Mixed Reality Visualization of Financial Accounting Data

Mixed reality (MR) representation of accounting numbers is used as an alternative way of virtually engaging users of real three dimensional graphics of financialdata. An experiment was conducted to compare the usability and knowledge drawn from utilizing a table of numbers versus MR representations. The results showed that when MR was used, the participants"ratings of the firm"s financial status and performance were more congruent with those of experts than when a table was employed. Also, MR was seen as providing less complex information with a shorter amount of time being spent and was perceived as being easyanduseful.

Exploring Knowledge Processing in a Social Complex Adaptive Organization : Wikipedia through the Lens of the LIFE Model

A deeper understanding of how organizations behave as social complex adaptive systems is needed. In this paper we demonstrate how the Leadership Invigorating Flows of Energies model can help with this understanding. The model highlights the role of emergent leadership as a force encouraging the creation. diffusion. and utilization of knowledge through self-organizing mechanisms. We illustrate our approach by examining Wikipedia and show how it can be described as a social CAS. Our analysis of Wikipedia describes how emerging intrapreneurship behaviors result in dynamic flows of knowledge and self-organizing feedback mechanisms across the organization. We provide implications for organization studies and present evidence to support claims made by advocates of complexity theory. We conclude by proposing that Wikipedia can be seen as a new form of organization, and finish with a brief note highlighting a possible way forward.

Emergency Management on Internet Spread of Social Events

The rapid development and widespread application of Internet has provided a platform for people to participate and discuss social hotspot events. In the meantime, social events may be spread throughout the Internet more quickly and widely than they did ever before, and possibly lead to serious social problems due to opinion violence or seditious rumour. This paper analyzed the Internet spread of social events, and presented a five-stage model to describe the evolution process of that spread. Furthermore, the improved IBF* algorithm was applied to extract a pruned connected graph aiming to find the key nodes and the shortest spread path for the control of that spread. After analyzing the different factors that may cause the netizens" attention, this paper concluded BBS type, the visit quantity and the opinion leader are key factors which affect the Internet spread. Based on those researches, a life-cycle emergency management methodology and the related strategies were proposed for the achievement of healthy spreading environment on Internet.

The growth in the use of ubiquitous computing based on mobile services as an enabler to conduct business more effectively has been phenomenal. Technology acceptance model (TAM) has been applied in different contexts to examine a wide range of information technologies (IT). As more and more companies are finding ways to utilize ubiquitous computing based on mobile services, an important issue is to understand what factors will impact the decisions of consumers in adopting the services. Based on TAM with three additional groups of external factors, i.e., service-related factors (ubiquitous access, context awareness) and technology-related factors (perceived security risk, network connectivity) that are theoretically justified as having influence on both perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use which are additionally considered, a research model for the investigated technology acceptance was developed and empirically examined, using responses from more than intended users of ubiquitous computing based on mobile services. The specific purposes of this study are as follows. Firstly, this study is to identify service beliefs considering unique characteristics for ubiquitous services such as perceived ubiquitous access and perceived context awareness. Secondly, this study is to investigate network characteristics beliefs such as perceived security and perceived connectivity. Thirdly, this paper investigates the relationship among variables such as ubiquitous characteristics, network characteristics, behavioral beliefs, and intention to use ubiquitous web services. This study uses a structural equation model to test the research model. The major results of this study are as follows. Firstly, ubiquitous access has a influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Context awareness has an influence on perceived usefulness. Secondly, User familiarity has an influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, and intention to use. User innovativeness has an influence on perceived ease of use. Thirdly, perceived security risk has an influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Network connectivity has an influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Fourth, there exist differential effects among factors in structural model among information, transaction, and entertainment services.

For decades, thousands of corporation introduced knowledge management systems to respond knowledge-based society. However, it seems that the systems merely focusing on knowledge accumulation and its sharing have been bounded by many restrictions in terms of new knowledge creation based on the life cycle of knowledge management systems. Moreover, recently, a variety of knowledge management activities regarding organization, systems, and process is emphasized as a strategic asset for a corporation to create core knowledge. Therefore, this study adopted the Csikszentmihalyi"s flow theory to investigate the factors affecting knowledge creation and the success factors of knowledge management systems in virtual space. Prior studies argued that flow experience should be a prerequisite for creative knowledge creation. In that vein, this research revealed the causal relationships for flow experience between the determinants of clear goal, immediate feedback, congruence of challenge and skill. Additionally, it empirically examined how flow experience affected the exploratory behavior of knowledge creation.

Considering how an organization is timely competitive for survival in the rapidly changing environment of today, it is more important to get new information and knowledge continuously by teams. However team system provides organization with opportunities and, at the same time, is provoked into conflict by the diversity of team members. This study examines the effect of team diversity on knowledge creation and investigates the influence of absorptive capacity and conflict as mediators. The sample population consisted of officials who work in teams at two business corporations that have successfully achieved knowledge creation. The result presents team diversity serves as an effective factor for absorptive capacity and absorptive capacity also serves as an effective factor for knowledge creation. In contrast, team diversity brings team members into conflict and conflict has a negative effect on knowledge creation. Another significant finding of this research is the fact that a positive effect of absorptive capacity on knowledge creation is greater than a negative effect of conflict on it. It clearly demonstrates that team diversity can be an important determinant of knowledge creation if an organization tries to reduce team member"s conflict.

As the sales volume of online shops increases, the job burden in the back-offices of the online shops also increases. Order picking is the most labor-intensive operation among the jobs in a back-office and mid-size pure click online shops are experiencing the time delay and complexity in order picking nowadays while fulfilling their customers" orders. Those warehouses of the mid-size shops are based on manual systems, and as order pickings are repeated, the warehouses get a mess and lots of products in those warehouses are getting missing, which results in severe delay in order picking. To overcome this kind of problem in online clothing shops, we research a methodology to locate warehousing products. When products arrive at a warehouse, they are packed into a box and located on a rack in the warehouse. At this point, the operator should determine the box to be put in and the location on the rack for the box to be put on. This problem could be formulated as an Integer Programming model, but the branch-and-bound algorithm to solve the IP model requires enormous computation, and sometimes it is even impossible to get a solution in a proper time. So, we relaxed the problem, developed a set of heuristics as a methodology to get a semi-optimum in an acceptable time, and proved by an experiment that the solutions by our methodology are satisfactory and acceptable by field managers.
