Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence the practices and the intentions of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among adolescent daughters’ mothers. The focus is on the mothers’ HPV knowledge and sex-related communication with their daughters. Methods: The participants were 298 mothers with middle or high school student daughters. Participants were conveniently selected from a mothers’ association and churches in Seoul, Cheonan and Asan city. Information on their demographics, HPV vaccination-related knowledge, sex-related communication, and intention of receiving HPV vaccination were obtained through questionnaires. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the x2 test and logistic regression with SPSS for Windows 21.0 software. Results: The rate of HPV vaccination, the awareness of the HPV vaccine and the rate of giving correct answers to HPV knowledge questions were 13.1%. 84.6%, and 36.3%, respectively. The factors that influenced HPV vaccination most were their family history of cervical cancer, educational backgrounds and awareness of the HPV vaccine. The intention to receive HPV vaccination was mainly influenced by HPV knowledge. However, sex-related communication did not affect the mothers’ intention of obtaining HPV vaccination. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that strategies to educate mothers with adolescent daughters on HPV are necessary. In addition, this study strongly recommends further studies be planned to examine sex-related communication between mothers and daughters.

Purpose: The Purpose of this study was to examine school health teachers' burnout, engagement, job demands and job resources and to identify the factors that influence burnout and engagement. Methods: The participants were 222 school health teachers working in elementary, middle or high schools. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: The significant factors influencing burnout were rewards (β=-.51), autonomy (β=-.15), and job demands (β=.13). These factors explained 42% of the variance in burnout. The significant factors influencing engagement were feedback (β=.49), rewards (β=.21), type of employment (β=.15) and autonomy (β=.13). These factors explained 49% of the variance in engagement. Conclusion: The study showed that job demands increase burnout, while job resources such as rewards and autonomy alleviate it. In addition, job resources, such as feedback, rewards and autonomy, increase engagement among school health teachers. Therefore, in order to reduce burnout and increase engagement among school health teachers, it is necessary to reduce the level of job demands and to provide enough job resources such as rewards, autonomy and feedback by improving the job environment.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine and compare the academic engagement, academic burnout, stress, and social support among undergraduate nursing students by grade. Methods: The study is a descriptive comparative survey. The participants were 247 undergraduate nursing students enrolled in 3 universities located in G city. The collected data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, x2 tests, and analysis of covariance, using SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: The students showed significant differences in academic engagement, academic burnout, and stress according to their grade. The post-hoc analysis results showed that sophomores and juniors had lower academic engagement and higher academic burnout and stress than others (i.e., freshmen, or seniors). There was no significant difference in social support among nursing students. Academic engagement had a positive correlation with social support and a negative correlation with academic burnout and stress. Also, academic burnout had a positive correlation with stress and a negative correlation with academic engagement and social support. Conclusion: The findings indicate that nursing students in second and third grade were at risk of academic burnout and under severe stress. Therefore, sophomores and juniors need more attention and care to help them relieve and control stress and burnout and to improve their academic engagement. Also, the findings should be considered when developing plans and/or interventions for nursing students’ major adjustment and academic achievement.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the association between physical activity and vitamin D deficiency status among Korean adolescents. Methods: This is cross-sectional analysis of Korean adolescents aged 10-18 years from the 5th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES 2010-2012; n=2,384). We estimated the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and identified the correlations with the strength of physical activity. x2 test, t-test, and multiple logistic regression using complex sample analysis were done. The odds ratio of vitamin D deficiency by physical activity was calculated using complex sample multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency was 78.2%. The mean serum 25 (OH) D level in deficiency group and non-deficiency group was 14.4ng/mL, 23.7ng/mL respectively. Differences by age strata (the prevalence ranging from 68.5% to 86.3%) and gender (78.6% for boy and 84.5% for girl) were identified. Among adolescents aged 16-18 or girl in vigorous physical activity, a significant correlation between vitamin D deficiency and physical activity was observed, whereas no significant correlation were found among adolescents in moderate physical activity. Conclusion: In conclusion, vigorous physical activity was associated with vitamin D deficit in Korean adolescents. Thus, intervention programs enhancing vigorous activity than moderate activity need to be developed in schools and community.

Purpose: Despite the high incidence, the incidence of atopic dermatitis among adolescents has been continuously increasing. The study was conducted to examine the severity of atopic dermatitis among middle school students and to identify the factors affecting the severity. Methods: The data used in the analysis are from 2015 Youth Health Behavior Online Survey. Complex sample analysis was conducted to analyze the severity of atopic dermatitis which was defined by the treatment experience of atopic dermatitis and the number of absent days due to the disease as its criteria. Binary logistic regression of the factors affecting the severity of atopic dermatitis by gender was done. Results: The severity of atopic dermatitis was high in male students who were in a lower grade (freshmen), who smoked, or who consumed soft drinks at least once a week, while in female students who were in a lower grade (freshmen, sophomore), who consumed alcohol, who consumed highly caffeinated drinks at least once a week or who consumed sweet drinks at least once a week. The severity of atopic dermatitis was lower in female students who lived in big cities or medium/small sized cities or engaged in physical activities less than three times a week. Conclusion: For atopic dermatitis among middle school students, the importance of dietary management should be considered. This indicates that families, schools, and communities have their own responsibilities and efforts to relieve the symptoms of the atopic dermatitis.
