A series of non-free hydride reducing systems containing boron or aluminum atom, which possess no metal-hydride bond but an available hydrogen at a branched β-position, has been applied to the selective reduction (chemo--, regio-, and stereoselective reduction) of organic compounds. The systems, comprised of diisopinocampheylborane and diisobutylalane derivatives, exhibited almost perfect selectivities in the reduction of aldehydes and ketones. The characteristics features of this systems leading to a perfect transformation have been depicted in this report, especially in the 1) Reduction of α,β-Unsaturated Carbonyl Compounds to Allylic Alcohols via 1,2-Reduction, 2) Chemoselective Reduction between Structurally Different Carbonyl Compounds, and 3) Stereoselective Reduction of Cyclic Ketones.

Some Korean terminologies on reproductive structures of seed plants in plant morphology, written incorrectly in many books, were analysed to propose accurately expressed terminologies. 31 books in areas such as general biology, plant biology, plant morphology, and biological dictionaries and glossaries were selected to analyse the accuracy of the terminologies for reproductive structures in gymnosperms, e.g., cone or strobilus, seed (or ovulate) cone and pollen cone, and conifer(s) or coniferous plants, and for flower structures in angiosperms, e.g., corolla, anther, filament, pistillate (or female) flower and staminate (or male) flower, apocarpous, and syncarpous. The definition and etymology of the terminologies were traced in 4 textbooks of plant anatomy and 2 dictionaries of biology and botany written in English. On the basis of the definition, etymology, and principles for terminology formation according to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 704:2000), reasonably expressed Korean terminologies were proposed. All of the 8 terminologies examined in this study were included in the glossary of biological terminologies, published by the Korean Association of Biological Sciences in 2005, and designated as an editorial source for science and biology textbooks for middle and high schools by Ministry of Education in 2007. However, the only 1 of the 8 terminologies described in the glossary were consistent with the proposed expression in the present study. These inconsistencies indicated the need for a reassessment of this glossary of biological terminologies. The newly proposed terminologies would facilitate mutual understanding between teachers and students of plant biology.

Optical images based on the porous silicon exhibiting photoluminescence have been prepared from an electrochemical etching of n-type silicon wafer (boron-doped,<100> orientation, resistivity 1~10 Ω-cm) by using a beam projector. The images remained in the substrate displayed an optical images correlating to the optical pattern and could be useful for optical data storage. This provides the ability to fabricate complex optical encoding in the surface of silicon.

Multiple rugate structures can be etched on a silicon wafer and placed in the same physical location, showing that many sharp spectral lines can be obtained in the optical reflectivity spectrum. Porous silicon samples were prepared by electrochemical etch of heavily doped p-type silicon wafers. The etching solution consisted of a 3:1 volume mixture of aqueous 48% hydrofluoric acid and absolute ethanol. Galvanostatic etch was carried out in a Teflon cell by using a twoelectrode configuration with a Pt mesh counterelectrode. A sinusoidal current density waveform varying between 51.5 and 74.6 mA/cm2 is applied. The anodization current was supplied by a Keithley 2420 high-precision constant current source which is controlled by a computer to allow the formation of PSi multilayer.

Ad hoc network는 무선 노드들의 집합으로서 어떤 인프라스트럭처 도움 없이 그들 서로가 multi-hop 경로를 통해 통신한다. 본 논문에서는 ad hoc network에서 사용되는 proactive 라우팅 프로토콜과 on-demand 라우팅 프로토콜의 혼합인 hybrid 라우팅 프로토콜에 대해 제안하였다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 hybrid 라우팅 프로토콜인 ZRP와는 달리 Ad hoc network를 구성하는 노드들 중에 네트워크 서비스를 제공해주는 특별한 노드를 설정하여 라우팅 하는 방법을 제안한다. 이러한 역할을 해주는 특별한 노드를 본 논문에서는 C-Node라 부른다. C-Node를 이용한 라우팅으로 기존의 라우팅 프로토콜보다 경로 설정 시간과 flooding 시간을 줄이므로서 효율적인 라우팅을 수행할 수 있게된다.

A new porous silicon (PSi) microcavity sensor for the detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) was developed. PSi microcavity sensor exhibiting unique reflectivity was successfully obtained by an electrochemical etching of silicon wafer. When PSi was fabricated into a structure consisting of two high reflectivity muktilayer mirrors separated by an active layer, a microcavity was formed. This PSi microcavity is very sensitive structures. Reflection spectrum of PSi microcavity indicated that the full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) was of 10 nm and much narrower than that of fluorescent organic molecules or quantum dot. The detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using PSi microcavity was achieved. When the vapor of VOCs condensed in the nanopores, the refractive indices of entire particle increased. When PSi microcavity was exposed to acetone, ether, and toluene, PSi microcavity in reflectivity was red shifted by 28 nm, 33 nm, and 20 nm for 2 sec, respectively.

A silaspirotropylidene has been obtained from the reaction of the lithium salt of tetraphenylsilole dianion with 2 equiv of diphenylcyclopropene, followed by quenching with Me3SiCl. Silaspirotropylidene exhibits an unusual optical property its optical property was characterized by UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. Absorption wavelength maxima of silaspirotropylidene was 420 nm. silaspirotropylidene displayed an emission band at 550 nm with excitation wavelength of 420 nm.

In general the Banach space L1(T1) doesn’t admit convergence in norm. Thus the convergence in norm of the partial sums can not be characterized in terms of Fourier coefficients without additional assumptions about the sequence. The problem of L1(T1)-convergence consists of finding the properties of Fourier coefficients such that the necessary and sufficient condition for (1.2) and (1.3). This paper showed that let {ak}∈BV and ξΔaξ = o(1), ξ→∞. Then (1.1) is a Fourier series if and only if {ak}∈Γ.

Easy and simple synthesis of CdSe nanocrystals was achieved through sol-gel process. CdSe nanocrystals were synthesized from the reaction of cadmium oxide and selenium in the prescence of trioctylphosphine oxide, tributylphosphine, octadecene, octadecylamine, and stearic acid. The effect of reaction temperature for the determination of size of CdSe nanocrystals was investigated after the addition of selenium. The reaction temperature for the growth of CdSe nanocrystals was increased by every 20oC from 170 to 190, 210, 230, 250, 270, and 290oC. When the reaction temperature was higher, the absorption wavelength in the absorption spectrum was increased which indicated that the size of CdSe nanocrystals was increased. The emission wavelength in the photoluminescence spectrum was increased from 438 to 489, 542, 591, 643, 692, and 745 nm, as the size of CdSe nanocrystals was increased. The control of the reaction temperature illustrated that the color tuning of emission wavelength were successfully obtained.
