The purpose of this study was to investigate whether paid work time desynchronization affected housework time desynchronization. Time slot data from the Korean Time Use Survey data from 2014 was analyzed. This study included 1,475 married couples aged 20 to 59. They were dual-earner couples, heterosexual couples, and both partners worked during the day, either durong the week or on the weekend. The data was analyzed by the following four groups: weekday-husband, weekday-wife, and weekend-husband, weekend-wife. The results demonstrated that as the desynchronization of paid work increased, the desynchronization of time spent on housework in the weekday-husband and weekend-husband groups also increased. Second, the amount of leisure time did not affect the desynchronization of time spent on housework. Lastly, the amount of time that one person spent on housework increased the housework time desynchronization level. In addition, if the family had children who attended primary, middle, or high school-mothers in the weekday-wife group completed more housework. These results demonstrated that paid work time desynchronization might be a way to decrease the amount of time that dual-earner wives’ spent housework.

This study examined whether family-friendly policies at work moderate the association between fathers’ gender role attitudes and their affectionate parenting behaviors. The data was derived from the Panel Study of Korean Children. The samples included 1,164 fathers who participated in the seventh and eighth panel studies. To analyze the data, Pearson’s correlations, multi-regression, and simple slope analysis were conducted using SPSS 25.0 and PROCESS Macro. The key findings of the study were as follows: Among family-friendly policies, the paternity leave and a flexible work system moderated the association between gender role attitudes and affectionate parenting behavior. Such family-friendly policies strengthened fathers’ affectionate parenting, and gender role attitudes tended to be egalitarian in this case. The results of the present study showed that fathers’ affectionate parenting behavior reflected their egalitarian gender role attitudes and particularly emphasized the importance of the role of family-friendly policies in providing fathers with autonomous time use.

This study aims to provide basic resources for the construction of the archives on the official family service history in Korea. The study collected records of family policies and official family service from 1948 to 2019 and thereafter attempted to classify the official family service. In addition, experts were consulted to diagnose compliance with research contents and directions, investigate priorities of the family policies, and provide opinions on the elements of each process of archiving. The results of this study were as follows. First, there were five areas of concern to be considered in the process of establishing an archive of official family services: concept, scope, collection, arrangement, preservation, and utilization. Second, the findings suggest which processes are critical to developing a sustainable and systematic archive system for the official family service history. The construction of the archives will provide a platform for understanding the contents of integrated family policies and inform the direction of future family policies in Korea. In addition, these archives will be an important factor in building a solid Korean national identity.
