Art therapy is one of the most efficient auxiliary practices that uses art in order to relax a patient and treat the symptoms of mental diseases. In this paper, we propose an art therapy expert system using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale to provide art therapy for depression. Herein, we build a knowledge base to define the facts and rules about the unique abstract art painting techniques of Jackson Pollock’s art therapy. The art therapy expert system collects input about the symptoms of a patient and provides an individualized therapeutic program to the patient. The art therapy expert system can be adopted for web applications, mobile applications, or PC applications at an affordable cost.

In this study, the development of Cardioid based graph electrocardiogram heart abnormalities classification technique is presented. ECG signals in this work were attained from a public online database UCD Sleep Apnea database (UCDB) with sampling rate of 250 Hz. Each recording has 60 seconds of electrocardiogram signals. Unique features were extracted using the Pan Tompkins algorithm, later Cardioid based graph was formed as the result of the differentiation process. The various shapes of closed-loop created were then observed. From the Cardioid loop, we evaluated the area and standard deviation to differentiate between normal and abnormal heartbeats. As a result, the area, standard deviation, and mean values of abnormal heartbeat were twice the value of a normal heartbeat thus indicating the differences between two types of heart morphologies. Thus, the output of the study suggests the proof-of-concept of our proposed mechanisms to detect heart abnormalities and has the potential to act as an alternative to the current techniques.

Present mathematical model represents the unsteady blood flow through constricted artery in the presence of velocity slip. Here the rheology of blood is characterized by Bingham plastic fluid model. An appropriate perturbation scheme has been adopted to solve the equations governing the fluid flow when the womerseley frequency parameter is small. Important flow parameters such as velocity, shear stress and flow rate have been computed. Graphical representation shows that the axial velocities, wall shear stress, flow rate decreases when the time increases along the axial distance.

The Healthcare Industry is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing industries, consuming over 10 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) of most developed nations, and has a major impact on any country’s economy. One of the biggest issues the healthcare industry struggles with is Interoperability of Health Information. Central to interoperability is the ability of one healthcare organization task to be "visible" in another healthcare organization. Healthcare tasks usually expressed in an acceptable some standard like HL7 CDA or FHIR. However, it all ends into how one can mobilize interoperability within the fabric of healthcare organizations. In particular how one can implant interoperability within healthcare tasks workflows and their communities of practice. A Community of Practice is a group of people who share a craft, a profession, passion, or a concern and deepen their knowledge and expertise in the area by interacting on an ongoing basis. Each Community is a unique combination of three fundamental elements: a “Domain” of knowledge, which defines a set of issues and can vary from basic know-how to technical expertise; a “Community” of People that care about this domain; and a shared “Practice” that they are developing to be effective in their domain, and is made up of set of frameworks, ideas, tools, styles, languages, stories, and documents that the community members share. We introduce a Community of Practice model for healthcare that we call “Intersecting Communities of Practice”, where the medical practitioners can collaborate and form individual communities to share and exchange discharge summaries between them providing their individual input and contribution, while discussing issues via a “messaging subsystem”, thereby fostering knowledge growth and facilitating better patient-care. We provide an interoperability environment by implementing HL7’s Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) standards.

The present ethnographic study explores the implications of anger in cancer patients in the cultural context of Korea from the perspective of cancer patients, and conducts a cross-cultural investigation to propose a theoretical model that can explain their anger, to develop effective nursing interventions and ultimately to improve cancer patients‟ quality of life. The informants in this study are 9 cancer patients on chemotherapy (6 females and 3 males) who were born and have lived in Korea sharing the Korean culture. Data were collected from January to September, 2008 until the data were saturated. Participant observation and in-depth interviews were used to collect data, which were in turn analyzed with Spradley‟s taxonomic analysis [6]. Taken together, the main cultural themes proved here are the 「insurmountable fate」,「uncontrolled psychological conflicts」, 「treatment processes to be endured」,「unpredictable future」, and 「uncontrolled self-pity」. The theoretical model of cancer patients‟ anger proved the archetype of a thinking cycle in the course of the disease where patients struggle to overcome and break from the cultural themes only to feel outraged about the insurmountable fate and undeniable reality that cannot be addressed even with face saving. In short, a socio-cultural sentiment should be encouraged so that cancer patients can break from the insurmountable fate, accept the course of the disease and receive treatment in a positive manner while expressing the anger effectively in Korean culture where cancer patients‟ anger tends to ebb away inwards and turn into „resentment‟. Also, it is urgent to develop self-help groups where cancer patients can cope with the anger in proper ways.

