Characteristics for the growth and yield of Pleurotus ostreatus by air velocity

This study was carried out to investigate optimum wind velocity for growth of Pleurotus ostreatus. In the chamber experiments, the divergence of pileus was 63° in 0.3m/s, and it showed the tendency that the more the air velocity was increased, the more the divergence became small. And the ratio of commercial yields was 96% in the air velocity of 0.3m/s. In the cultivation room experiments, the divergence of pileus was 64° in 0.3m/s, and it was the tendency that the more the air velocity was fast, the more the divergence became larger. And the commercial yields was similar to the trend of the chamber experiment as 94.8% in 0.3m/s, and the quality characteristics of the fruit-body showed the uniform quality in comparison with other treatment because the standard deviation of the size of the pileus, etc. was the lowest in 0.3m/s like the chamber experiment.
Effects of oyster mushroom as a feed addictive in juvenile cherry salmon

Our research on juvenile Oncorhynchus masou masou in oyster mushroom supplemented diet was studied to investigate the effect of feeding. Mixing of feed ingredients for dried oyster mushrooms, 3.5, 7.0, 10.5, 14.0 (%) was added to the amount of oyster mushroom dietary beta-glucan content of the more abundant. After the weight of feed given to salmon survey oyster mushrooms diet for 3.5 to 7.0% was similar to the formula feed and the weight of the fish ate oyster mushroom feed over 10.5% were reduced. The oyster mushroom of the experimental diets containing 3.5 to 7.0 percent hepatosomatic index and feed coefficient figure was similar to those of the formulated diets. Therefore we have juvenile cherry salmon fed diets containing 3.5 to 7.0% was considered good to eat and additional research on the immune response will be carried out was necessary.

Agrocybe spp. belongs to the Agaricales order, Bolbitiaceae family, and Agrocybe genus. In Korea, so far, it has been cultivated through bottle cultivation; therefore, this study was conducted for the development of a new cultivar using the bag cultivation method for quantitative improvement. Thirty-three gene resources of Agrocybe spp. were collected and their quantity and characteristics of bag cultivation were examined. Next, 5 kinds of crossing parents were selected based on the cultivation period and shape of the fruit body. Seven strains were selected through 3 cross combinations. The 7 selected strains and the comparative cultivar ‘Cham’ were cultivated in a bag. As a result, the cultivation period was 49 days for ‘JBAC15-1’ and 50 days for ‘JBAC15-6’ which are 4 days and 3 days less than the cultivation period of the comparative cultivar ‘Cham’(53 days), respectively. Cultivation periods of other strains except for ‘JBAC15-1’ and ‘JBAC15-1’ were longer than that of the comparative cultivar‘Cham’. The best ratio of primordia formation among the selected strains was found to be that of ‘JBAC15-1’ with 96.1% followed by ‘JBAC15-6’ with 94.5%. These rates were 3.1% and 1.5% higher than the ratio of primordia formation of the comparative cultivar ‘Cham’, which is found to be 93.0%. The quantity was maximum in the ‘JBAC15-1’ cultivar with 176.8 g per bag followed by ‘JBAC15-6’ with 168.7 g per bag. The quantities were 10% and 5% more than the comparative cultivar ‘Cham’ with 160.7 g per bag. Based on these results, ‘JBAC15-1’ and ‘JBAC15-6’, which had shorter cultivation periods and more quantities than the comparative cultivar ‘Cham’ were finally selected. For the selected strains of ‘JBAC15-1’ and ‘JBAC15-6’, mycelial growth was observed to be optimal on PDA medium and the optimum temperature was 27.5oC. The optimum pH was pH 5 for ‘JBAC15-1’ and pH 6 for ‘JBAC15-6’. The color of the pileus of the fruit body was dark brown in ‘JBAC15-1’ and ‘Cham’ and light brown in ‘JBAC15-6’. The pileus was hemispherical in shape in both ‘JBAC15-1’ and ‘Cham’. However, the colors of the stem were different - light brown in ‘JBAC15-1’, white in ‘JBAC15-6’, and ivory in the comparative cultivar ‘Cham’.

The present study was conducted to investigate the synergistic effects caused by single and co-inoculation of the phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB), Paraburkholderia phenazinium YH3 and Paraburkholderia metrosideri YH4. Phosphate solubilization was assessed by measuring the phosphorus contents for 7 days in a single and co-inoculation medium. Coinoculation of the two strains was found to release the highest content of soluble phosphorus (1,250 μg mL-1) into the medium, followed by the single inoculation of P. metrosideri YH4 (1196.59 μg mL-1) and P. phenazinium YH3 (994.34 μg mL-1). The highest pH reduction, organic acid production and glucose consumption was also observed in the co-inoculation medium of the two strains. A plant growth promotion bioassay revealed that co-inoculation with the two strains enhanced the growth of romaine lettuce more than single inoculation with either of the two strains (28.5% for leaf and 16.6% for root). Although there was no significant difference between single and co-inoculation of bacterial strains in terms of phosphorous release and plant growth, the synergistic effects of co-inoculation with PSB could be beneficial for crop growth.

This study was carried out to analyze the physiological activities of wild mushroom extracts collected from the Gangwon-do, Gyeonggi-do, and Chungcheongbuk-do provinces in Korea. Among the wild mushroom extracts, those of Clitocybe robusta and Leucopaxillus giganteus (OK829) showed the highest DPPH radical scavenging activities. Nitrite scavenging activity of the L. giganteus extract (OK811) was determined to be 64.1%, which is considerably higher than those of the other mushroom extracts analyzed in this study. The total polyphenol levels in Suillus granulatus, L. giganteus (OK829), and Amanita manginiana extracts were found to be 19.7 mg GAE/g, 20.2 mg GAE/g, and 22.3 mg GAE/g, respectively. To determine their antiinflammatory effects, nitric oxide production, and cell viability, NO measurement and MTT assays were performed using lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated RAW 264.7 cells. The levels of nitric oxide (NO) produced by the C. robusta and Hypholoma fasciculare extracts were remarkably lower than those produced by the others. In our MTT assay, the extracts of S. granulatus, L. giganteus (OK811), and Lactarius chrysorrheus showed high cell viabilities of 40.3%, 48.3%, and 43.2%, respectively. These results can provide the fundamental data for extracting useful compounds from wild mushrooms.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the physiological activities of hot-water and 70% ethanol extracts of three edible mushroom species (Auricularia auricula, Tremella fuciformis, and Lentinus edodes) cultivated in Korea and China. The DPPH radical scavenging activities of hot-water extracts of Korean A. auricula, T. fuciformis, and L. edodes were significantly higher than those of the Chinese counterparts (p < 0.01). However, the nitrite scavenging activities of the hot-water extracts did not significantly differ among the mushrooms regardless of their origins. Chinese A. auricula showed the highest nitrite scavenging activity in the ethanol extract. The total polyphenol contents of the ethanol extracts of the three edible mushroom species from both of the countries were higher than those of the hot-water extracts. Korean A. auricula and T. fuciformis yielded a high polyphenol content with hot-water extraction. The ?-glucan contents of the Chinese A. auricula, T. fuciformis, and L. edodes extracts were 20.49%, 31.43%, and 30.09%, respectively, which were higher than those of the Korean counterparts. From the results of this study, it can be deduced that the maximum yield of nutritional ingredients can be extracted by using the optimal solvent for each mushroom species. These results are expected to be useful in appreciating the difference among extracts of Korean and Chinese edible mushrooms in terms of their physiological activities in the solvents used.
