Objectives: The purpose of this study was to verify correlation between social support & psychosocial stress and drinking behavior after consuming alcohol among college students. Methods: This study surveyed by questionnaire 440 students who consumed alcohol regularly from 36 colleges around the country in 2014. Data were analyzed using the program SPSS 21. Results: The effects of social support on problem behavior after drinking and psychosocial stress had significant influence with each path coefficient -.178(CR= -3.408, p<0.001) and -.294(CR= -6.195, p<0.001). Also, the effects of psychosocial stress on problem behavior after drinking had significant influence with path coefficient -.141(CR= -2.858, p<0.05). Social support had significant influence(p<0.001) on problem behavior after drinking through psychosocial stress, serving as a mediator variable, and social support had significant influence on problem behavior after drinking through psychosocial stress. Conclusions: Problem behavior after consuming alcohol held strong relevance in social support and psychosocial stress.

Background & Objectives: There were increasing evidence about the relationship between allergy related disease such as asthma, atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis and suicide ideation. However little was known about the concrete relatedness between severity and comorbidity of allergy related disease with suicide ideation. The objective of this study was to investigate the cases of the prevalence of suicide ideation among adolescents with allergy related disease such as asthma, atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis, and examine the association between allergy related disease and suicidal ideation among adolescents in South Korea. Methods: Data was based on Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey(2014) which was a cross-sectional study containing 34,874 Korean middle and high school students who diagnosed with allergy related disease. We used the weights, strata and primary sampling unit information provided by the public use dataset to compute descriptive statistics and logistic regressions. Computations were done with SPSS version 20.0. Results: 19.9%, 15.6%, 13.8% of adolescents who suffered from one, two and three of allergy related diseases respectively reported having been thought of suicide ideation. Socio-demographic factors were adjusted as control variables. Students with greater severity of disease were more likely to have suicide ideation. Odds ratio for students who were absent one to three days from school because of allergies was 1.96(95% CI 1.51-2.46), and odds ratio for those who were absent more than four days from school was 3.60 (95% CI 2.46-5.28). Conclusions: Given that adolescents’ severity and comorbidity of allergy related disease were clearly associated with suicide ideation, suicide prevention programs for adolescents with allergy related disease should be improved by strategic approaches towards the severity and comorbidity of disease.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze effects of drinking motives on binge drinking and the difference between male and female students. Methods: A survey was conducted for 500 college students in three towns in Gang-won Province. Frequency analysis was used for demographic item and group regression analysis for effects of drinking motives on binge drinking. Results: Sub-factors - uplift motives, social motives, coping motives and tuning motives - were analyzed, and it was found that uplift motives, social motives and coping motives influenced binge drinking significantly(p<0.001). But tuning motives had no significant effect. Also for male students, uplift motives affected binge drinking significantly(p<0.001) whereas female students were not affected by it. In contrast, social motives had an influence on binge drinking significantly (0<0.001) for female students while it didn’t affect male students. Coping motives affected both male and female students on binge drinking by p<0.001. Conclusions: College students’ drinking motives had a significant influence on binge drinking, and since it is reported that there is difference between male and female student group, a guideline and education for drinking regarding gender difference is needed for the establishment of desirable drinking culture for college students.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting self-worth and social competence among middle school students. Methods: The survey collected 388 subjects from 2 middle school students in Seoul, Korea. Data were analyzed with t2-test, ANOVA and regression analysis. Results: First, self-worth were significantly different by academic grades. Also social competence were significantly different by academic grades. Second, it showed the effect of regular exercise and endurance on self-worth. Third, it showed the effect of external image, health, regular exercise and endurance on social competence. Conclusions: `It was suggested to develop physical, mental and social health programs and policies were required for development of physical self-concept, self-worth and social competence.

Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between self-esteem and stress among adolescents. Methods: The subjects of this study were 1,025 from elementary, middle and high school students in Dangjin city. Data were measured using self-esteem scale and brief encounter psychosocial instrument. The data were analyzed frequencies, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression analysis using the SPSS 12.0 program. Results: Self-esteem was correlated with stress negatively among adolescents. In multiple linear regression analysis, self-esteem had a statistically significant negative effect on stress. Affecting factors of the self-esteem in all schools were grades, economic status and relationship with parents. Conclusions: The results of this study help to provide a basis for the development of a self-esteem management program to alleviate the stress for adolescents. The program of human relationship should be developed and provided to improve the self-esteem.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to study about characteristics about patients using the emergency room of a general hospital of a partial area residents. Methods: The analysis of the data was used by SAS program(ver. 9.2). Chi-square test was used in analyzing degree of emergency of patients visiting the emergency room of a general hospital. Using cluster analysis, subjects were classified into 3groups. Results: Urgent and emergent patients at the age of 40 or greater were significantly higher than in under 10 years. the rates of urgent and emergent patients in male(3.2% and 3.3%) were significantly higher than in female(2.5% and 2.2%)(p<0.001). Urgent patients were the highest at 11 p.m.-3 a.m. and on Thursday and in winter. Emergent patients were the highest at 4 a.m.-8 a.m. and on wednesday and in winter. Patients as cause of disease was the highest in illness. Conclusions: Policy establishment and measures of government and public health authority were needed for emergent diseases at the age of 40 or greater of male and at midnight time and on thursday and wednesday and in winter.

