본 논문은 두 개의 발레 경연대회가 클랑 밸리의 학생들이 발레를 직업으로 삼는 결정에 어떤 영향을 미쳤는지 살펴본다. 일반적으로 말레이시아에서는 발레를 배우는 것이 여가 활동으로 간주되지만 클랑 밸리에서 열리는 발레 대회의 수가 증가하면서 학생들이 발레를 전공으로 진지하게 추구하게 되었다. 인터뷰와 아카이브 연구를 동반한 민족지학 적 연구를 사용하여 두 발레 대회가 브랜딩 전략, 댄스 대회 카테고리, 참가비 및 장학금 을 통해 어떻게 상품화되었는지 분석한다. 대회 주최측, 발레 학교 교장, 발레 교사 및 학생들과의 인터뷰를 분석한 결과 대회 주최측은 경제적 기회를 위해 발레 대회를 상품화하는 것으로 나타났다. 그럼에도 불구하고 발레 대회가 해외 유명 발레 기관에 제공하는 장학금과 기회는 클랑 밸리의 학생들이 발레 분야에서 경력을 쌓도록 도움을 주었다. 대회에 참가한 결과, 학생들은 발레 전공을 더욱 진지하게 받아들이게 되었고, 그 결과 강습에 대한 수요가 높아져 말레이시아의 발레 산업으로 더 많은 자본이 유입되 었다. 이 연구를 통해 춤과 경제 사이의 교차점의 중요성이 강조된다.

This article examines how two ballet competitions influenced the decision of students in the Klang Valley to pursue ballet as a career. Although learning ballet is generally considered a leisure activity in Malaysia, a growing number of ballet competitions in the Klang Valley has influenced students to pursue ballet seriously as a discipline. Using ethnographic research by interviews and archival research, this essay analyzes how two ballet competitions have become commodified through branding strategies, dance competition categories, fees, and scholarships. My analysis of interviews with competition organizers, ballet school principals, ballet teachers, and students suggests that competition organizers commodify ballet competitions for economic opportunities. Nevertheless, the scholarships and opportunities offered by ballet competitions to prestigious ballet institutions overseas have encouraged students in the Klang Valley to pursue careers in ballet. As a result of participating in competitions, students have taken ballet training more seriously, resulting in a higher demand for coaching, thus generating greater capital flow into the ballet industry in Malaysia. Throughout this study, the importance of the intersection between dance and economy is highlighted.

이 연구는 리틀엔젤스예술단의 제도와 운영, 레퍼토리 구성, 국제공연예술사적 의미를 중심으로 살펴 한국공연예술사적 의미를 고찰했다. 리틀엔젤스는 초기 준 전문단체로서 의 틀을 갖추고 단원 선발과 악사제도를 운용하였으며 해외 전문 매니지먼트를 통해 순회공연을 진행했다. 이후 학교와 한국문화재단의 설립과 함께 단원선발제도와 운영에 변화를 가져왔다. 리틀엔젤스의 표준 레퍼토리인 무용, 국악, 합창은 문화사절단 활동기 에 무대화되고 체계가 잡히며 표준 레퍼토리가 되었다. 리틀엔젤스의 무용은 신무용의 어린이 군무와 해외무대에 적합하도록 개발되었으며 한국민요와 세계민요 등이 포함된 합창레퍼토리는 공공외교의 역할로 주요했다. 국제공연예술계에서 활동한 어린이예술 단 중 유일한 ‘민속예술단’이었던 리틀엔젤스는 한국고유예술을 국제무대에 소개하는데 일조했다. 어린이예술단이자 60년의 국제교류 역사를 가진 민간예술단 리틀엔젤스 연구 로 한국현대예술사를 풍부하고 입체적으로 조망할 수 있었다.

