An Empirical Study of Writing Effective User Stories

Software requirements should be accurately captured in the form of user stories so that development teams are able to meet customer expectations for the software. This study investigates the various challenges in capturing requirements of the agile scrum methodology and proposes some improvements. A user story writing workshop was conducted based on a standard set of business requirements. The resulting user stories were analyzed for correctness and problem areas were identified. Then a separate industry survey was conducted to confirm that the problem areas found in this workshop are indeed the common problem areas for industry practitioners. A set of improvements were then identified to address the problem areas. A second workshop was then conducted to check whether the improvements actually result in better user story writing. The results of the second workshop suggest that the improvements were quite effective in resolving most of the problem areas. They can thus be adopted by industry practitioners as best practices.

The current circumstances of English education in Korea are undergoing a sudden change due to the dissemination of ICT (information communication technology) and the application of criterion-referenced evaluation in the CSAT (College Scholastic Ability Tests). Catering to this change, this study is supposed to discover the reliable approach of teaching, learning, and evaluation, in which communicative language teaching is expected to be realized, and the proper training course for English teachers. It is the effects of the application of criterion-referenced evaluation in the CSAT, training models for English teachers, the teachers’ competence required in the future, and how to reinforce it has been approached in this study, thereby establishing the desirable direction of training course for English teachers. First, the current evaluation system, norm-referenced evaluation, should be substituted for criterion-referenced evaluation based on the practical analysis on teaching, learning and evaluation. Second, the evaluation should follow the direction; from ‘collective-standardized’ to ‘various-individualized’, from ‘product-centered’ to ‘process-centered’, from ‘traditional paper test’ to ‘various examination via ICT’. Third, based on the analysis on the reality and system of current English teacher training, the training circumstance appropriate for communicative language teaching should be prepared under criterion-referenced evaluation. Fourth, based on the analysis of the reality and the system of current English teacher training, the right direction of training appropriate for the changed paradigm should be established.

The Characteristics of Sea Water Quality Change of Fishing Port in East Coast of Korea Using GIS

In an attempt to understand changes in sea environment owing to constructing fishing port in the Eastern Sea ports, by comparing the data from Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on 2006 and those obtained from post-Environmental Impact Assessment (post-EIA), the impact of the construction on the sea environment, and the temporal and spatial distributions of sea environmental parameters were analyzed. After analyses, it could be found that the values were increased in all the items except pH, influencing nutritional salts (T-N, T-P) and SS mostly with the severest degrees. Although the heavy metals except Hg were detected since construction, the values were lower than the standard ones stipulated in the environmental standards in areas of the sea (standards for short periods in the light of protecting sea environment). Furthermore, the fact that heavy metals were detected after beginning offshore breakwater construction, although the heavy metal concentrations were lower than the criteria from sea water environmental standard, means that the port facility construction influence the concentration of heavy metals in the seawater.

Big Data Performance Evaluation Analysis Using Apache Pig

While companies' usage of big data products increases, the question of which big data architecture is the most suitable to the company's needs is rising. This study presents an approach of running multiple processes which simulates preliminary data processing of sale transactions input dataset using Apache Pig, in order to find the best performing big data environment in terms of decentralization level over the HDFS. The case study approach can provide companies an additional tool for understanding the required investment on hardware or cloud computing resources. We analyze which decentralization level achieves the best processing time, and explore the behavior of performance's change according to the change in decentralization level and performance change according to the change in the size of the input dataset. The case study's insights are: When processing the same data flow over the same input dataset, processing time performance is better as long as decentralization level increases; As long as decentralization level increases the change between performances decreases significantly; Processing the same Pig data flow under the same scale of decentralization level over large input dataset performs better then processing it over a smaller input dataset - in terms of processing time per volume unit; As blocks-data nodes ratio becomes higher, the processing time becomes longer, and vice versa.