Early diagnosis of lung cancer plays crucial role in the improvement of patients' chances of survival. Computer aided detection (CAD) system has been a groundbreaking step in the timely diagnosis and identification of potential nodules (lesions). CAD system starts detection process by extracting lung regions from CT scan images, this step narrows down the region for detection. Hence saving the time consumption and reducing false positives outside the lung regions that results in the improvement of specificity of system. Proper lung segmentation significantly increases the performance of CAD systems. Different algorithms are presented by various researchers to improve segmentation results. An intensity based approach is presented in this paper for the segmentation of parenchyma and the goal is to achieve reasonable segmentation results in less time. Algorithm used in this paper is based on the Intensity based thresholding which is the fastest method for image segmentation. Images used in this research to analyze algorithm's result are taken from Lung Image Database Consortium (LIDC). Twenty random cases were picked, each having different number of slices (128 to 300). Algorithm is implemented using MatlabR2014 and a system with processor of 2.6 GHz and RAM of 4 GB. Total time taken for a single case of 128 images was 6.3 seconds and hence with an average of 49 milli sec/slice.

Human beings are living longer these days thanks to developments in medical technology and health care services, and accordingly, the global population is rapidly aging. The increasing aging generation is causing unexpected social problems, one of the most critical of which is government health care costs. Personal gene analysis results and record-based personal health care ICT services should predict and prevent personal diseases while improving wellness. Technically, gene sequencing technology development not only reduces the time to decode genetic information but also decreases the cost. Various disease-related gene mutations have been found, and gene sequencing service is a new paradigm in personal health care. In socioeconomic terms, the proposed service model not only accurately diagnoses diseases to provide effective health care but also reduces government health care costs while promoting personal well-being. In this paper, we propose a PGAR (personal gene analysis record) and PHR (personal health care record)-based personal health care service. We implemented this big data analysis-based health care platform for more accurate disease prediction and prevention. When the personal smart health care ICT service is used, it significantly reduces personal health care costs in hospitals.

Artifacts frequently corrupt biomedical signal recording and processing, therefore, removal of these artifacts from physiological signals is an essential step. The acuteness in the performance of healthcare technology has upgraded from the current hospital-centric environment towards portable ubiquitous approaches. The uncertainty in the subsequent performance of these approaches introduced a dedicated research and past few decades have witnessed considerable improvement. In this research work an enhanced empirical approach to model the artifacts of EEG signal are described. The input EEG is a single channel and is converted into multichannel using Ensemble Empirical Mode decomposition (EEMD) operations and further filtered with Independent Component Analysis and Double Density Wavelet Transform to reject any traces of artifacts left at signal. This proposed algorithm is tested with different evaluation parameters and results pronounce the eligibility of the proposed algorithm to stand on top of currently deployed algorithms because significant improvement in results.

This study has tested an infrared radiation surgical gown (IRSG) and a carbon nanofiber thermal pad (CNTP) to verify the potential of these new warming therapies for the prevention of hypothermia in spinal surgery patients. The study is a quasi-experimental study using the non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The study period was from July 14 to November 30, 2014, and subjects were an IRSG group of 28 patients, a CNTP group of 30 patients and a control group of 28 patients who were admitted to E university hospital in D city to have spinal surgery. The collected data were analyzed using PASW Statistics 20.0. χ²-test and ANOVA were used to test homogeneity among the three groups, and ANCOVA was used to measure temperature changes and subjective thermal discomfort in order to verify the effectiveness of the experimental treatments. As a result, from 75 minutes after tube insert (F = 8.142, p = .001) to the time of its removal (F = 36.825, p<.001), esophageal temperatures in the IRSG group and the CNTP group were significantly higher than in the control group. The three groups had significantly high tympanic temperatures with the CNTP group showing the highest temperatures followed by the IRSG and the control group from the time of entering the recovery room (F = 42.820, p<.001) to 30 minutes after (F = 51.966, p<.001). Also the IRSG group and the CNTP group showed significantly low subjective thermal discomfort at 15 minutes after entering the recovery room (F = 6.737, p = .002). The study has confirmed that IRSG and CNTP applied to spinal surgery patients are effective in preventing hypothermia and reducing thermal discomfort during and after surgery. Warming therapy must be provided to patients undergoing spinal surgery under general anesthesia, and hopefully, IRSG and CNTP will be used as an independent nursing intervention.

