Graph-based Image Sharpening Filter Applied to Image Denoising

The present paper focuses on a new class of mesh filter for grayscale images, called grid smoothing filter. The framework presented considers an image as a sampling grid associated to a set of gray levels. Furthermore, the sampling grid is seen as mesh composed by vertices and edges, the number of vertices being equal to the number of pixels in the image. Embedding the mesh in a 2D Euclidian space, each vertex has two spatial coordinates and one attribute, the value of the gray level. Starting from the classical formulation of Laplacian mesh filtering, a novel objective function is introduced. The minimization of the objective function leads to new spatial coordinates for the vertices in the mesh. A reconstruction mechanism is then applied to the non-uniform mesh to reconstruct a grayscale image. Whereas the Laplacian mesh filter aims at smoothing an image, the grid smoothing tends at sharpening the edges of the image. The grid smoothing framework is applied to image enhancement in this paper.

Technology if left alone can’t evolve, merging of technologies leads to creation of a hybrid which paves the way for the future. This paper elaborates the convergence of a system which measures mechanical parameters and a telecommunication network. AIVA stands for Advanced Intelligent Vehicular Analytics which will record all the vehicular diagnostic data using OBD-II scan tool program and then wirelessly transmit the data to a central server thereby creating a database of the vehicular data. The database created will be used from the business point of view to generate applications using Web 3.0 architecture. An Interactive Graphical Interface (IGUI) for a cellular phone will be developed so that the owner of a particular vehicle will get real time live update of the vehicle’s health. A semantic web of data would be generated to facilitate further progress in this field. This way the owner will know the fault in the vehicle and when to take the vehicle to the service station.

Effective change management requires continual assessment of the potential change impact and the organization's willingness and ability to adopt the next wave of transformation. Naturally, no change management program goes completely according to the plan: people tend to react in unexpected ways; areas of anticipated resistance may fall away; and the external environment may shift. However, supported by solid decision-making processes and using the up-to-date information from the field, the change leaders usually make the adjustments necessary to maintain momentum and drive overall business results.

RFID (radio frequency identification) is one of the system solutions for tracking and tracing objects both globally and locally using RFID tags. It is an auto-ID procedure for identifying objects automatically within a geographical area. It allows information about an object to be collected automatically without having to handle the object or enter its data manually. RFID uses tags which communicate information by radio wave through antennae on small computer chips attached to objects so that such objects may be identified, located, and tracked. This technology has found a significant areas of application in business supply chains, in medical line, in security applications, and in fact many areas of human endeavor. As Auto-ID and RFID technologies are developing at an alarming rate around the world with new information appearing daily, particularly on the Internet, this paper aims to describe the technology of RFID, the areas of applications of this technology particularly in industries, security and health care management and the potential benefits of adopting the technology. The overall aim of the paper is to sensitize Nigeria to start tapping this technology for national development and security.