Internet of Things (IoT) is a relatively new technology innovation that will give a huge influence to consumers’ daily life. This research aims to explain the consumer attitude and behavioral intention of IoT service based on the dual-factor theory and technology paradox theory. A path analysis was conducted to evaluate the causal relationships of the model. Causal relationships help us to understand, predict, and plan. Overall, the empirical findings suggest that satisfiers give positive influences to satisfaction. However, the negative relationships between dissatisfiers and satisfaction are not supported in general. Finally, the results don’t support the use of the technology paradox theory as an explainer in the context of IoT service. This research encourages the researcher to pay more attention to the complex attitude of consumer who consider IoT service adoption.

Nowadays, every vendor and IT service provider wants to switch into a cloud environment for better Quality of Service (QoS), Scalability, Performance and reasonable Cost. Many software developers trying to get the benefits of cloud computing and want to access the cloud environments at low cost and easy access. For this rationale and real-time cloud services, a reliable virtual platform is required. Many issues are encountering in development and deployment of these platforms regarding programming models, application architecture, APIs and services it provided. On the other hand, there are too many issues on the client side, including the limitation of tools, the interaction between client and service provider and user requirements in a specific cloud. As the cloud is inherently distributed environment, so it fabricates gaps in communication and coordination between stack holders. To cope with these obstacles and overcome challenges during software development in Cloud Computing, it is necessary to have a framework which resolves the issues and develop the software process model which meet the user requirement and provide quality of services within a time and budget. In this paper, the literature review mainly focuses on the software process model with their strength and weakness. The literature review also analyzes some attributes for software life cycle including cost, time, scalability and QoS.

In the modern society, as the quality of life has been improving and social interest in health and well-being has been increasing, the importance of exercise has been emphasized so that many people actively participate in exercise and conduct many studies on physical activities and exercise. Therefore, in the present study, the lower extremities that are closely related to walking out of the body and can be easily damaged during daily living or sports activities were selected to conduct experiments to apply functional massage and stretching to the lower extremities of adults with insufficient lower extremity exercise in order to compare immediate effects with a view to making activities good before starting daily living or outdoor activities, or sports activities. The subjects were divided into a functional massage group(n: 30) and a stretching group(n: 30) and the participants participated in the experiment through voluntary applications after firsthand hearing explanations about the experiment from the therapist. In order to examine differences in the effects of the intervention between the Functional massage and stretching groups, the independent samples t-test and paired t-tests were performed. An experiment was conducted with functional massage and the results showed statistically significant differences in all comparison items. This may mean that the improvement of overall lower extremity functions and the intervention method stretching could be also regarded to be a very effective method for improvement of lower extremity functions.

Learning Context Research for Flexible Display User Scenario Development

The smart learning has appeared with the recent changes in the educational environment. As it has no limitations of time or location and can be intellectually customized or utilized in a group intelligent study through sharing and cooperation, it is expected to provide the effective mobility, collectivity, and adaptability experiences through the application of the flexible display techniques. So in this research, the learning contexts in the current educational field were studied to develop the near future learning environment scenarios in which the flexible displays were applied. A user survey was conducted and the results were made into a context map of the lecturing, cooperative, experiential and independent learning types. Then, the problems and needs in these learning types were identified through the context analysis to improve the smart learning environment. By applying the flexible displays, the insights were derived to maximize the mobility, collectivity, and adaptability experiences and the examples were suggested. Therefore, a system was established through the context study to better understand the complicated learning structures and organize the combined learning models and it has great significance for the suggestion of the flexible display’s application directions.

This study develops the process to determine the transportation equipment and the transportation time to handle unload requests of a lot and the buffer’s load requests in a semiconductor line where groups of similar equipment with similar functions are grouped in the bay. The transporter covered in this paper is multi-load transporter capable of transporting multiple lots, and uses information on the availability of the transporter to select transporter and transportation time, as well as using information on transportation time from the starting point to departure point, and future transportation schedule. The expected results of this study is the reduction of the average flow time of the lot, average vehicle utilization, average WIP level during operation, and maximum stocker inventory level as well as assuring the efficient use of transporters.
