The purpose of this paper is to contemplate the concept of storytelling with a critical eye from the perspective of humanities and discuss the educational value of classical narrations. Modern storytelling can be defined as ‘storytelling including making stories’ characterized by ① powerful purpose, ② a solid narrative , ③ three-dimensional and diverse means of expression , ④ active use of external contents , ⑤ a focus on division of labor and cooperation. From ② to ⑤ are the menas to achieve the objective (①). This powerful finality is the essence of modern storytelling and is based on the justice of the objective. Thus the problem is that the practicality of storytelling as a tool is overemphasized and thereby the introspection for the justice of purposes dwindles away and the tendency of pandering to the needs of capital and power strengthens. A hope that storytelling will bring us ideal future-dream society- and a concern that storytelling will be used as a tool to suppress our emotion are the two sides of the same coin. The heads and tails of the coin will depend on whether storytellers are able to introspect about the usefulness or serious risks of this tool or have a sense of sincere responsibility for the justice of purpose. In this context, Korea's classical narrations have values as the materials for storytelling or because of educational aspects. Classical narrations have the values and ways of thinking different from those in our time and culture. They are the alternatives to mechanistic reductionism: ① holistic life respect, competitive individualism, ② Idea of coexistent community, capitalist popular nature, ③ just and good nature. In addition, classics have survived, been supported by many people in a long time and been verified academically. Thus they are expected to serve as the origin of alternative causes beyond being used as materials. However in reality the majority of storytellers make classics conversational pieces, failing to resist the lure by the market. To be free from such lure, the elaborate understanding of classics and a periodical sense of vocation are required. This is why the perspective of humanities is required.

As media and technology develop, it is necessary to use visual or auditory materials in Korean lessons. Of course, using visual materials in lessons means that visual materials will be used for questions in Korean tests. Since 1994, they have been used for the language section of the College Scholastic Ability Test(CSAT), which plays a very important role in the Korean evaluation system. And there have been studies on using visual materials. Where the studies focused on the types of visual materials, but they didn't consider how visual materials actually affect the advancement of Korea’n language ability. In this study, visual materials of the 1994-2012 CSAT's language section are analyzed by visual material types, using visual materia’ls in subcategories of Korean language education, and using visual materials for question aspects. Then it is analyzed the connection between the Korean language education's subcategories and its visual materials. Precond’itions for using visual materials in Korean language evaluations of schools are considered by aspects of teachers, learners and the learning environment. There are three standards for using visual materials on questions: general standard, standards in the Korean language education's subcategories, and standards of visual materials. General standards deal wit’h the suitability between evaluation contents and evaluation ability, attention points when materials are chosen, placement by visual materials' number and size. By standards in the subcategories, it is decided how t’o use visual materials in the five subcategories. Lastly, visual materials are classified by the connection with the question elements.

The purpose of this paper is to describe the characteristics of the processing instruction(PI), and discuss how PI has been applied in teaching and learning of Korean grammar. PI is a type of focus on form instruction, and it is predicated on a model of input processing theory. The goal of PI is to guide L2 learners to derive richer intake from input. So as to achieve this end, the teacher makes learners engage in structured input activities that push them away from the strategies they normally use to make form-meaning connections. And the input activities are made up of various tasks that are given to learners. It is known that Korean is differentiated in grammatical forms and structures, and they have very various meaning that is difficult in distinguishing them. So, PI is very useful model in teaching and learning Korean grammar. But we need to require some examinations in order to applicate PI in teaching and learning of Korean grammar. First, we are to think over the way how the input processing theory is applicable to Korean grammar. Because the input processing theory has been developed with Indo-European language for a basis. Second, it is necessary to select the appropriate grammatical forms, because PI is not useful for all of the forms and structures of Korean. Third, it is necessary to consider the problem that compose appropriate tasks for the learners. Finally, we have to pay attention to the shortage that PI is based on input. Therefore it is necessary to consider the output activities of learners. But a lot of problems are left, for example short lesson program, limited selection of forms, and intentional teaching model. So, we have to make up for weakness in forward research of PI in teaching and learning of Korean grammar.

Most foreign Korean learners studying in Korean have difficulties in their studies despite the fact they have high level Korean language abilities. In order to solve a such problem, many researches focused on students' language abilities, such as on speaking, listening etc, although these kind of language abilities can be a source of difficulties in their campus life, lack of cultural competence may also be the reason. Both languages and cultures are inseparable in Korean study. The directions of integrating language and culture are divided into Language-Based Culture Teaching and Culture-Based Language Teaching. It is important to teaching culture and language in proper way. a questionnaire survey on the recognition of Korean cultures and the learning requirement of Korean department students was conducted for the purpose to illustrate the necessity of this research.

