Objectives: This research aims to understand the mediating role of parentification in the association between parental drinking problems and interpersonal relationships among college students. Methods: Utilizing a cross-sectional design, data were collected both through online and offline means. The study encompassed responses from 281 university students aged 18 to 29. The mediation effect of parentification on the relationship between parental drinking problems and the interpersonal relations of students was examined using bootstrapping analysis in jamovi 2.23.21 solid version for macOS. Results: Notable correlations emerged among the primary variables. Parental drinking problems exhibited a negative correlation with students' interpersonal relations and a positive correlation with parentification. Crucially, parentification mediated the effects of both fathers' and mothers' drinking problems on two specific aspects of interpersonal relations: caring for others and managing conflicts. However, no significant differences were discerned based on parental gender. Conclusion: This study reveals the significant impact of father' and mother' drinking problems on the interpersonal relations of college-aged children through parentification. The findings underscore the profound influence of both fathers' and mothers' drinking problems on the interpersonal dynamics of college-aged children, mediated by parentification, irrespective of the gender of the parent. The implications of this study emphasize the need for intervention strategies and policies that account for familial dynamics, and social contexts, aiming to mitigate interpersonal challenges faced by college students from families grappling with alcohol-related issues.

Objectives: This study is to implement a mindfulness meditation program and evaluate its effects in helping recovering alcoholics cope with addiction-related problems and stress with goals of healthy lifestyle changes to prevent relapse and maintain recovery. Methods: A concurrent embedded mixed-method design was used to evaluate the effects of the mindfulness meditation program. Nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was applied to verify the quantitative effects of the program. Quantitative data with 44 participants (experimental group: 23, control group: 21) were analyzed using a linear mixed-model. Regarding qualitative research, the contents of the individual interviews with 6 participants were analyzed through the content analysis method. Results: There were significant differences between the experimental and the control groups in terms of changes in perceived stress (F=14.01, p<.001), mindfulness (F=5.68, p=.019), alcohol abstinence self-efficacy (F=32.74, p<.001), and perceived health status (F=5.31, p=.024) at the pretest, posttest, and follow-up test. However, there were no significant changes regarding health-related quality of life (F=.40, p=.530) between the two groups. In addition, a total of three themes and six sub-themes were derived through content analysis of the individual interviews. The themes included “stopping and observing”, “choosing healthy coping”, and “starting newly”. The sub-themes were related to “distancing”, “finding myself”, “caring about my body and mind”, “letting go of for change”, “going with others” and “expecting changes in myself”. Conclusions: The mindfulness meditation program can be used as an effective aftercare program to help prevent relapse and maintain the recovery process for alcoholics. In addition, this study’s results can provide useful data for nursing education and research related to alcoholism.

Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the association between energy drink consumption and sleep duration and quality among Korean high school students. Methods: Data on 24,760 high school students were obtained from the 15th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey. The association between energy drinks consumption and sleep duration and quality was analyzed by multivariate logistic regression analysis in consideration of the complex sampling design. Results: 33.8% of respondents reported that they had at least one energy drinks in the past week. The majority (95.2%) of all subjects reported that the average sleep duration was less than 8 hours per day, and 84.7% of them were dissatisfied with sleep quality. After adjusting for confounding factors, higher energy drinks consumption was significantly associated with short sleep duration (< 8 hours/day) and unsatisfactory sleep quality. Conclusion: Insufficient sleep and poor sleep quality caused by energy drinks consumption can adversely affect the healthy development and functioning of high school students. Therefore, health education on the dangers of energy drinks and healthy sleep is needed, and it is urgent to prepare policies that can be realized at the national level.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate users of non-contact healthcare service and analyze associated factors including sefl-efficacy of healthy behaviors and digital health literacy. Methods: In 2022, an online survey of adults(age 19~69) was conducted to investigate non-contact healthcare service utilization for more than one month during the last three years. The non-contact healthcare services included tobacco smoking cessation, alcohol consumption management, healthy diet, physical activity, walking, weight control, and mental health. A total of 2,759 respondents were included in the analysis. We used four questions for positive self-efficacy measures and compared the responses with perceived effectiveness of the non-contact services and 15 item digital health literacy measures. Results: Utilization of non-contact services increased from 2019 to 2022. Physical activity and weight control services were more likely used than other services. Digital Health Literacy(DHL) scores were positively related to self-efficacy of health behaviors and subjective effectiveness of the six different health care services. Conclusions: Utilization of non-contact healthcare service was highly associated with increased self-efficacy and digital health literacy.

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effect of the operation of community health centers that has been operated for the purpose of the sub-regional unit (dong unit) health promotion project to improve the low health indicators of Busan Metropolitan City, and to identify the difference in health behavior and health indicators according to the operation of community health centers in Area B, which currently shows a relatively low level of health in Busan Metropolitan City. This will not only allow us to examine whether community health centers has actually had a health effect on local residents but also to derive improvements in the operation of the centers. Methods: Using the secondary data from the Community Health Survey conducted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, we examined whether the rate of walking practice, healthy lifestyle practice rate, smoking rate, high-risk drinking rate, stress complaint rate, depressive symptom hypertension diagnosis experience rate, diabetes diagnosis rate, and subjective health status differ depending on whether community health centers are operated or not. This will be used to check the changes in health indicators between 2015 (before the operation of community health centers) and 2020 (after the operation of community health centers). Result: Overall, when examining the changes between 2015 (before the operation of community health centers) and 2020 (after the operation of community health centers), the health indicators of the indicators of operating the community health centers in 5 out of a total of 9 indicators brought positive changes, and in 4 indicators, all of them were negative changes regardless of whether they were operating or not, but the extent of the negative change in the regions where community health centers were operating was very small compared to those that did not operate community health centers. Conclusion: Regions without community health centers still tended to show negative health status or worsening health levels. It is judged that the benefits to the residents can be greater if the operation of community health centers are expanded, so it can be said that various efforts are needed to expand the policy.
