This study observes how individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can access religion and arrive at a Christian awareness of God and religious experience. To this end, the study examines the authenticity of their religious experiences by considering the specific characteristics of individuals with ASD. Since individuals with ASD often face difficulties in cognitive abilities and comprehension processes, how they perceive God and participate in religious experiences can be considered in conjunction with human religious attributes. Individuals with developmental disabilities not only experience difficulties in linguistic comprehension and emotional expression but also possess a wide spectrum of developmental disorders. Consequently, the ways in which they perceive God and engage in religious experiences can vary, and they often face limitations in accepting abstract concepts or religious doctrines in terms of cognitive ability and interpersonal communication. However, individuals with ASD are human beings created in the image of God and are human beings identical to non-disabled individuals who receive God's revelation and love. From this perspective, the awareness of God and religious experiences of individuals with ASD cannot be judged as insufficient. They can interact and communicate with the faith community through various elements, and discover the meaning and value of faith within the community. Individuals with autism spectrum disorder perceive God through divine revelation and religious experiences concerning the soul, and approach a faith that accepts divine reality in the present. In other words, the perception of God by individuals with autism spectrum disorder is made possible through religious experiences guided by divine revelation, and they access this experience of faith through the faith community with a sense of relational stability and peace.

This study addresses the persistent dichotomy between exegesis and application, a long-standing challenge in contemporary homiletics. It seeks to overcome this divide from a theological and linguistic-philosophical perspective by proposing a direction for expository preaching grounded in the "speech acts of the Holy Spirit." Existing proposition-centered preaching has severely weakened textuality by treating the Bible as a static repository of doctrinal propositions or information. Conversely, the New Homiletics, emerging as a reaction to such tendencies, has often leaned toward the existential experiences and emotional empathy of the audience, thereby marginalizing the sovereign intention embedded in the biblical text. In response, this study adopts the speech act theory of John L. Austin and John Searle to establish that the biblical text, beyond simple locution (the delivery of information), functions as an illocutionary act—an utterance that performs a specific divine action. Furthermore, this study argues that preaching must function as a "re-illocutionary act," through which the preacher reenacts and performs the biblical text’s illocutionary force for a contemporary audience. By integrating the Reformed theological perspective on the Word and the Spirit, this study systematizes a theory of preaching as "the speech act of the Holy Spirit," in which the Spirit preserves the illocutionary force of the written text and achieves perlocutionary effects through the preacher's proclamation, effectively bridging the gap between biblical interpretation and homiletical application.

The integration of Generative AI into sermon preparation raises fundamental questions about the essence of preaching and the preacher's identity. This study examines AI's capabilities through prompt engineering demonstrations and theologically redefines the preacher's role using Phillips Brooks' homiletics. Using John 3:16-17, this study conducted a three-step AI sermon generation: simple instruction, narrative plot application, and audience exegesis targeting 50-60-year-old housewives. Results show that sophisticated prompts enable AI to imitate structural logic (logos) and rhetorical empathy (pathos) effectively, without evident exegetical errors. However, this output is merely a "mechanized mirror" reflecting the human preacher's hermeneutical intervention, not genuine empathy. Based on Brooks' concept of "Truth through Personality," AI texts fundamentally lack spiritual struggle and pastoral compassion. Ultimately, transforming an AI draft into a vital Gospel event requires the living preacher's personal mediation. Preachers must cultivate their character as conduits of truth rather than relying solely on technological convenience.

Pilate is still trying to release Jesus in John 19:12 (ἐζήτει), but by 19:16 he has handed him over (παρέδωκεν). I take the distance between these verbs as the entry point for reading John 18:28–19:16a. Rather than treating Pilate’s repeated crossings of the praetorium as scenery or personality, I examine how movement, verbal aspect, Lithostrotos, and the Passover time markers work together. Historical-grammatical exegesis and narrative analysis establish the textual observations; Bakhtin’s chronotope then relates time, space, action, and value. The contrast between ἐζήτει and παρέδωκεν exposes the gap between attempted release and final action, which comes into public focus in 19:13–15 as place, time, judgment, and competing claims of kingship converge. Homiletically, I move from three textual moments—purity and judgment in 18:28, self-preservation in 19:12, and allegiance in 19:15—to contemporary questions of performance, pressure, digital reaction, and social acceleration. I call this spatiotemporal recontextualization. The sermon follows the narrative rhythm so that the congregation encounters not a new homiletical genre, but John’s disclosure of human judgment and the kingship of Jesus.

