This paper classifies the critical knowledge/skill set required to IS practitioners according to content or domain of knowledge : IS technology knowledge/skills, organizational and societal knowledge/skills, interpersonal knowledge/skills, and personal traits knowledge/skills. The survey reveals that Korean IS practitioners rate interpersonal knowledge/skills and personal traits knowledge/skills the most important, and organizational and societal knowledge/skills the least important. Specifically, they rate creative thinking, critical thinking, interpersonal communication skills, team working skills, personal motivation, operating systems, programming languages, DB/data warehouse, IS technological trend, network/communication/security especially important. The survey also shows that Koran IS practitioners feel knowledge deficiency in almost all knowledge/skills areas. The results confirm that the curriculum of universities, the training and education programs of industries, and IS/IT education policy of the government should be revised as soon as possible.

The SRGM has been studied under the assumption that S/W reliability can grow as the fault causing failure is removed even during operational phase because the debugging is available. On the other hand, some papers insist on the uniform failure rate during operational phase because the debugging may not be available in case of universal software. The phenomenon, however, has been observed informally many times that the products S/W reliability grows as the time goes by even without any debugging in point of customer view. I propose the simple approaching method to model the S/W reliability phenomenon that the failure rate reduces as time goes on without modifying the existing reliability model in this paper.

There has been a tremendous need for dual homing cell switch assignment problems where calling volume and patterns are different at different times of the day. This problem of assigning cells to switches in the planning phase of mobile networks consists in finding an assignment plan which minimizes the communication costs taking into account some constraints such as capacity of switches. This optimization problem is known to be difficult to solve, such that heuristic methods are usually utilized to find good solutions in a reasonable amount of time. In this paper, we propose an evolutionary approach, based on the genetic algorithm paradigm, for solving this problem. Simulation results confirm the appropriateness and effectiveness of this approach which yields solutions of good quality.

In this paper, we investigate the inter-organizational information systems effect to supply chain partnerships, and subsequently to the performance. The conceptual model for the causal relationships among interorganizational systems usage, interaction, partnership, and supply chain performances has been developed. Theoretical framework is based on the partnership research in relationship marketing area, and the Interaction model from IMP group. The questionnaires are designed to test the hypotheses of the conceptual model. The survey result supports our hypotheses that collaborative IT effects to increase the interaction between the firms, and interaction causes to enhance the partnership quality. Also, the level of partnership shows strong positive correlation with the supply chain performances. Despite the limitations of collected sample data size, our study reveals the fact that inter-organizational information systems contribute to supply chain performance through enhancing the interaction and partnership level between the supply chain partners. Our research result is distinct from the most extant literatures that investigated the firm’s collaboration impact on interorganizational systems usage.

Since the World-Wide Web (WWW) has become a major channel for information delivery, information overload also has become a serious problem to the Internet users. Therefore, effective information searching is critical to the success of Internet services. We present an integrated search engine for searching relevant web pages on the WWW in a certain Internet domain. It supports a local search on the web sites. The spider obtains all of the web pages from the web sites through web links. It operates autonomously without any human supervision. We developed state transition diagram to control navigation and analyze link structure of each web site. We have implemented an integrated local search engine and it shows that a higher satisfaction is obtained. From the user evaluation, we also find that higher precision is obtained.

Based on literature relating to the TAM (technology acceptance model) and TPB (theory of planned behavior), this study extends the TAM in a mobile banking context. The extended model was tested using LISREL analysis on the sample of 222 users who have experience with the banking service. The model was partially supported in a mobile banking context, accounting for 49% of the variance in the usage intention. The results showed that the perceived usefulness, the perceived credibility, and the perceived financial cost play a significant role in influencing the usage intention of the mobile banking service. In addition, instant connectivity and perceived credibility were found to influence the perceived usefulness, and self-efficacy and instant connectivity were found to influence the perceived ease of use. Implications of these findings are discussed for researchers and practitioners.

Due to limited radio resource, an effective paging strategy is essential for improving the utility of radio channels. In current mobile communication networks, when a mobile-terminated call occurs, the network locates the mobile by paging all cells within the location area simultaneously. In this study, we introduces paging strategies that can page some cells or only one cell within the location area to reduce paging cost on radio channels using paging agents. We propose another new paging strategy that can page only one cell within the location area and may have better performance. We also compare the performance of our proposed paging strategy with the performance of the current simultaneous paging strategy and some new paging strategies using paging agents. This paper suggests the most effective paging strategy using mathematical models. The result of this research will be used to select a proper paging strategy in the mobile communication networks.

It is hardly achieved Electronic Commerce (EC) activation if there isn’t any performance in spite of the estimation that EC would improve whole economic efficiency. Therefore, there should be a need for the research whether implementation and utilization of EC really improve companies" business performance. The primary purpose of this study is to investigate the level of EC utilization in Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and analyze its effect on business performance in terms of BSC. The results indicate that EC utilization in various fields of business and the use of information created through EC are significantly related to higher business performance, but EC volume is not. This study examines facing problems of SMEs in utilizing EC as well.

Recently, flash memories are one of best media to support portable computer"s storages in mobile computing environment. We propose a new transaction recovery scheme for a flash memory database environment which is based on a flash media file system. We improved traditional shadow paging schemes by reusing old data pages which are supposed to be invalidated in the course of writing a new data page in the flash file system environment. In order to reuse these data pages, we exploit deferred cleaning list structure in our flash memory shadow paging (FMSP) scheme. FMSP scheme removes the additional storage overhead for keeping shadow pages and minimizes the I/O performance degradation caused by data page distribution phenomena of traditional shadow paging schemes. We also propose a simulation model to show the performance of FMSP. Based on the results of the performance evaluation, we conclude that FMSP outperforms the traditional scheme.

As the number of Internet users increases, online shopping malls are gradually flourishing and sales are continuously growing. However, since consumers are not able to check what they purchase when buying products on the Internet, they are bound to have higher risk perception than buying directly from off-line stores. Especially, sporting goods require a special attention because a preliminary test is important. Therefore, the risk perception is much higher when people purchase sporting goods online. This study first identifies the multi-dimensionality of risk perception. Then, it investigates whether online purchasing experience of sporting goods makes differences in the level of risk perception. In addition, it examines whether the risk perception by those who had an experience in purchasing sporting goods online affects the customer satisfaction. This study has identified five dimensions in the concept of risk perception, such as financial risk, performance risk, security risk, delivery risk, and psychological/physical risk. A statistical analysis shows that people without an experience in purchasing sporting goods online have perceived significantly higher performance risk, security risk, and psychological/physical risk than those with online purchasing experiences. Finally, this study has found that delivery risk, financial risk, and psychological/physical risk have significant negative influences on the customer satisfaction.

Despite the careful attention paid by managers and researchers to the effective administration of the S/W Development Project, there are cases where the project goes over-budget or misses deadlines. Existing research blames these problems on task complexity or mismanagement. In order to verify the results that varied according to the fitness between the Task Characteristics and the Project Management Types, a contingency model was employed. The verification of the contingency model demonstrated that the greater the task complexity, the greater the effectiveness of the project coordination, and the lesser the task complexity, the greater the effectiveness of project control. This research is theoretically important in that it develops a composite model to verify the relation between the three factors of Task Characteristics, Project Management Types, and Project Performance that compose the S/W Development Project.