This thesis aims to analyze meaning of the lyricism in the Korean poetry. Lyricism tends to be mentioned related with orient self-identity and transcendency. It has transcended nature, time and religion. I would like to understand formal characteristics of the traditional lyric poetry, which are based on their composition, and the view of the world, and to examine the process that it has built their own frame of aesthetic cognition as lyricism through such changes. Octavio Paz divided rhetoric into analogy and irony. The lyricism is significant because it has a strong the sublime toward succession of the tradition adapted to the cosmotic world. At the end of late 1930's, the history of Korean modern poems had its own field out of the history’ of Korean literature or history of Korean modern literature. Lee Sang & Kim Soo-young , who are the most prominent figure in the Korean literary world after 1930's, is settled down as a modernist showing a dynamic relation between ’the actual and poetry through unique interpretation of the actual and coping method with it. I would like to say that the modernity of Lee Sang & Kim Soo-young's poetry is based on the irony. Thir irony relates to not only the role of ’allegory for capitalistic modernism or political condition but the reflective sense of watching the world cool. Considering these types of history of literature, the thing that we should reconsider when we describe the history of poem is that we still have the chronological method as a history of literature. Furthermore, when describing the history of the poem, the various points of view, needed to intend to the history of literature as a history itself as well as literature, will be inquired. Through two types of research, I hope the history of literature which has the concrete method as well as the various points of view should be developed.

This abstract is about the aspect and meaning of a woman's’ body in women's poems after 1990s mainly written from the texts of Kim Yeon-hee and Na Hee-deok. In order to research how the body in women's poems is reenacted and what message the poets want to send through it, I read the two poets' poems on the basis of French feminist Kristeva's theories of 'speaking subject' and ‘meaning formation'. According to Kristeva, ‘speaking subject' means the subject is in the process of forming the meaning. The subject in the process is flowing, heterogeneous, and ceaselessly changing. She explains this using a sign, ‘chora'. ‘Chora', which is related to maternal body(womb), is the place where the body's instinct and mental impulses are aroused and its meanings are formed. The maternal body should be abject in order to have ‘speaking subject' be seated in the symbolic order. ‘Meaning formation' is fulfilled when the symbolic order is renewed by abjection of maternal body. In the poems of Kim Yeon-hee and Na Hee-deok, a mother's body is not shown as a proper human body. Kim Yeon-hee expresses the desire of resistance and violation against the hypocrisy and violence of men by showing the marginal women under the rule as disgusting objects. In her poems, women are implied as the by-products of bodies such as a corpse or filth. It hints that a woman's body can be transferred as a threat to the patriarchy society. Rather Na Hee-deok seeks her identity from nature. In her poems, the nature is the mother body embracing others. She emphasizes the positive and creative power coming only from women. It's the strategy for both emphasizing the women's own superior character and escaping the established thought of femininity.

This study is based on the awareness of insufficient discussion about why novels are appropriate as a genre of study about identity despite the fact that other studies associate novels with identity as well as recognition of how the range of a theoretical approach which supports the study is too limited. Novels can be considered as a genre which is most appropriate in exploring identity amongst other literature genres. Through novels which are structured according to specific images in life, one can explore their self-identity and ultimately, construct their overall life. In order to observe how readers explore their own identities through novels, ‘Identity Theme' by Norman Holland, ‘Subjective Criticism' by David Bleich,' and ‘Narrative Identity' by Paul Ricoeur were observed in order. Additionally, these theories were referred to in order to make suggestions on how readers project specific social texts. This study holds significance by the fact that answers were provided for the questions related to why identity exploration should be conducted through novels as well as how readers should explore their identities through novels.

