pictograms that symbolize the climate crisis. This overlooks the seriousness of the climate crisis. In this study, we would like to propose a climate crisis symbol pictogram that can be used together by the world. It is designed to visually recognize the climate crisis by synthesizing the graph of the increase in global surface temperature in the IPCC 6th report and the heating stripes of Professor Ed Hawkins at the University of Reading in the UK. It is expected that international organizations related to the climate crisis, such as IPCC, UNFCCC, and UNEP, will use this pictogram in various ways to publicize the seriousness of the climate crisis.
