Purpose : To investigate the degree of apearance satisfaction, self-es teem and school maladjustment and the corelation among the three variables in elementary, middle and high school student. Method : The subject of this study was total 878 students of elementar y, midle, and high schol in Seoul. The data were collected through a sel f-administered questionaire f rom June, 18 to June, 29, 2007. Results : The mean of apearance satisfaction was 29.8. Apearance sati according to school, presence of parents, academic performance, and the number of friend. The mean of self-estem was 77.9. Self-esteem showed significant diferences according to grade, academic performance, and the number of friend. The mean of school maladjustment was 54.3. School maladjustment gender, academic performance, and the number of friend. In the corelation among three variables, there was a positive corelation betwen apearance satisfaction and self-esteem but there was a negative corelation betwen appearance satisfaction and school maladjustment, and also a negative corr multiple linear regresion analysis to investigate influencing factor on schol maladjustment, apearance satisfaction and self-estem were significant variables. Conclusion : We should make regular education program and provide students through school classes which help from their parents.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for p lanning oral health education in elementary schol. Methods conducted using a postal, self-administered questionnaire. A questionnaire containing 19 questions about oral health education which was provided by health teachers in elementary schol was used for data colle ction. Total response rate was 64.3% (119 out of 185). Results : Oral health education except one through textbooks was conduc of which taught oral health themselves. The contents of oral he alth education through special clas was mainly focusing on the tothbrushing method, dental caries, and the use of fluo ride. Acording to the grades clasified by the level of education, the order was the 3rd, 1st, and 2nd grade, which mea ns that the lower grades got more training than the h was acquired through the internet (72.2%), health-related organizations or academies (51.5%). Also, materi als for oral health education were obtained from health-related organizations or academies (67%), self-productio n (49.5%). According to the data during the past 5 years it was found that 13.4% health teachers had oral health-related that more traing neded to be conducted from 89.7% health tea chers. The most dificult problem in oral health education were insufficient time (56.7%). Conclusion : For effective oral health education, there needs a developmen t of targeted goal to achieve a systemic oral health education for each grades as wel as a ned for as health teachers to eficiently acquire knowledge and materials for oral health education, it is necessary to hold regular workshops for health teachers, and develop and distribute appro priate educational materials.

Background: Although school footpaths must guarantee pedestrians’ safety and pleasantness, even facilities installed according to standards provided in “Rules on the Designation and Management of School Zones” are not maintained and managed properly and as a result they are not effective for securing the safety of school footpaths. Purpose: The present study surveyed the physical environment of elementary school footpaths and investigated problems posed by the absence of facilities. Methods: First, the current state of street structure was investigated using maps as well as field surveys, and the current state of street furniture was surveyed by checking if it has been installed and photographing it. In addition, traffic characteristics were investigated by measuring traffic safety while children’s going to school and home, and children’s behaviors on school footpaths were surveyed by observing their behaviors when going to school and home. Result: This study surveyed the installation and state of safety facilities on school footpaths around elementary schools in B City, analyzed items to be improved, and presented materials for reducing accidents among elementary students.