This thesis aims to compare and analyze the influence of the Japanese colonial domination on the two famous authors Liang Shanding and Ahn Soogil as well as their reaction towards the domination through the exploration of the main ideas expressed in their novels, meanwhile, it also focuses on their realistic awareness and the ideal world that they pursued. He describes in his novels created in the period of Manchuria, the tragic life of the people living in the colonized Northeast China with a realistic approach , which is called the “the howl from darkness”. Liang Shanding, who had lived in the colonized area for thirty years, is opposed to the literary works praising the Japanese aggression. In his representative novels, such as 「Narrow Street」,「In the Smelly Fog」, 『Green Valley』, he shows his advocation to the local literary which portraits or reveals the reality. The works of Ahn Soogil written in the period of Manchuria is regarded as ‘the Record and Gando Report' of the life of immigration . Having lived in Longjing and Changchun together with his family for twenty years, he describes the life of the Korean immigrants based on his life experience in his representative works, such as 「Rice Plant」,「Mokchookgi」,『Bukhyangbo』Liang Shanding and Ahn Soogil explore Manchu under the domination of Japan and the question about how the nation can survive in their novels. Liang Shanding pays much attention to the people who led a hard life under the triple oppression of the Japanese colonialists, the feudal and the warlord class. He also exposes the possible ways aiming to break the fetter of the feudal thought characterized by fatalism and resignation that the lower class should choose under the Japanese rule. In order to break the shackle on the mind of the lower class people in the Manchu area, Shanding advocates the spirit of resistance. He presents the changing process from awakening to resisting of the lower class people through the altering of the figures in his novels, such as the couple in the novel 「Narrow Street」who led a resigned life and at last died tragically, Lu Dage in 「In the Smelly Fog」believing in fatalism was killed by the gunner who served for the landlord, Tie Zhu who was discontented with the Japanese colonist and stood up to fight against them personally as well as the ‘big bear paw' in his novel 『Green Valley』who unites the public to resist the Japanese invaders. The changing of the figures shows the thoughts of the authors who appeal to the public to wake up and defend their homeland, which is presented through the spirit of resistance shown by the peasants in Langgou when assaulted by the horse gang. The rebellious spirit based on the ‘The spirit of Old roots' referring to guard their homeland or their root is the reflection of ‘The Langgou spirit'. As the establishment of Manchuria, the politics and social environment began to deteriorate, so Ahn Soogil turned his eyes on the tuff living condition of the Koreans in China, he tries to expose as well as put forward his own view on the question that how the Koreans, as aliens, facing the transformation of the society, survive the hostile environment. In his novels, such as 「Mokchookgi」, 『Bukhyangbo』, Ahn Soogil describes the construction of the ‘ideal village' and the ‘the beautiful second hometown'. As their road of returning back to their own country was cut off, so their sense of urgency about how to settle down rises with the time passing by. As a result, their awareness of Chinese people and Manchu had a great change. In order to survive, they made up their mind to settle down in Manchu. Ahn Soogil depicts this kind of people who could adapt himself to the social reality and get on well with the Chinese natives harmoniously in his literary works, such as the representative characters: the landlord Bakjiwon in「Rice Plant」, Lao Song in 「Mokchookgi」, Pan Chenggui in 『Bukhyangbo』and the Korean intellectuals as Chansu, Chan-ho and Mr Jiang in his novels. In 『Bukhyangbo』, Ahn Soogil shows their thought of settling down through the description of the mutual respect and the harmonious coexistence between the Korean immigrants and the Chinese people. The approach put forward by Ahn Soogil in his novels that the Korean immigrants adopt to settle down in the Manchu area are ‘the soul of rice farming' and ‘The spirit of a northern hometown'.

Today CIS Korean Literature describes the matters of, for example, environment, the aged, marriage between other nations, combine and discrimination between other nations that we have to considerate. CIS Koreans fought for their homeland Russia in the Russia internal war and the second world war as partizan. But 1937 Stalin has forcibly the korean in the Far East move to Central Asia. In the process many koreans are died or pressed. Here racial prejudice acted following Russia ultra-nationalism. Nonetheless CIS Koreans can not speak entirely the discrimination that they have received till 1956 that Stalin has died.. CIS Koreans began to think slowly their past history in 1960's. And after Perestroika and Glasnost in 1986 they can speak openly their deportation that the Soviet Union has had. The novel 'Kumkacman' reconstructs their painful history of deportation. However 'Looking for Dream' shows the discrimination between Russian and Korean, at the same time between CIS Korean and Sakhalin Korean. They equally have interiorized already the Russian's value that the Soviet Union makes a demand. CIS Korean discriminate Sakhalin Korean as Nezichi, and Sakhalin Korean discriminate CIS Korean as Ulmauze(the second Russian). The discord that CIS Korean and Sakhalin Korean show implies with no fetters of the modern history in Korea. Therefore compromise between them can be possible when they recognize exactly their history. And this will be applied to the Korean peninsula.
