Journal of Linguistic Studies 20(1), 1-19. 今日,日本国内の大学や機関などでは日本人のみならず外国人と共に研究活動を行っている。特に,「研究室」というコミュニティに所属すると一日に大半を研究室で過ごすことも多い。そのため,研究室の構成員との円滑なコミュニケーションをとり関係をうまく保つことは研究活動にも影響することから重要であると考えられる。本研究では,日本人構成員が外国人構成員より少数である研究室を取り上げ,多言語・多文化の環境にある研究室において,日本人構成員・外国人構成員が研究室をどう捉えているかその特徴を明らかにすることを目的とする。調査の結果,構成員の理解可能な言語やその言語能力に差はあるが大きな言語問題につながっていないことが明らかとなった。また,構成員の多様な言語的·文化的背景により研究室に多様性が生まれ,開放的な雰囲気を築いていた。(Catholic University of Daegu)

Ko, Yong-Jin. 2015. A Functional Study on the Japanese Conditional 「BA」 from Pragmatic Perspective. Journal of Linguistic Studies 20(1), 21-42. 日本語の条件表現「バ」に関しては、「バ」の用法の整理をおこなたった国立国語研究所(1964)、前件に表されている事態に対する話し手の事実認識という観点(前田:1991)、前件と後件の間の関連性という観点(藤城:2000)、語用論的な分析を加えた小出(1981), Akatsuka(1983)など、様々な観点から研究がなされた。いままでの研究では、実際、談話上で現れているさまざまな状況、すなわち、省略現象のような総合的な分析が行われていない。そこで、本稿において、条件形式「バ」の談話上でよく使われている慣用的な現象、後件に現れている省略現象という点から、語用論的機能の特徴について分析を行った。その結果、まず、「そういえば」「どちらかいえば」「~ばいい」「~なければならない(いけない)」に現れている機能は「過去回想」「選択」「助言」という機能をはたすことができる場合があるということがわかった。そして、「バ」は「省略表現において勧誘、願望を表す条件形式であること」を表示する機能をもつ形式であるという結論を得た。(Cheju Halla University)