The sulfation process on pectin produces a number of sulfate groups replacing hydroxyl groups within low methoxyl pectin (LMP) chains. A structure alteration due to the sulfation process may results in changes in LMP characteristics. The LMP sulfation process was aimed to reach an increase in pectin functionality in terms of bioactivities. To gain sulfated LMP (sLMP) performance, the ionic gelation process was undertaken so as sLMP nanoparticles were obtained through cross-linking reactions with divalent cations. The sulfation process on sLMP was conducted by employing different volume of SO3-DMF solvent. According to the Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy analysis, pectin was successfully sulfated indicated by the presence of –S groups within pectin chains. The sulfation process with solution of SO3-DMF 9.0 mL indicated the best results, i.e. sulfated percentage of 43.63% with the sulfate content of 0.302% and degree of sulfation of 0.0155. Sulfated LMP formed nanoparticles in a formula combination of LMP:sLMP (a ratio of 1:1) with a composition of pectin of 2% and CaCl2 of 0.8%. The nanoparticles of sulfated pectin was relatively stable at cool temperature storage.

With the rapid ageing of Korean society, the number of elderly dementia patients is on a sharp increase. Dementia cannot be cured; so, it has long-term effects not only on patients, but on their main caregivers, too. This descriptive comparative study seeks to analyze differences in the health perception, entrapment, suicidal ideation, and care burden of main caregivers of elderly dementia patients according to depression level and to identify the characteristics of elderly dementia patients. The study subjects are the main caregivers of dementia patients registered in dementia support centers under public health facilities in metropolitan areas. Sixty questionnaire copies were analyzed in this study. The results showed that the main caregivers’ depression status had significant correlations with their entrapment (r=.801), suicidal ideation(r=.495), care burden (.562), health perception(r=-.505), and elderly dementia patients’ hearing (p=.01). Given the study results, prevention and treatment of depression among main caregivers of elderly dementia patients may lower their entrapment, suicidal ideation, and care burden. In addition, since caregivers’ depression is related to elderly dementia patients’ hearing, it is necessary to take into account that relationship.

A ubiquitous healthcare system (UHS) monitors patients with chronic disease and elderly persons all the time, wherever they are, detecting abnormal situations and issuing alarms when patients need immediate medical care. Prompt treatment may prevent a devastating illness. If there is no UHS, a family member or a member of the healthcare staff has to attend the patient all the time. Therefore, running a ubiquitous healthcare system is cost effective. This paper surveys such healthcare systems. A hospital healthcare system (HHS) is a computer system that provides medical staff with a convenient environment where they can perform their work efficiently. Therefore, a UHS should be integrated with the HHS. Furthermore, a mobile medical system consisting of ambulances, a monitoring system, medical equipment, and medical staff, and should also be integrated into the UHS and HHS. This paper suggests a way to integrate these systems.

Mobile communication services have expanded beyond simple voice communication in the past couple of decades into other areas such as commerce, banking, education, and healthcare just to name a few. Due to adoption of wireless communication in these services, people are connected anytime, anyplace, any device, and anywhere. It is also observed that an Average Revenue per User (ARPU) has been dropping for the past few years as voice communication has been commoditized. Telecom operators are providing number of value added services (VAS) to users in the urban and rural sector of India to enhance revenue. Healthcare service is one such area which provides maximum revenue enhancement potential for the operators. Penetration of smartphones, availability of connectivity, and availability of relevant apps are some of the key drivers and enablers for services. The teledensity in the urban sector is over 154% while it is about 51% in the rural sector(TRAI, 2016). This study was undertaken for understanding the present status of the healthcare services in the rural areas and how mobile communication could be used to improve or provide additional services to enhance health in rural population. The healthcare services sector was chosen for the study as 70% of the population of the country is in the rural areas where quality of healthcare services is poor. Improved healthcare services in these areas will have direct impact on productivity and efficiency of people working in farms hence the contribution to the Gross National Product (GDP) of the country. The survey was conducted in three villages surrounding the urban city of Pune. The data is analyzed to study the interdependence of various factors related to present healthcare service system. Recommendations are provided to telecom operators based on the outcome of data analysis.

In the way of personal health assessment is a subjective health evaluation and objective evaluation of this study affect health behavior practices to target a sample of a national scale in order to mitigate the limitations with the existing research on each of the subjective health evaluation, objective health assessment the correlation between health behavior practices impact relationships, behavioral health practice in subjective health evaluation among health assessment and health practices and determine the impact of actions related to objective health assessment to confirm. This research was to find the association preventive health practice behavior using big data to health assessment. Of the preventive health behavior practices we studied, adequate sleep and regular exercise positively influenced self-rated health (SRH), whereas attempts to quit or restrict drinking negatively influenced it. And, of the preventive health behavior practices, the habit of eating breakfast and regular health check-up positively influenced a disease prevalence rate, i.e., an objective assessment of health. The findings suggest that people who make more efforts to quit or restrict drinking are more likely to assess their own health as poor. The finding that a disease prevalence rate increased with such preventive health behavior practices as eating breakfast and getting regular health check-up can be interpreted as showing that those behaviors were required by the physician instruction and the use of medication. The study shows that preventive health behavior practices can have a positive or negative relationship with SRH and also with objective health assessment.

