Cloud computing has attracted a great deal of attention in the education sector as a way of delivering more economical, securable, and reliable education services. This paper proposes and introduces a cloud-based smart education system for e-learning content services with a view to delivering and sharing various enhanced forms of educational content, including text, pictures, images, videos, 3-dimensional (3D) objects, and scenes of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). The proposed system consists of six main features that are required for deploying cloud-based educational content services: 1) a cloud platform that provides an infrastructure for the realization of a cloud-based educational media service environment, 2) a compatible file format that enables it to provide media content through various types of devices, 3) an authoring tool that enables teachers to create various types of media content, 4) a content viewer that displays different types of media on multiple platforms, 5) an infer-ence engine that provides students with individualized learning content, and 6) a security system that manages privileged user access and data encryption in the cloud for dependable educational content services. We believe that the proposed system should provide a new and innovative solution for cloud-based educational media services by supporting a cloud-based service environment with a totally integrated system.

This paper compares two well-known simulation techniques to model human reactive and different level of details for proactive behaviour modelling in service systems. The simulation methods used are Discrete Event Simulation (DES) and combined DES and Agent-Based Simulation (ABS) called DES-ABS. We consider two proactive human behaviours which are taking charge from experience and taking the initiative to fulfil a goal. We investigate the similarities and differences of model results performance in both simulation models. The results of our experiments show that the level of pro-activeness considered in the simulation model has a big impact on the output. However, there is no significant difference between the results from the DES and the DES-ABS simulation models. Therefore, for service systems of the type we investigated, it is suggested to use DES as the preferred analysis tool.

This paper introduces a hand-gesture-based user interface that enables users to control virtual objects in three-dimensional (3D) virtual environments. Users are able to manipulate objects by moving, rotating, scaling, and selecting their hands in the real world. A gesture-based virtual simulation system for vehicle maintenance is developed, incorporating several object-manipulation features (such as opening a car door, sitting in a seat, replacing tires, and disassembling the engine) to evaluate the effectiveness of this protocol. Our results indi-cate that the proposed hand-gesture-based user interface could potentially be employed in place of a mouse or keyboard to interact with objects in 3D virtual environments.

With the explosive growth of Iphone and Android smartphones, there are increasing demands and requests for application developers to support both smart platforms, simultaneously. Thus, we develop HTML5 based photo album smart application which is exchangably executable for those two platforms. In addition, we propose two solutions to support and increase the degree of user experience in HTML5 applications; Frame management and pinch & spread alternative techniques. This research proposes a model for deverlopers to imitate the pinch & spread, since we need to find a workaround technique without any violation of intellectual property due to the patent war between Apple and Samsung. It is implemented and verified by the HTML5 photo album application.

The expanding ring search is a useful technique for reducing the overhead of the broadcast storm problem when it is applied to route-searching in multi-hop wireless network for adaptive trajectory service. Usually the centered source in this algorithm searches successively larger areas to find out the vehicle location information for trajectory service and wireless network traffic condition. In this paper we propose an expanding ring search with multi-hop cooperative transmission and routing strategies that can be applied to the second part of Cognitive-Adaptive-A-Software (CAAS) Project. We suggest that the proposed scheme should be applied to Multi-hop Wireless Network Model for Smart Vehicle Adaptive Traffic.

In healthcare settings, interactive multimedia education using web technology is very beneficial area of education. With the rapid globalization of healthcare market, multicultural healthcare is one of the major issues that the healthcare industry is facing at this moment. The purpose of this study was to describe a research that the aim is to develop an interactive multimedia education program utilizing web interface to enhance cultural competency of the healthcare professionals. The system is being developed using the following five processes: 1) Analysis stage 2) Designing stage 3) Content framing and development stage 4) Program application stage 5) Evaluation stage. Interactive learning activities consisted of online lecture & interactive case scenario, quiz, video audio, discussion, individual and team project, Q&A to facilitate the cognitive emotional participants. The completed program was applied to nurses in the community hospitals and interactive web based multimedia education was found to be an effective e-learning media of healthcare professionals in the information age.

Chunk scheduling is one of the key components in P2P streaming systems. Most of previous research works focus on receiver side’s chunk/peer selection strategies and neglect the service order and available uplink bandwidth allocation problem at supplier side, which will cause the user’s video quality descending under overloaded operating environments. In this paper, we propose the supplier side chunk priority model, formulate the supplier side scheduling problem as a linear programming problem and derive a greedy bandwidth resource allocation algorithm to solve it. The simulations demonstrate the proposed scheme effective comparing to the FCFS (First Come First Service) scheme.

We developed a user’s viewing path similarity-based contents recommendation algorithm using LBS (Location Based Services). However, the previous research had a problem that it might recommend contents related with exhibits which users did not like because it divides an exhibition into the areas and recommends contents based on them. To solve this problem, we propose the service based on activity recognition using 3-axis accelerometer sensor. In this service, it is determined by analysis of user’s movements that the corresponding user is moving or viewing. Also, it measures the viewing time that the user spent on viewing exhibits and determines user’s location using LBS. It might recommend more suitable contents to the user's taste because it focuses on the exhibits which users actually watch long.

This paper discussed the recording process and context of the visual archive which records the cultural heritage in video. The cultural heritage record has a value for permanent preservation by being a core material for national and cultural identity of a country, and has its own value as information. Visual archive is one of the recording methods for cultural heritage along with the static image like a picture and the reports documenting contents in writing. Visual archive is useful for the efficient delivery of information with visual images and audio system. Context should be considered to distinguish between data and information more clearly in the process of production and utilization of information. The transformation process of data to information was studied by considering context during the process of recording cultural heritage in images. As a result, we expect that cultural heritage is classified by knowledge information and becomes a foundation used actively for creating cultural contents.
