As a result of the great attention to the historical and cultural heritage, the achievements of the natural sciences are finding their way into museums. The necessity of preserving the treasures of the artistic and cultural heritage has brought into being a new alliance, an alliance between science and culture. The most sciences of cultural properties pertain mainly to improvement of the methods of identifications, preservation and restoration of historical monuments. Recently a new physical method has appeared that, in a sense, possesses universal capabilities. That method is holography, which successfully combines unique features making it possible not only to create three-dimesional optical replicas of real three -dimensional objects practically indistinguishable from the original but also to study them. We shall deal in this papper with its scientific principle and application for displaying, as well as on other potential applications.

Chemical analysis and metallographic observations of the iron slag were carried out in an attempt to estimate the old iron-making process. The slag containing without Cu indicates that the ore used for smelting was sand iron, not rock ore. The phases identified in the slag were , magnetite, , fayalite etc. This also supports the fact that the smelted ore was iron sand. The total amount of Fe and slag-making components were , respectively. These values were average ones found in the old slags formed in the ancient iron-making process. Assuming that in the ore combines with FeO, resulting in the formation of , the estimated temperature of smelting was found to be about .

This thesis researched for the conservation of a suit of armor that General Jung, Choong Sin had been worn in the 17th century, and of military uniform that was in perfect condition even though it had been underground for over 300years since 1676. As the armor was made with silk and cotton, it was treated by the dry cleaning method and the mild charge system. In the dry cleaning method, the used solvents were n-hexane and n-decane. And the percentage of the dry soap was 2 in the mild charge system. As the military uniform was made with only silk, it was treated by the dry cleaning method through the solvent of n-hexane and n-decane. Armor was repaired by scoured hemp partially, but military uniform became too deteriorated seriously to repair.
