This study was aimed at exploring the differences in time use and time famine among college students ages 18 to 29, with a focus on gender and employment status, and to investigate the determinants of time famine. Data were from the 2014 Time Use Survey by the Korea National Statistical Office. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, t-test, and logistic regression were used for the statistical analyses. The major findings are as follows. First, the employed spend significantly more time on work and less time studying than the unemployed, and females spend significantly more time on household work and less time on leisure than males. Second, employed students had higher levels of time famine than unemployed students. Third, irrespective of employment status, the education level of students' parents was identified as a determinant of time famine. Other determinants of time famine were age, job, work, and study time for employed students and gender, income, household work, and leisure time for unemployed students.

The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of wivesʼ economic contributions and sex-role attitudes on couplesʼ decision-making for use in family education and to improve stable couple relationships. This study targeted 286 married women who have a child or children. The main results of this study indicate that almost half of the participants showed that their couple decision-making, economic resource contributions and sex-role attitudes were husbanddominated. Additionally, the participantsʼ most modern sex-role attitudes were toward gender stereotypes, though the most conservative attitudes were toward women and menʼs household lives. The variables that distinguished between husband-dominated and equality couples were age, education level, spouse's average income and resource evaluation; related, age, education level, spouseʼs average income, contribution toward household management and the occupational life of the woman were the variables that distinguished between husbanddominated and wife-dominated couples. This study also revealed the variables that affect couples decision- making, demonstrating the necessity of considering several variables in the approach to the decision-making process of individual couples.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of perceptions of work and family life on employee job satisfaction and to form a policy approach that contributes to the enhancement of worker satisfaction. In particular, we wanted to analyze how the characteristics of each variable appeared in industry groups with different gender ratios of workers. A notable point of the study was that the respondents who answered that work and family had similar importance were satisfied with their working conditions. In addition, it was found that the higher an employee’s evaluation of the work-family reconciliation policy, the higher the employee’s satisfaction with their working conditions. As a result of a path analysis, it was found that the most male-dominant industry was manufacturing, and the most female-dominant industry was health and social welfare. In the case of respondents who were employed in the most-male dominant industry, the degree of an employee’s understanding of the work-family reconciliation policy recognition, rather than the relative priorities of work and family life, had a greater effect on job satisfaction. On the other hand, respondents who were employed in the most-female dominant industry confirmed that their level of education was highly related to the degree of institutional recognition.

This study focuses on changes in a father's role from one that is work-centered to a work-family balance, analyzing the type of father's work-family reconciliation and to compare the differences among the types. An online survey was conducted with 1,037 fathers of school-aged children. The survey subjects were assigned to a ratio of 1:2:1:1 for fathers who have a child in kindergarten, elementary school, middle school and high school. The fathersʼ work-family reconciliation type was a variable composed of three categories: work-centered, family-centered, and work-family centered. In the research model of this study, the fathersʼ work-family reconciliation type was influenced by family characteristics(the age of first child, the number of children, dual earner, and spouse support) and work characteristics(weekly working hours, work flexibility, and leaving work on time). We analyzed characteristics of work-family reconciliation through housework time, child care time, leisure time, family meals, and time spend talking with their children. The results showed that father's work-family reconciliation type was significantly different according to the characteristics such as first child age and spouse support, work characteristics such as weekly working hours and leaving work on time. The time distribution differed significantly depending on the father's work-family reconciliation type. Therefore, a fathers' work-family reconciliation can be considered typified by the interaction of family and work characteristics. This study suggests policy implications for supporting fathersʼ work-family reconciliation.
청소년 한부모의 일과 삶의 실태와 현실 : 정규직 취업에 미치는 직업교육 경험과 아이돌봄 서비스 지원의 효과

This study aimed to examine the impact of academic background on full-time employment and on other important issues concerning job security and care faced by single-parent youths. The study alse aimed to verify the effect of related support on full-time employment. The analysis targeted 262 single parents under 24 years of age who were raising their children, and the main results were as follows: First, the ratio of adulthood was high for those who were employed, and the academic achievement of full-time workers was also significantly high. However, the rate of discontinuities in school was also high among those who were employed, especially those seeking full-time employment, whose desire to stay in school was higher than that of other difficulties of single, teenage parents. Second, the vocational education experience of single, teenage parents was 32 percent overall, and the rate of those seeking full-time employment was also relatively high, reaching 44 percent. However, the results of this study did not verify the direct effect of vocational education experience on full-time employment nor the interaction effect of the academic background. Therefore, a thorough review of the effectiveness of a vocational education program for young, single parents wishing to gain employment is necessary. Third, the overall rate of those who received a public nanny service was 31 percent, while the rate of full-time workers who experienced this service was significantly higher reaching 59 percent. In the research model verification, single parents who received a public nanny service were 3.8 times more likely to get a full-time job than those who did not, and receiving a public nanny service showed a regulatory effect between academic studies and full-time employment. The higher the academic level of the parents, the higher their possibility of full-time employment.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify problems in defining the concept of care and redefine it broadly, to examine the possibility of community care as an alternative way to change the negative image of care concept. Method : The literature review method was used for the study. Results : First, care is limitedly conceptualized as a concept of physical care and care for children and the elderly. Second, child care is perceived only as a burden, and it is avoided to express care needs in the youth period, and the care of the elderly is putting off responsibility between the public and the private sector. Third, through community care, we should be able to feel happiness in life itself and care needs to be recognized as a way of being throughout our life.

This study aimed to explore the moderating effect of family support resources on family caregiver burden as it in turn affects psychological well-being among middle-aged working mothers. Through purposive sampling, the study recruited 325 married employed mothers age 40-50 years who live in Seoul and who have more than 1 child and living parents or parents-in-law. The investigation was performed April 1-30, 2018, with the participants sampled from companies, schools and religious organizations in Seoul. The collected data were statistically analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 package. The results of this study were as follows: First, of all categories of caregiver burden, the score for burden of caring for elderly parents was 3.01 (SD = .81), slightly higher than the median of 3 points; childcare burden scored 3.16 (SD = .73), also higher than the median value; and family support resources scored 3.40 (.89), higher than the median of 3. Overall psychological well-being rated 3.25 (SD = .56). Second, health and educational level, the burdens of caring for elderly parents and childcare and family support resources were found to significantly affect psychological well-being. Third, family support resources, a moderating variable, were found to significantly moderate and ease the effect of childcare burden on middle-aged working mothers’ psychological well-being. Furthermore, in the analysis of their moderating effect, family support resources were confirmed to positively affect psychological well-being by moderating childcare burden experienced by middle-aged working mothers.