This study examines the significance of Korean performing arts history by focusing on the Little Angels’ organizations and management, the composition of the repertoires, and the meaning of international performing arts history. As a semi-professional organization, the Little Angels developed and operated the member selection musician system, and toured through overseas professional management in the early days. The repertoires of the Little Angels, including Korean traditional dance, music, and choral music were staged, established and systematized as the standard repertoires during the early activities of the cultural mission. Little Angels' dance was developed to be suitable for the children's group dances and the overseas staging of the new dance, and the choral repertoire, which included Korean folk songs and world folk songs played a major role in public diplomacy. As the only 'folk art troupe' among children's art troupes active in the international performing arts world, the Little Angels helped introduce Korean performing arts to the international audiences. Through the study of the Little Angels, a children's art troupe as well as a private art troupe with a 60-year history of international activities, this paper encompassed the history of Korean contemporary performing arts in a rich and stereoscopic way.

본 연구는 배구자의 초기 발레 작품으로 간주되는 「사(死)의 백조」를 재구성하여 배구자 를 심도 있게 이해하는 데 목적이 있다. 촉접 연구의 첫 번째 단계에서 본 연구자는 배구자가 등장한 사진 자료들과 신문 기사들을 통해 그녀의 몸과 촉접하고 당시의 기록 들 이면에 담긴 내용들을 찾는 작업을 했다. 다음으로, 배구자의 춤과 관련한 다양한 자료들을 수집하여 배구자의 무용세계를 심도 있게 이해하고자 했다. 세 번째 단계에서 는 이러한 이해를 기반으로 배구자의 「사(死)의 백조」를 재구성하여 몸에서 경험하는 내적 체험을 유도해 내고자 했다. 이것은 당시의 배구자가 이 작품을 연기하면서 가졌을 내면적 체험, 신체적 경험 등을 공감하는 촉접의 과정이다. 촉접은 현재의 연구자가 과거의 배구자와 몸을 매개로 만나고 느끼는 작업이라 할 수 있다. 그렇기에 본 연구를 통해 기존에 피상적으로 알고 있던 배구자에 관해 보다 심도 있게 이해할 수 있었고, 기존의 역사가 언급하지 않았던 그녀에 관한 진실에 접근할 수 있었다. 「사(死)의 백조」는 배구자 자신을 작중에 투영한 작품으로 배구자는 죽어가는 백조를 통해 자신의 내면 을 표현하고자 했다. 고별 무대로 기획된 공연의 피날레 작품을 통해 그녀는 마지막 예술 혼을 불태웠다. 「사(死)의 백조」를 재구성하고 촉접하면서 공연 당시 배구자의 체험을 공감할 수 있었고 작품 자체도 새롭게 해석할 수 있었다. 촉접을 통한 역사 연구는 당시를 살았던 인물을 보다 입체적이고 깊이 있게 이해하도록 도와준다. 또한 역사에 대한 다양한 해석의 가능성을 제시하여 보다 개방적인 논의를 가능하게 한다. 본 연구자는 새로운 방식의 역사 연구가 한국무용사 기술 방법에도 긍정적인 영향을 미치길 바라며 더 다양한 연구의 필요성을 제기하는 바이다. 본 연구가 향후 관련 연구에 있어 작은 도움이 되었으면 한다.

The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understandingt of Bae Gu-ja by reconstructing her early work The Death of Swan. First, the contents behind the records of the era were identified through the examination of photo materials and newspaper articles in which Bae Gu-ja appeared. Then, various data related to Bae Gu-ja were collected in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the world of her dance. Lastly, Bae Gu-ja’s The Death of Swan was reconstructed to induce an inner experience, felt in the body. This is a process of empathizing with what Bae Gu-ja must have felt while performing The Death of Swan. The Death of Swan is an artwork in which Bae Gu-ja attempted to project herself and to express her inner self through a dying swan. While reconstructing and rewriting the performance, it was possible to reinterpret it and empathize with Bae Gu-ja’s experience. Furthermore, it also allows for the possibility of various interpretations of history, enabling a more open discussion. The objective of this study is to contribute to the Korean dance history description method by conducting a new type of historical research, and to highlight the need to conduct more diverse research.

