Purpose: This study was performed to identify the impact of aggressiveness of patients and a sense of coherence on posttraumatic stress in psychiatric nurses. Methods: After collecting data from 162 psychiatric nurses, we carried out a t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using IBM SPSS Statistics 19.0. Results: The mean score of posttraumatic stress was 20.75±16.59 points. Verbal aggression, aggressiveness about property, aggression toward oneself, and aggression toward others had a positive correlation with posttraumatic stress, while a sense of coherence had a negative correlation with post-traumatic stress. It was concluded that the significant predictors of posttraumatic stress in psychiatric nurses were aggression toward oneself, a sense of coherence, and aggression toward others, all of which accounted for 38.9% of the variability. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the factors influencing posttraumatic stress in psychiatric nurses were aggression toward oneself, aggression toward others, and a sense of coherence. Therefore, education programs should be developed in consideration of the fact that aggressive behavior against the patient himself and against others intensify the posttraumatic stress of the psychiatric nurse, but the integration force mitigates it.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between work-related characteristics and job stressors and the factors influencing musculoskeletal symptoms of the warehouse employees. Methods: The research was a cross-sectional, descriptive study. Data were collected from 319 warehouse employees who agreed to participate in the study by using self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, x2-test, and logistic regression analysis (SPSS 18.0). Results: The overall prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms was 37.6%. The logistic regression analysis revealed a posture that renders fatigue or pain, repetitive work, and a higher total score of job stressors as the risk factors for musculoskeletal symptoms in many body parts. Conclusion: Employers should plan to educate employees who work in warehouses about the correct working posture to prevent musculoskeletal diseases, stop repetitive work, and manage job stressors.

Purpose: The purpose of this descriptive, cross-sectional study was to identify the factors affecting health-related quality of life by examining the relationships among posttraumatic stress, health-related work limitations, and family support in firefighters. Methods: The data were collected from 390 firefighters working in four fire stations located in the G district using self-report questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA along with the Scheffé test, and multiple regression. Results: As per the results of multiple regression analysis, the factors affecting health-related quality of life in firefighters were posttraumatic stress, health-related work limitations, and family support. This model explained 31% of the variance in health- related quality of life (F=30.03, p<.001). Conclusion: Considering the findings of this study, there is a need to reduce posttraumatic stress and health-related work limitations and develop family support toward firefighters.

보건소 직원이 지각하는 서비스지향성이 조직몰입과 경영성과에 미치는 영향

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of service orientation on the organizational commitment and management performance of public health center workers. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used. A convenience sample of 280 workers was recruited from six public health centers in J province, South Korea. Data were collected by self-report questionnaires, including general characteristics, service orientation, organizational commitment, and management performance. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and hierarchical regression using the SPSS 22.0 program. Results: The service orientations explained 34.1%of the variance in organizational commitment and explained 31.4% of the variance in management performance. The service orientation was a significant predictor of organizational commitment and management performance. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that better strategies for service orientations will be helpful to enhance organizational commitment and management performance in the public health center.

Purpose: This review aimed to integrate the results of studies related to presenteeism in clinical nurses and to suggest directions for future research. Methods: The search for relevant studies was conducted using six data bases according to predetermined index terms, “nurs*” and “presenteeism.” Thirteen studies that met the inclusion criteria were selected and analyzed. Results: This review found that the conceptual use and scope of presenteeism were not consistent among the studies. Most studies investigated the nurses' health-related variables as the most important factors and reported their positive association with presenteeism. Presenteeism was also found to be associated with job stress, job satisfaction, social support, and organizational culture and had a negative impact on nursing outcomes such as patient safety. Conclusion: The research on presenteeism can be used as a way to explain outcomes in the field of nursing where direct measurement of productivity is difficult. Presenteeism is a multidimensional problem, and a theoretical foundation is needed to explain the presenteeism of clinical nurses.

제조업체 근로자의 직무요구와 상사-부하 교환관계 및 직무 스트레스 회복경험이 직무착근도에 미치는 영향

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate factors affecting the job embeddedness of workers in the manufacturing industry. Methods: The survey was conducted on 261 workers of the manufacturing industry in P city and Y city with the help of a structured self-report questionnaire, administered between June 10 and June 30, 2017. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, a t-test, ANOVA, a Scheffés test, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: There were significant differences in job embeddedness according to educational level, marital status, jobs and types of employment, satisfaction with salary, stress level, and the perceived health status of the subjects. There were significant positive correlations between role clarity of job demands (r=.45), leader member exchange (r=.48), recovery experience from job stress (r=.27), and job embeddedness. From the multiple regression analysis, the most significant factors affecting job embeddedness were found to be leader member exchange (β=.43), recovery experience from job stress (β=.22), and job demand (β=.15). These variables explained 35.0% of the total variance in job embeddedness. Conclusion: In order to increase job embeddedness of workers in the manufacturing industry, it is necessary to prepare measures to increase job demand, leader member exchange, and recovery experience from job stress.

Purpose: We investigated the effects of emotional labor and workplace violence on various physical and mental health outcomes among female workers. Methods: We obtained data from 24,760 female workers who participated in the 4th Korean Working Conditions Survey (2014). Hierarchical logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the relationships. Results: Female emotional workers were more exposed to workplace violence than were female non-emotional workers. Verbal abuse was the most common type of workplace violence. Logistic regression analyses revealed that (1) emotional labor was significantly associated with higher odds of having musculoskeletal or abdominal pain (physical health outcomes), along with overall fatigue (a mental health outcome), and (2) workplace violence experiences were significantly associated with higher odds of musculoskeletal pain, headache/eye strain, abdominal pain, depression/anxiety disorder, overall fatigue, and insomnia/sleep disturbance, after controlling for covariates. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that both emotional labor and workplace violence have negative effects on physical and mental health. However, workplace violence experience has a stronger negative impact on health outcomes than does emotional labor alone. A management system to eradicate workplace violence and programs aimed at managing emotional labor are urgently needed at the organizational level.

간호사의 직장 내 괴롭힘 경험에 따른 조직문화, 조직몰입의 비교

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationship among nurses' workplace bullying experience, organizational culture, and organizational commitment. Methods: Nurses who had worked for more than 6 months (N=299) were selected from 5 general hospitals. Data were collected from August to September 2014, using a self- reported questionnaire, and were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. Results: Among the participants, 17.7% reported having experienced workplace bullying. Those who had experienced workplace bullying reported significantly lower relation-oriented culture, innovation-oriented culture, and organizational commitment as compared to the other group (t=-2.50, p=.016; t=-2.60, p=.011; t=-2.91, p=.004, respectively). Rank-oriented culture was higher in those who had experienced workplace bullying as compared to those who had not (t=2.76, p=.007). Conclusion: Those who had experienced workplace bullying had higher scores on rank-oriented culture and lower scores on innovation- oriented culture, relation-oriented culture, and organizational commitment. To reduce workplace bullying among nurses, hospital managers should improve the relation-oriented organizational culture and alleviate the rank-oriented culture.
