Design and Implementation of Convergence Telepresence System Using Smart Device

This paper presents a design and realization of 1080i Full-HD telepresence system by using commercialized mobile device and smart device. The existing telepresence system could establish Full-HD video for efficient transmission with exclusive H/W en-and de-coder and high-priced device. However, this technology realizes transmitter by using a camera of commonly-used smart phone for encoding Full-HD video, without expensive camera. Then, it realizes the video with decoder for Full-HD video by using low-price Android STB in order to output the video on large-sized screen. In addition, this technology puts various devices having totally different functions each other into one video call system by defining API (Application Program Interface) for video call, in a bid to secure efficient control structure from the combination between totally-different type of device. This paper describes general call processing system for video call, the way how to make it interwork through smart device and the way how to make it apply and realize on smart device.
An Energy Efficient Multimedia Streaming Scheme in WiMedia Networks

The salient features of UWB networks such as high-rate communications, low interference with other radio systems, and low power consumption bring many benefits to users, thus enabling several new applications such as wireless universal serial bus (WUSB) for connecting personal computers (PCs) to their peripherals and the consumer-electronics (CE) in people’s living rooms. Because the size of multimedia data frame, WiMedia device must transmit the fragment of MSDU. However, when the fragment of MSDU is lost, WiMedia device maintains active mode for the time to complete the transmission MSDU, and there is a problem that unnecessary power consumption occurs. Therefore we propose new power management scheme to reduce unnecessary power consumption of WiMedia devices in the case that the fragment is lost.
Anonymous Electronic Voting Protocol with Deniable Authentication for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

This paper analyzes Chun et al.’s e-voting protocol for mobile ad-hoc network and modifies it based on blind signature technique to support anonymous voting property. Based on this property the trusted node cannot learn who has voted for whom. As the previous protocol, the modified protocol does not need any centralized administration. We analyze security and computation cost of the proposed protocol and show that it is well suited for mobile environments.

Copyright protection of digital content has become one of important issues in digital content marketplace. Digital watermarking may be used as an effective method for identifying the copyright ownership of digital content against unauthorized use and distribution. In this paper, we propose a robust digital image watermarking algorithm based on the multiple transform method, discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and discrete fractional random transform (DFRNT). We adopt a two-dimensional (2D) barcode for hiding information and apply the block code encoding and generate a watermark through them. The generated watermark image is embedded into DWT-DFRNT using quantization technique in order to ensure robustness and imperceptibility of the watermark. Experimental results present that our proposed algorithm has improved the extraction performance by accurately extracting the hidden information in the 2D barcode from the detected watermark. Also, combining the dual transform method, DWT and DFRNT, has improved the imperceptibility and robustness of the watermark against basic image signal processing attacks.
Development of u-Healthcare System Based on Ubiquitous Networks

In this paper, we are study conducted on the u-Healthcare system that can transmit a patient’s emergency situations and location information at the same time as it is embedded with diverse sensors to detect emergency through a patient’s bio signals examined. The system herein developed for the research is portable to detect a patient’s emergency situations, and can sense his or her pulse, body temperature, and location information to transmit to hospital server through wireless network, and offer real-time location identification service for staff and medical appliances through kiosk installed in major locations in a hospital. For a network to transmit wireless data generated from a patient’s portable end terminal to hospital server, used was Zigbee, inexpensive mesh network, rather than high-end WLAN to accommodate the whole area of hospital to compose wireless network. Communication within a configured wireless network is connected to TTL and UART to communicate and it is configured so that IP selection is possible for WLAN Card Adapter. Through this, a system was configured so that the patient and elderly people are able to transmit the vital and location information to the hospital system.A network that is necessary for transmitting the wireless data generated by the handheld device carried by the patient to the hospital server was configured using ZigBee which is a cheaper mesh network compared to the high cost WLAN in order to cover the entire hospital.
Robust Adaptive Video Watermarking Algorithm based on Dual Transform Domains

In this paper, we propose a robust video watermarking algorithm based on dual transform domain using the adaptive quantization method. In order to increase the robustness of watermark, Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm is used for embedding watermarks. Firstly, one-level wavelet decomposition is employed for the two-dimensional carrier signal by using the characteristics of the wavelet multi-resolution analysis, and then the low-frequency and middle-frequency coefficients are extracted. After dividing the coefficients into small blocks, discrete cosine transform is applied to each block coefficient. Then, the adaptive quantization algorithm is designed. The optimal embedding positions in the two dimensional space of the carrier signal are determined dynamically by using Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm, and the coefficients in the optimal embedding positions are also extracted. According to the characteristics of these coefficients, the optimal quantization step sizes are determined dynamically in three dimensional space. Finally, the watermark is embedded into watermarking vector adaptively by using the optimal embedding positions and optimal quantization step sizes, then the watermarked vector will be received. The experimental results show that compared with traditional watermark algorithms, the presented robust watermark algorithm not only eliminate the block effects that might arise in the transform process, but also make full use of Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm to determine the optimal embedding positions and optimal quantization step sizes of the watermark embedding algorithm. It has implemented the adaptive embedding and increased the non-sentience and robustness of the watermark. A series of attacks and comparative experiments show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is better than traditional algorithms.
Flaw Detection in Ceramics using Sigma Fuzzy Binarization and Gaussian Filtering Method

In this paper, we propose an intelligent method to extract flaws from nondestructive testing(NDT) images of ceramics. Our goal is to extend the previous study[8]'s feasibility to handle images having skewed brightness distribution or darker images. Thus, we use Gaussian filtering along with anisotropic filtering and sigma fuzzy binarization instead of repetitive binarization used in [8]. These techniques enable us to enhance the brightness contrast successfully so that the usability of our method is extended and verified in experiment. Two phases of image processing - area segmentation and extraction of the defect by searching for labeled pixel to form a defected object by Grassfire algorithm - are explained in detail.
Short Term Load Forecasting based on BPL Neural Network with Weather Factors

This paper presents the development of Short Term Load Forecasting (STLF) model using Artificial Neural Network (ANN). STLF is required for electric power planning and electricity market planning. The proposed model predicts the load demand of Connecticut in the U.S. using hourly historical electric load and weather data. For improving the load prediction accuracy, we consider two main issues that are seasons and weather factors. Each season has different load demand patterns, thus the weather factors are differently applied in each season. The proposed model uses the composited weather factor which consists of temperature and dew point. The temperature and dew point weather factors are selected through the correlation coefficient to obtain the meaningful data among the weather factors. The selected weather factors adjust the level of the pitch which is the predicted load demand of one day ahead. The proposed model improves the forecasting accuracy both in summer and winter.
A Framework for the Creating, Expressing and Sharing of User’s Emotion

This paper presents the Emotionally Intelligent Contents (EIC) framework designed to support the rapid development of interactive emotion contents. The EIC framework consists of the Emotion Recognizer for detecting user’s emotional states, the Emotion Server for storing and sharing emotion data, the Emotion Content Authoring Tool for customizing user’s own emotional expression rules, the Emotion Rule Controller for processing user’s emotional rules, and the Emotion Content Player for displaying the content according to the user’s emotional states and his/her personalized emotion rules. This framework allows a designer to create the emotion content that interprets a user’s emotional state and adapts its visual and aural characteristics based on user-specified emotion rules. It dynamically alters user-specified images or models to express user emotions. It also enables users to share their emotion with others using customized emotion expressions applied in the content. Several prototype EICs were built with this framework. A pilot study was conducted to compare the EIC against the original content and the initial result showed that the EIC had significantly more influence on the subject’s emotion than the original content.