리틀엔젤스예술단은 1962년 창단 이래로 한국의 대표적인 문화사절단의 하나로 자리매 김하였다. 올해로 창단 60주년을 맞이한 리틀엔젤스예술단의 대표적인 성과라고 한다면 다양한 무용 레퍼토리를 통해 우리 춤의 우수성을 국내외에 널리 알렸다는 데 있다. 본 논고의 목적은 이러한 무용 레퍼토리를 다각적으로 분석하여 무용 레퍼토리의 특징은 무엇인지를 연구하는 것이다. 이를 위해 창단 배경과 의의를 바탕으로 무용 레퍼토리의 개발 시기와 발표 현황을 정리하고 초기와 현재 레퍼토리의 구성 및 설명을 비교함으로 써 무용 레퍼토리의 역사적, 문화적, 예술적 가치를 확인한다. 연구의 결과로서 얻은 무용 레퍼토리의 특징은 문화사절단으로서 우리 고유의 레퍼토리 구축, 신무용 계열의 한국춤 창작, 가무악을 망라하는 범주, 군무 위주의 작품 구성, 프로그램 구성의 유연성, 어린이 예술단으로 학생들이 할 수 있는 춤사위 구사, 무용계를 이끄는 무용가들 을 배출한 교육적 효과, 안무가보다는 리틀엔젤스 레퍼토리라는 점을 부각, 저작권 문제 에서 비교적 자유로움, 시대에 맞는 레퍼토리 리뉴얼 작업 등으로 정리할 수 있다.

The Little Angels is one of the organizations that has served as a cultural delegation representing Korea since the barren art world of the 1960s and 1970s. One of the most outstanding achievements of the Little Angels, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, is the recognition of the excellence of our dance both domestically and internationally through a variety of dance repertoires. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the dance repertoire from various angles and to examine its characteristics. The characteristics of their dance repertoire include the establishment of our own repertoire as a cultural delegation, the creation of Korean dances based on New Dance, the development of categories encompassing both songs and dances, and the composition of works centered on group dances. Further, it is also characterized by the flexibility of program composition, the use of dance moves that students can perform, the educational effects that produced future leaders in the domain, the focus on the Little Angels repertoire rather than an individual choreographer, the relatively rare copyright issues, as well as the repertoire renewal appropriate to the current era. Through this research, it is possible to confirm the historical, cultural, and artistic significance of the dance repertoire that has been passed down over the past half century.

본 글은 춤꾼 이애주가 지켜 온 전통춤 「승무」, 「살풀이춤」, 「태평춤」의 전승적 가치를 조명하고, 그가 정치적 흐름 속에서 창안한 「땅끝」, 「나눔굿 밥」, 「도라지꽃」의 기획 의도 그리고 춤판 현장에 담긴 생명철학을 사회적 시각과 사상적 관점에서 살핀 것이다. 옛 전통과 시대적 창안을 오가며 무한히도 개전되었던 이애주의 춤 세계는 세기에 부응 하여 감흥의 날개를 펴고 민족의 춤으로 거듭났다. 가락에 흥과 멋을 얹어 신명에 거듭난 춤으로 불태웠고, 그 자태는 궁극에 달하여 예술로 승화되었다. 그 춤새가 혼돈에 처한 시국에 올라앉으니 그 또한 민주화를 울부짖는 바람맞이춤으로 승화되었다. 전통춤 계승 자로 그리고 민중의 희로애락을 풀어낸 시대의 바람맞이 춤꾼으로 우뚝 선 이애주는 우리 시대를 풍미한 춤꾼이다.

This article explores the philosophy of life contained in Lee Ae-ju’s dance and its theory from a critical perspective. I first discussed the planning intentions of the three works of Lee Ae-ju’s Creative Dance Ttangkkeut, Nanumgut bap, and Balloon Flower, as well as the view of life of her dance. Secondly, the traditional dances of Seungmu, Salpurichum, and Taepyeongchum were explained, and Lee Ae-ju's artistic life and dance worldview were examined. Finally, the meaning and nature of the Lee Ae-ju’s dance, intended to be expressed across traditional and creative dances, were identified and the philosophy of life within it was explored. An artist who has contributed significantly to the prosperity and development of Korean dance; an innovator who has steered her craft toward opening doors to a new world of creative positivity, Lee Ae-ju was such an artist. While traditional dance of the past and modern forms of creative dance have often been in conflict, Lee’s nationally designated dance has spread its wings defying a century of creative ideology. By adding excitement and style to the rhythm, her art has sublimated dance into a form that embraces rebirth with joy. Through her dance, she gave new life to the creative spark of her field and helped instilling hope for both freedom of expression and democratization.

