Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the mediating effects of psychosocial well-being on the relationship between self-leadership and learning flow in nursing students. Methods: A total of 148 nursing students with online class experience participated in the study. The data were analyzed using the independent t-test, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, PROCESS macro, and bootstrapping methods with SPSS Statistics 26.0. Results: The results showed that self-leadership, learning flow, and psychosocial well-being were significantly correlated, and self-leadership had a direct effect on learning flow. In other words, the higher the level of self-leadership, the higher the learning flow of nursing students. Psychosocial well-being was partially mediated by self-leadership and learning flow. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop and implement programs for self-leadership and psychosocial well-being enhancement as a strategy to enhance nursing students’ learning flow.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the changes in the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its risk factors in Korean adolescents before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The study employed a descriptive cross-sectional design. Data were obtained from the 2018 and 2020 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys. Out of a total of 15,351 participants in the surveys, 971 adolescents aged 12 to 18 years were included. The data were analyzed using the rao-scott x2 test and t-test. Results: There was no significant difference in the prevalence of adolescent metabolic syndrome before and after the outbreak of COVID-19. As for general characteristics, changes in high blood pressure were confirmed from waist circumference, diastolic blood pressure, and metabolic syndrome risk factors. When analyzing the general characteristics according to gender, there were significant differences in waist circumference and diastolic blood pressure in boys. Concerning the risk factors for metabolic syndrome, there was a significant difference in high blood pressure in both boys and girls and in abdominal obesity in girls. Conclusion: Hypertension and abdominal obesity, which are risk factors for metabolic syndrome, should be managed by including them in the school health area. Communities and schools should take an active role in preparing the youth for healthy adulthood.

Purpose: Adolescent suicide is an important issue worldwide. Although literature on preventing suicide among adolescents tends to focus on suicidal ideation, suicidal planning is also an important issue as a stage leading to suicidal behavior. This study aims to identify suicidal planning-related factors, including generalized anxiety disorder, among adolescents who had suicidal ideation. Methods: This secondary study used data generated from the 16th(2020) Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey, which included 5,979 students who had suicidal ideation. Factors related to suicidal planning were identified by performing a logistic regression analysis of the participants. All analyses were performed using SPSS 27.0. Results: Among adolescents who had suicidal ideation, 23.8% had suicide plans. The suicidal plans were significantly related to school level (middle, OR=1.38, 95% CI=1.22~1.55), whether they were living with family (no, OR=1.36, 95% CI=1.06~1.75), perceived body image (normal, OR=1.23, 95% CI=1.05~1.44; Obese, OR=1.33, 95% CI=1.14~1.54), depression (yes, OR=1.47, 95% CI=1.25~1.72), tobacco use (yes, OR=1.31, 95% CI=1.12~1.54), alcohol use (yes, OR=1.21, 95% CI=1.06~1.38), drug use (yes, OR=1.96, 95% CI=1.44~2.66), and/or generalized anxiety disorder (severe, OR=1.76, 95% CI=1.44~2.14). Conclusion: The findings of the study suggest that in addition to the commonly recognized factors for adolescent suicide, generalized anxiety disorder should also be considered when establishing strategies to prevent suicide planning in adolescents who had suicidal ideation.