This study, as part of an ongoing research project on ethical preaching, explores the notion of “otherness,” which ethical preaching must not overlook. Otherness offers important ethical concepts and insights for the development of ethical preaching. The purpose of engaging otherness in this study is not to employ it as a means of reinforcing the ethical content of sermons or urging particular forms of ethical practice. Rather, through the homiletical appropriation of otherness, this study seeks to elucidate the homiletical implications for cultivating in preachers and congregations a spiritual sensitivity and disposition of faith(habitus) that enable them first to attend to the voice of the gospel and then to respond responsibly to the existential claims made upon them by the Other. To this end, the study first examines philosophical reflections on otherness. It explores the structure of the recognition of otherness and its practical significance through Simone Weil’s concepts of “attention” and “decreation (décréation),” and Emmanuel Levinas’s concepts of “the face of the Other” and “responsibility.” Although these philosophical reflections provide an important foundation for ethical preaching, their homiletical appropriation requires a mediating framework capable of connecting philosophy and homiletics. Therefore, this study focuses on Edward Farley’s understanding of the relationship between theology and a enduring theological habitus that shapes the life of faith. Farley’s view of theology not simply as a system of knowledge but as practical wisdom and a habitus that forms the life of faith provides a theological mediation through which philosophical reflections on otherness may be appropriated within homiletics. On this basis, the study argues that an important purpose of ethical preaching is not merely to evoke a momentary recognition of otherness or to call for particular actions, but to cultivate an enduring habitus of faith characterized by attention and responsibility toward the Other. The central argument of this study is not that ethical preaching should simply incorporate attention, listening, and responsibility toward the Other into the content of sermons. Rather, it seeks to reconsider the very purpose and practice of preaching as the formation of the modes of existence and practical dispositions of faith of both preachers and congregations. Accordingly, this study understands ethical preaching as a formative process through which otherness becomes firmly embedded within theology and the practical dispositions of faith, and it offers practical proposals for realizing this homiletical vision.

This study explores ways to rediscover the theological and sacramental value of "water," the primary medium of Christian initiation rites. It seeks to embody this value within the liturgical structure in response to an era marked by deepening relational divisions among humans and fractures between humanity and nature. Prevailing understandings of baptism have often focused on individual inward grace or ethical resolve, overshadowing its relational and communal dimensions. To overcome this limitation, this study proposes the "memory of water" as a theological and ecological lens. This concept organically integrates the physical reality of hydrology’s "closed hydrological system," Tertullian’s theology of water, and the premise that "memory is an act of love." Water on Earth does not perish; it continuously circulates. Carrying redemptive-historical memories—Creation, the Exodus, Christ’s baptism in the Jordan, and the Crucifixion—it enters our baptismal waters and physical bodies today. The true agent pervading this "memory of water" is not the element itself, but the Holy Spirit. Through the work of the Spirit, baptism using water as a medium signifies an ontological transition: embodying the memory of grace regarding Christ’s creation and redemption to be reborn as a sacramentum. Based on these theological reflections, this study articulates practical alternatives for worship settings. These include spatial arrangements as well as the fourfold liturgical structure (Gathering–Word–Table–Sending). Positioning the baptismal font prominently alongside the pulpit at the front-center of the sanctuary creates a visible liturgical axis. This axis integrates the proclaimed Word, the seal of baptism, and the unity of the Eucharist. Furthermore, the symbolic circulation of baptismal water confirms the believers' ontological oneness with the human Other in Christ. It also impels them to fulfill their mission as ecological stewards who care for the waters of the created world. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that the Church is a sacramental community that gathers through water, listens through water, feeds upon water, and ultimately becomes the water of the world to heal all creation.