본 연구는 진도씻김굿을 연행하는 지무(무녀)들의 각 가계를 중심으로 전승된 상황과 상호작용 및 계보를 규명하는데 목적이 있다. 연구방법으로 선행연구 및 자료를 문헌 고찰하였으며 이와 동시에 이를 확인하고 검증하는 관점에서 면담녹취를 병행하였다. 가계별 계보에 따른 연구의 대상은 세습무가인 박·강·함·채가의 지무를 중심으로 하였다. 진도씻김굿 세습무계 지무의 전승과정을 파악한 결과 현재 두 지류의 전승 상황이 파악 된다. 하나는 박가계 중심의 진도씻김굿보존회이고, 둘은 함가계이다. 보존회는 무계와 비무계를 구분하지 않고 다양한 전수자들을 수용하게 되어 세습이 아닌 교육을 통해 전수하는 체계를 갖추게 되었다. 함가계는 채정례 지무의 타계 후 제자인 강신무에 의해 전승되고 있다. 이러한 두 지류의 전승 상황으로 보았을 때 진도씻김굿은 더 이상 가계로 전승되는 세습무의 활동을 기대할 수 없는 것이 현실이다. 이렇듯 진도씻김굿의 세습무계는 시대적 변화와 전승의 부적합한 환경으로 인해 소멸위 기에 놓여 있다. 그나마 잔존해 있는 세습무가의 올곧은 계승과 보존을 위해 지무의 계보를 이해하고 원류를 찾는 것은 필요하며, 역사를 올바르게 수용하기 위해 다양한 분야의 연구는 계속 이루어져야 할 것이다.

This study aims to investigate the genealogy of succession in each household of woman shamans performing Jindo Ssitgimgut. A literature review was conducted to examine previous studies and data, and we conducted interviews in parallel to confirm and verify the findings from the literature review. This research focuses on the women shamans of the Park, Kang, Ham, and Chae families. Tracing back the transmission process of Jindo Ssitgimgut reveals two distinct succession patterns. Among the two is the Jindo Ssitgimgut Preservation Association, which is centered on Park's family, and the other is the Ham family. The Preservation Association accepted a variety of successors, both shamans and non-shamans, and established a method of passing them on through education rather than through hereditary descent. In the case of the Ham family, after the death of the shaman Chae Jeong-rye, a possessed shaman who was also a disciple of Chae became the successor. These two patterns suggest that Jindo Ssitgimgut cannot expect hereditary successions within the family to continue.Due to the change of times and unsuitable succession environment, the Jindo Ssitgimgut hereditary is on the verge of extinction. In order to ensure the proper succession and preservation of the existing hereditary dance, it is necessary to understand the genealogy of woman shamans.

무용극 「구가(九歌)」는 린 화이민(林懷民)의 중요한 작품이다. 「구가」는 중국 전통문화 를 기반으로 창작하였고 서양 현대 무용 기술을 활용하였으며 현대 무용의 사고방식을 통해 중국 전통문화를 구성하고 상호 융합한 특징을 갖고 있다. 본 연구는 이 작품 을 연구 대상으로, 문화 배경 및 동서양 융합 특징에 대해 여러 각도로 분석하였 다. 본 연구는 중국과 서양무용의 미학적 융합은 현대 무용의 발전을 촉진하는 데 매우 중요한 의미가 있으며 동아시아의 전통무용과 현대 무용의 연구에 매우 중요한 참고 가치를 지닌다.

Nine Songs is one of Lin Hwai-min’s most important works. As one of the features of Nine Songs, it combines traditional Chinese culture with western modern dance techniques and accepts the way of thinking of modern dance to create a fusion of traditional Chinese culture. In this study, the work Nine Songs serves as the research object, and various perspectives are used to analyze the cultural background and the fusion of East and West in this work. In addition to serving as a valuable reference for the study of the fusion of traditional dance with modern one in East Asia, this research is of great significance in expressing the aesthetic fusion of Chinese and Western dance in order to promote modern dance development.

