We examine the factors which determines the control exercised by Korean International Joint Ventures over their Chinese Subsidiaries. And we tested the relationships between these factors and the performance of Chinese subsidiaries. Our findings show the control over subsidiaries tends to tighten their production and product policy when the parent as its manager operates Chinese subsidiaries. In addition, it is observed that the parent's control of marketing/personnel/ production management is positively influenced by the performance of Chinese subsidiaries.
The Chinese government, recently, recognised 'Logistics' as one of the core industry in economy, and therefore it made avast amount of provide infrastructure to the industry and lowering its restrictions, for foreign investors and their business, is in motion. Meanwhile, the market envelopment is also changing. Traditional logistics system, which has separate suppliers for each functions (Transportation, Warehouse, Insurance, etc), is turning into more integrated system that can provide multiple function from one provider. In matter of business scale, it is no surprise that general logistics company with asset fits more than small business, which has limitation in long-term strategy, in the Chinese market. There has been abundant empirical research undertaken on the technical efficiency of Korean ports. There has been, however, little or no empirical research that has analyzed the service evaluation index. The main objective in this research is to measure, analyze and evaluate the relative efficiency of the container terminals in Busan using the DEA. This paper utilizes data for the period 2003-2008 to offer a new perspective on the overall efficiency of Busan container terminals with the use of waiting and/or congestion rate. One of the crucial issue to build a model for the assessment of container terminal efficiency is the identification of appropriate inputs and outputs. This issue is not straightforward and an extended and unresolved controversy remains in the literature. Here, the framework assumes that container terminals use various combinations of two inputs to produce one output; the output includes the container volume in term of TEUs and the variables used as inputs are congestion rate and container yard, congestion rate and container crane, waiting rate and container yard, and waiting rate and cargo crane. The Jarque-Bera statistics showed that all the variables including the inputs and outputs were not normally distributed, while the positive value of excess skewness indicated that all the variables had long right tails. This means that there are many small-scaled container terminals.