This study is aimed to examine the effect of learning behavior, emotional intelligence, and thinking ability towards the level of accounting understanding. The sample selection is conducted by using purposive sampling method, where data was collected from students of the Faculty of Economics, Universitas Prof. Dr. Moestopo (Beragama) Indonesia in academic years 2011 and 2012. The number of samples used was accounting students from semesters 1 to 5 in total 96 students. The analysis technique used is multiple regressions of SPSS version 20. The results show that the positive and significant influence of learn behavior, emotional intelligence, and thinking ability towards the level of accounting understanding simultaneously. Meanwhile, studying behavioral factors, emotional intelligence, and the ability to think partially measured by habit of reading books, self-knowledge, and the ability to think creatively does not have a significant toward the level of accounting understanding. However, the habit of following lessons, visits to libraries, custom exams, self-control, motivation, empathy, social skills and the ability to think critically can affect significantly to the level of accounting understanding.

For normal shoulder joint movements, sternoclavicular articulation, the acromio-clavicular joint, the glenohumeral joints, and the scapulothoracic joints should be coordinated. For remedial program after arthroscopic surgery for rotator damage, muscle exercise for the rotator should be regarded as an important factor, and clinical approaches should be adopted to promote muscle control and balance. This study was conducted on 30 patients in their 30s and 40s who underwent arthroscopic surgery for supraspinous muscle tendon rupture 4–6 weeks prior; such rupture represents one of the most common types of rotator cuff tear. Four types of remedial treatments—rowing in prone position, Superman ‘T’, prone supported on elbow and pushup with hands—were used to measure the muscle activity of the upper trapezius, lower trapezius, and serratus muscle. Considering all these factors, it was determined that each exercise method led to different muscle activities. No ideal exercise method was found to reduce the muscle activity of upper trapezius muscle and increase that of the lower trapezius and serratus muscle. Therefore, it is considered that each stabilization exercise should be applied in a selective manner based on the patient’s condition and a doctor’s diagnosis.

Lab-on-Chip (LoC) integrates various analyses such as biochemical operations, chemical synthesis, DNA sequencing onto a single chip which otherwise would have been performed in laboratory taking sufficient amount of time. Due to the miniaturization of these biochemical operations, better diagnostic speed, cost efficiency, ergonomy, sensitivity and so on can be achieved. This paper gives the detailed description of Lab-on-Chip technology including its system components. Ongoing worldwide research projects based on LoC technology have been investigated and various constraints that need to be fulfilled for designing a LoC system are presented. The biomedical applications of LoC in different fields like in diagnostics, cellomics, in environmental studies to control the effect of pathogens, to check the food quality such as for the detection of various antibiotic families in raw milk have also been discussed. Finally, the current open research issues of this technology along with the possible future research scope in the biomedical area have been presented.

The objective of this study is to verify the effects of diversional therapy targeting the patients who underwent orthopedic operations on the patients’ anxiety and vital signs. The experimental group watched the video that a patient selected wearing screen glasses during an operation under local anesthesia. The control group received midazolam 0.5mg/kg (usual handling) through operation surgeon’s prescription, and intravenous infusion was conducted during an operation. The State Trait Anxiety Inventory, visual analog scale of anxiety, and vital signs were measured before and after the operation. The state anxiety score of the experimental group decreased, and there was no significant difference. And the anxiety (VAS) score, the experimental group’s score decreased. The control group’s score decreased, and there was no significant difference. No significant difference in vital signs was found between two groups. This means that the non-pharmacological therapy wearing screen glasses is not inferior to the pharmacological therapy using midazolam in terms of the effects of intervening in anxiety. The diversional therapy using screen glasses is safe, cost-effective, and is a pleasant alternative therapy for patients, and is expected to be an independent nursing intervention.

The purpose of this study was to determine if self-rated oral health differed according to self-reported oral health behaviors in Korean adolescents. The raw data of ‘The 6th Youth Health Behavior Online Survey' carried out by the Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention were analyzed. Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Logistic regression analysis were used to assess the relationships between oral health behaviors and self-rated oral health (n = 73,238). Oral health behaviors had stronger influence on daily toothbrushing habits. In particular, participants who brushed their teeth in the morning and participants who brushed their teeth more than 3 times a day were more likely to have good self-rated oral (p<.001). Korean adolescents with high self-rated oral health reported practicing good oral health behaviors. These results highlight the need for the further practicable oral health education programs.