Objectives: This study was conducted in order to determine how the association between socioeconomic status and health behaviors with self-rated health status among Korean aged 20-64 years. Methods: A nationally representative sample(2,027 men and 2,626 women) from the 2013 Korea National Health and Nutrition Surveys was analyzed. To estimate the odds ratio and 95% confidence intervals, logistic regression was conducted. Results: The study shows that socioeconomic status is related with self-rated health status. that is, lower education and income led to a significant increase in poor health status. The odds ratio of self-rated health status after controlling for age was 2.83(95% CI, 1.60-5.00) for men, 2.32(95% CI, 1.15-3.46) for women among those with the lowest-educated group compared to the highest-educated group. When household income was considered, the odds ratio of self-rated health for men was 3.50(95% CI, 2.11-5.79) and 2.21(95% CI, 1.53-3.20) for women among those in the lowest-income group compared to the highest-income group. Health behaviors had little effect on the relationship between socioeconomic status and self-rated health status. Conclusions: This study finds that there exist socioeconomic differences in poor health status in Korean. The effect of education is stronger than that of income for both men and women.

Objectives: This study was for analysis the educational needs of personnels who works for hypertension and diabetes centers in community in order to serve as the basis for the development of the future educational programs. Methods: To analyze the educational needs of personnels who wokrs for hypertension and diabetes centers in community, a survey based on CompHP core competencies framework for health promotion was conducted in September 2016. 102 personnels were answered to the online questionnaires and collected data were analyzed through SPSS. Results: The highest point of educational needs was ‘how to use verbal and non-verbal effective communication skills’ among 46 core competencies for health promotion and ‘self-management practical skills for hypertension and diabetes patients’. There were some differences of educational needs between leaders and general staff members of centers. Most wanted educational subjects of leaders are ‘contribute to the development and dissemination of health promotion evaluation and research process’, and ‘use evaluation findings to refine and improve health promotion action’. On the other hand, most general staff members of centers wanted ‘use effective communication skills including written, verbal, non-verbal, and listening skills’ and ‘facilitate the development of personal skills that will maintain and improve health.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the differences of sleep quality, fatigue and depression between school lessons and clinical practicum term in nursing students. Methods: This study was conducted through a survey on 84 4th grade nursing students. Data collection was conducted from April to June, 2015. Participants completed a questionnaire assessing sleep quality, fatigue and depression. Data were analyzed by the SPSS/WIN 21.0 using descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, ANOVAs, Pearson’s correlations and multiple regression. Results: The mean scores of fatigue and depression during the school lesson were significantly high compared to those of the clinical practicum. On the contrary, the score of sleep quality did not showed difference. Sleep quality showed negative correlations with fatigue and depression respectively, and fatigue showed positive correlation with depression. Subjective health status was the influential factor predicting fatigue and depression after school lessons, and subjective health status and major satisfaction were the influential factors predicting fatigue and depression after clinical practicum term. Conclusions: Nursing students showed different characteristics between school lessons and clinical practicum term. Thus, it is essential to identify physical and psychological problems and related factors respectively, then to devise appropriate programs to improve nursing curriculums.

Objectives: This study aimed to provide the high-quality clinical practice environment・ education to students by researching the social support, major satisfaction, and interpersonal ability of dental hygiene students, analyzing factors having influence on the clinical practice satisfaction, and then increasing the satisfaction with clinical practice. Methods: Through the convenience sampling of 312 students who have completed clinical practice among dental hygiene students of three colleges in Gyeonggi province, from April 18th to April 27th 2016. Using SPSS 20.0, it conducted the frequency analysis, descriptive analysis, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and Regression analysis for the collected data. Results: The clinical practice satisfaction was correlated with interpersonal ability(r=0.383, p<.001), social support(r=0.239, p<0.01), subjective health condition(r=0.226, p<0.01), and major satisfaction(r=0.287, p<0.01). When interpersonal ability and social support were high, subjective health condition was good, and major satisfaction was high, the clinical practice satisfaction was also high. Conclusions: Based on the results above, it would be necessary to develop・operate programs reinforcing social support and interpersonal ability of dental hygiene students, and also to make efforts to increase the clinical practice satisfaction of dental hygiene students by establishing measures to increase their major satisfaction.
