This study examines the changes in residential areas and housing patterns around Gimpo Airport, focusing on the impacts of its construction and expansion, from the establishment of a military airfield during the Japanese colonial period to its transformation into a logistics hub during the U.S. military period, and ultimately becoming Gimpo International Airport. The rural society, which had engaged in agriculture as a family and kinship-based community in the expansive Gimpo Plain since the Joseon Dynasty, gradually urbanized through repeated migrations. The changes in housing near Gimpo Airport reflect the convergence of factors such as the construction of national infrastructure, rapid industrialization, and urbanization. As a key case study, this paper traces Mr. Jeong’s residential movement, offering a detailed account of how local residents adapted to evolving housing policies over time. Mr. Jeong’s journey, from a hanok to a single-family home, a multi-family home, and finally to an apartment, exemplifies the broader transformation in the living environments of Gonghang-dong.

Due to the influence of Corona, the house has been changed to various spaces such as self-treatment, home work, and home training in addition to living. The purpose of this study was to examine housing trends after COVID-19. And we investigated examples of houses that considered a natural healing environment. The conclusion is summarized as follows: In the field of architecture, ‘Naturopathy environment’ is a specialized design of a physical, psychological, and social space where residents can defend themselves from the dangers of viruses and diseases and heal naturally. After COVID-19, people demand various activity spaces such as hobbies, rest, and exercise in their houses. And there is a tendency to demand safer residential spaces such as quarantine, disinfection, and ventilation. There are five types of cases. ① The front door has added a for quarantine functions(basin, bathroom, sterilizing equipment) to prevent the virus. ② There is a work space in the house where you can work from home and also a self-isolation space. ③ The variable walls inside the house can expand two spaces, allowing for various activities. ④ Houses can be largely divided into private life areas and work areas. ⑤ In order to reduce contact with others, this type expands the balcony and specially designs the landscaping space of the apartment complex.

This study examined the operation and facility changes of the Institute for Rural Health, which was established to provide medical and health care in rural areas of Jeollabuk-do from 1935 to the 1960s, and its founder, Dr. Lee Young-chun, based on records. The research institute, established for the purpose of providing medical care and hygiene to farmers in Jeollabuk-do, began in 1935 when Lee Young-chun opened a clinic as a farm doctor. The time when a separate corporation was established as a research institute to seriously promote medical care and hygiene was 1942, as can be seen from records from that time. However, the above plan was not realized at the time for various reasons, and after liberation, due to insufficient financial support, it was launched as the Institute for Rural Health in 1948. The Institute for Rural Health, established in 1948, continuously expanded its facilities to achieve its founding purpose. These facilities can be divided into the Ungbon Farm, the US military government (Shinhan Corporation), the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, depending on the entity that subsidized the operating expenses of the institute. However, the Institute for Rural Health was excluded from the operation of the Seagrave Hospital, which was established with the Korea-America Foundation in the 1970s, due to debt borrowed to supplement operating expenses after 1956, and thereafter lost its actual medical and sanitation activities.

This study analyzed whether there is a difference in life satisfaction between the elderly living in apartments and the elderly living in single-family homes. In addition, it analyzed what factors affect the overall life satisfaction in old age and how these factors differ depending on the housing type. The subjects of this study are the elderly living in Daejeon and Chungcheong regions, who are 65 years of age or older and were sampled using a probability sampling method. Data were collected using the 2020 Elderly Survey conducted regularly by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, there were more elderly people living in apartments in urban areas and more elderly people living in single-family homes in rural areas. However, no significant difference was found between urban and rural areas in terms of life satisfaction in old age. Second, no statistically significant difference was found in life satisfaction between the elderly living in single-family homes and those living in apartments. Third, it was found that economic status and regional environment were factors that greatly influenced life satisfaction for both the elderly living in single-family homes and the elderly living in apartments. Finally, it was found that the frequency of contact with neighbors and friends had a greater impact on the life satisfaction of the elderly than the frequency of contact with children.

The purpose of this study, we tried to derive problems and implications for future improvement by analyzing the physical characteristics of extension and renovation to improve the settlement environment due to the old age of rural houses and understanding the current status of rural houses. In this study, literature research, prior research analysis, and field research were conducted to analyze the physical characteristics of rural housing retirement patterns and performance improvement. This study attempted to derive the current problems of rural housing and implications for future improvement by analyzing the physical characteristics of extension and renovation to improve the settlement environment in four villages near Jangdong-myeon, Jangheung-gun. The basic pension was the highest as a major source of income for householders in rural and fishing villages, because most of the four villages had a large number of elderly people who could not engage in agriculture. The proportion of residential and vacant houses over 30 years old was investigated to be high. As for the housing structure, it was analyzed that the higher the soil in the wood structure and wall material, and the higher the probability of vacant houses becoming vacant as the wood structure and wall material are cement blocks. An average of 20% of the space expansion was carried out to improve the residential environment of the target house. In terms of space composition ratio, 14% of individual spaces and 40.2% of common spaces accounted for the largest portion of houses with 45.8% of attached spaces, and among the attached spaces, the warehouse space, which is a storage space, was the largest and the largest number of extensions. In the target farming and fishing village houses, there was a lot of renovation of the roof due to leakage, and secondary repairs such as plating and floorboards were additionally carried out due to mold generation due to leakage. In addition, in order to solve the insulation problem, a double window replacement from a single window and an insulation material was added to the wall, resulting in a form of renovation using a material different from the existing wall material. Since durability due to aging is not guaranteed, a number of temporary repair cases have been confirmed by partial improvement.

In Korea during the enlightenment period, there were very active changes in almost all areas that made up the era, including politics, economy, society, and culture, and these changes were no exception in the religious field. This study aims to identify the characteristics of architectural elements of compromising style of Korean traditional cathedral architecture, especially in the case of Nabawi Cathedral, a representative compromising style of Korean traditional cathedral, which appeared in the early 1900s during the introduction of Western architecture to Korea. The results found in this study are as follows. First, in the case of the exterior of the building, despite being a Korean traditional building, the intention to pursue the Western style is very strong, and this trend can be found especially in bell towers planned as brick structures in front of the building and outer corridors on the side. Second, in the case of the Presbytery, it is faithful to the essential function of the space where worship takes place by having a spatial hierarchy that is clearly distinguished from the space of Nave. In particular, in the case of the space where the Presbytery is located, the Presbytery has no pillars in the center but two left and right pillars are planned, and a triumphal arch is formed between these pillars, preventing distractions from the vision toward the altar and separating the space between the Presbytery and the Nave. Third, in the case of Nave, rather than the formal demands of religious facilities, it is planned to be very faithful to the original function for worship. This is well reflected in the vertical axis of the interior plan of the building, the meaning of the column in the center, and the very practical functionality of the arrangement of the choir. Religious architecture is influenced by the ideas and cultures of that time and continues to develop as a result and adapt to solve them. The compromising Korean traditional Cathedral is our own valuable architectural asset that shows this trend very well.