본 연구는 질 들뢰즈(G. Deleuze, 1925~1995)의 ‘차이(différence)’ 개념을 바탕으로 차수정의 작품 「淸, The Blue 바다를 열다」(2021)를 분석하여 한국 창작춤에서의 죽음과 삶의 철학을 발견하고자 했다. 들뢰즈의 차이 개념을 적용하면 「淸, The Blue 바다를 열다」에서 나타나는 바다라는 장소는 죽음이 아닌 생명력이며 삶에 대한 용기 그 자체이다. 본 연구는 죽음을 통과해 진정한 삶의 의미를 다시 생성하는 들뢰즈의 차이 개념과 무용예술의 접점을 살피며 인문학적 사유의 공간으로서 춤의 확장된 해석의 잠재성을 발견하고자 했다. 또한 한국.고전문학의 재해석을 통해 청의 죽음과 바다라는 상징적 장소를 의미화하기 위해 「淸, The Blue 바다를 열다」작품에서 보여준 무용예술 요소의 관계를 분석함으로써 한국 창작 춤의 표현의 가능성을 고찰한다는데 의미를 가진다.

Based on the concept of "différence" proposed by Deleuze, the purpose of this study is to explore the philosophy of ‘creation and extinction’ in Korean creative dance through an analysis of Cha Soo jung's piece 淸, Open the Blue Sea(2021). Applying Deleuze’s notion of différence to this piece, the sea in 淸, Open the Blue Sea is not the place of death, but of life, and courage for life. Consequently, this study discovers the potential of expanded interpretation of dance as a space for humanities and thoughts by examining its association with the concept of différence, which re-generates the true meaning of life through death. Further, it is essential to examine the possibilities of expression within Korean creative dance by analyzing how dance art elements are connected in the work 淸, Open the Blue Sea to symbolize the place of Cheong's death and the sea through a reinterpretation of Korean classical literature.

본 논문은 연구자의 무용작품 「사이의 여백」의 창작에서 공연까지의 전 과정을 분석한 연구이다. 「사이의 여백」은 2020년 초 코로나19로 사회적 거리두기가 시행되던 시점에 안무한 작품으로 사람 간의 소통에 변화와 혼란을 준 ‘공간적 거리’가 주제이다. 본 연구를 통해 사회적 담론을 다루는 무용작품에 실기기반 연구방법론을 적용하여 비가시 적 영역인 인간의 거리 감각에 기반한 상호 소통의 과정을 분석하고자 했다. 본 연구는 포스트 코로나 시대에도 지속될 인간의 공간적 거리 문제를 이해하고 얻은 지혜를 전할 수 있다는 점에 의미가 있다. 또한 코로나19로 세계적 전환기를 맞이한 지금, 공간의 거리두기라는 화두로 인간의 본질적인 관계를 성찰할 수 있게 하고, 거리두 기에 대한 담론을 무용작품으로 공연하고 연구했다는 점에 의미가 있다. 이에 본 연구가 후속 안무자들에게 삶과 무용예술을 통섭적으로 사고하여 포스트 코로나 시대를 현명하 게 대비할 수 있는 작은 사례가 되기를 바란다.

This paper examines the entire process of creating and performing the author's dance piece The Void Space Between with a them of ‘spatial distance’, which was performed during the period of social distancing caused by COVID-19 in early 2020. This study analyzes the process of mutual communication based on human perception of distance, which is an invisible area, by applying practical research methodology to dance works that deal with social issues. Study findings contribute to understanding the problem of human spatial distance that will persist even in the post-COVID-19 era. As we move towards a global transition following COVID-19, it is important for us to reflect on the essential relationship between humans through the lens of space distancing. In addition, it is significant to note that the discussion of spatial distancing has been performed and studied as a form of dance. This study will provide follow-up choreographers with a small indication of how to wisely prepare for the post-corona era by thinking about life and art in an integral way.
