This study aimed to develop a digital literacy program for fourth-grade elementary students using School-Designed Autonomous Time, introduced in the 2022 Revised National Curriculum, and to examine its effectiveness. Following the ADDIE model, a 17-session project-based program was developed on the basis of learner, environment, and curriculum analyses. The program covered four domains: use of digital devices and software, use and creation of digital information, digital communication and problem solving, and digital ethics and information protection. Content validity was reviewed by four experts (M=4.86 on a 5-point scale). The program was implemented with 19 fourth-grade students in one class in Gyeonggi Province using a one-group pretest–posttest design. Digital literacy was measured with a 17-item self-report questionnaire (Cronbach's α=.952) and analyzed with paired-samples t-tests. Overall digital literacy increased significantly from 3.31 to 3.94 (t(18)=-4.42, p<.001, d_z=1.01). Significant gains were found in the use of digital devices and software, digital communication and problem solving, and use and creation of digital information. No significant change was found in digital ethics and information protection, which showed the highest pretest score. This study offers a practical model for digital literacy education in middle elementary grades within School-Designed Autonomous Time. Further research with comparison groups and strengthened instructional strategies for digital ethics is recommended.