Kim, Joongsub. 2015. A study on the Indigenous Language Protect Policy of Taiwan. Journal of Linguistic Studies 20(1), 43-58. The Indigenous Peoples of Taiwan, with population of about 500,000, are Austronesian language speakers and categorized into 16 ethinic tribes. The Council of Indigenous Peoples of Taiwan Government, was founded in 1996, and then actively utilized some strategies in order to preserve and promote the indigenous languages on the island, which are all considered as languages facing extinction. This paper reviewed some important governmental strategies, focusing on compilation of indigenous language textbooks, training of indigenous language teachers, teaching of indigenous languages, indigenous language proficiency tests, compilation of indigenous language dictionaries. The goal of the governmental efforts in preserving and promoting indigenous languages, encourage indigenous peoples to value their own languages, and enhance the revitalization of these endangered languages. Park, Deok Young. 2015. A study of Korean Proverbs Education in Korean textbook. Journal of Linguistic Studies 20(1), 59-78. This study aims to enhance foreign Korean language learner's communication ability at the moment of speaking through the proper use of Korean proverbs. In chapter II, through the due diligence of the 4 renowned Korean language textbooks that frequently used in university, I illuminated the current up-to-date status of Korean proverbs education. By studying those proverbs, the intermediate level Korean language learners may encounter high level vocabularies. After researching, I figured out a problem in current Korean language textbooks in terms of Korean proverbs writing section. In general, there was much to be developed yet. More specifically the level of proverbs introduced in textbooks was quite misleading. In the 4 textbooks for advanced learners, high level vocabularies were rarely introduced and most were just intermediate level. To wrap up, I maintain that high level vocabularies should be supplemented more in advanced textbooks in order to enhance the foreign Korean language learners' communication ability. Lee, In-Chul, Kang, Mun-Koo & Han, Seok-Hee. 2015. The Study on the Improvement of English Proficiency through Task Force Team Activities. Journal of Linguistic Studies 20(1), 79-98. This study was conducted on the learner-centered class through Task Force Team(TFT) activities, all of which is a form of collaborative learning where students with a same learning objective work together in groups. For this study, 40 students in two separate classrooms of a middle school in Chung-Cheong province participated in the survey. In order to find the effectiveness on the improvement of the learners’ English proficiency, a teaching-learning model using TFT activities had been created, and later applied to classes for this study. In addition, as a way of making learners keep up their work out of classroom, home-learning tasks designed by researchers were also given to the learners as their homeworks throughout the year. The result suggests that the classes using TFT activities led the learners to have higher interest and self-confidence in classes and at the same time made them more self-directed in terms of their learning attitude. Furthermore, the home-learning tasks given by researchers also turned out to be effective in that they participated actively in classes and showed more frequent use of speaking and writing in and out of classroom. Lee, Jieun & Chang, Won Kyung. 2015. A Case Study of Court Interpreters’ Consecutive Interpreting Performances. Journal of Linguistic Studies 20(1), 99-118. This study assessed the interpreting skills of interpreters currently registered with courts, who are referred to as court interpreters in this paper. Thirteen court interpreters’ consecutive interpreting performance was analyzed. After a warm-up exercise, the interpreters, including seven Chinese interpreters and six English interpreters, were asked to interpret recorded speeches with varying degrees of difficulties. The Korean source texts they interpreted were judges’ sentencing with slight modification, adjusted for consecutive interpreting. The interpreters’ interpreting was recorded and then transcribed for analysis. The interpretation was assessed in terms of the accuracy of contents, target language quality and delivery. The results revealed that all the participants have failed to demonstrate sufficient consecutive interpreting skills to deliver accurate interpreting, often mistranslating and producing awkward expressions. The findings suggest that non-Korean speaking defendants may have difficulties with accessing the court and communicating effectively through the interpreters. This paper concludes that court interpreters should be selected based on interpreting skills and that pre-service training is essential for the improvement of the quality of court interpreting. Byun, Gilja. 2015. Summary and comparison of five communicative competence models. Journal of Linguistics Studies, 20(1), 119-132. On the basis of communicative competence models suggested by Canale & Swain (1980), Canale (1983), Bachman (1990), Bachman and Palmer (1996) and Chapell, Grabe and Berns (1997), this paper deals with not only their summaries and comparisons but also their influence on second language teaching and testing. As the result of analyzing the main changes of the models in a chronological order, the following theoretical points are emphasized: 1) language use ability as well as language knowledge, 2) the integrative or holistic model through interactions among components in contrast to the discrete model, 3) the hierarchical and multi-level model instead of the linear model, 4) appropriate language use in a certain context by introducing sociolinguistic competence, 5) function in language use by presenting pragmatic competence, 6) cognitive skills by introducing and elaborating strategic competence, 7) affective factors and personal characteristics in performance. In accordance with these theoretical changes of the models, second language teaching and testing methods should be innovated. Language testing should include language performance as well as language ability and it should be an integrative test reflecting four skills. Likewise, teaching methods should be developed so that learners can use their strategic, functional, sociolinguistic and background competence, but not the previous memorization method in de-contextualized situations. This paper will help to design language testing and teaching methods more effectively. (Macquarie University)

Yang, Changyong. 2015. A Sociolinguistic Study on Language-Mixing: In Case of Korean-Merican Advertising. Journal of Linguistic Studies 20(1), 133-149. The main purpose of the present paper is to investigate the socio-cultural language factors which function as main elements that determine language-mixing in a Korean newspaper circulated in the KAC. The data for this study were drawn from a newspaper which is circulated among bilingual communities in the US in which Korean is widely used and English is also dominant. It is natural that under such conditions the English-mixed rate in advertisements in the newspaper be high, even though the amount of English in advertising varies with social factors. Therefore, an attempt has been made to see to what extent English is used in a bilingual community of an English-based country in terms of sociolinguistic factors. In doing so, it is expected that this study will serve a complementary function to previous studies. (Jeju National University)
