A Measuring Instrument for Off-road Vehicle Performance Testing

An overall description of a measuring instrument, wheel force transducer (WFT), developed for off-road vehicle performance testing is presented in the paper. For the research of off-road vehicle performance, it is important to determine the forces and torques as a response of the interaction between the wheel and the terrain. The WFT developed provides a solution of the direct measurement of the physical quantities. The WFT was designed as an automatic real-time data acquisition device with the wireless transmission technology. In the aspect of mechanical structure, only minor modifications of the wheel rim and two flanges were required for the installation of the WFT. The elastomeric of the sensor was designed with excellent mechanical strength for wheeled vehicles of weights ranging from 1.2 to 15 ton. Field tests were conducted after static calibration and dynamic calibration. The WFT was installed on the two front wheels of a 1.6-tone weight car. In preliminary field test, various vehicle maneuvers were executed for the validation of the validity, reliability and accuracy of the whole system, which was demonstrated by the test results. Six kinds of special testing pavements were selected to simulate the off-road situations. From the results, great potential of the WFT system is indicated in the application of off-road vehicle performance testing.

This paper proposes a user interface control framework of sexual violence prevention education Apps. To conduct the control of the properties of UI elements such as colors and sizes, the frequency, the utilization, the relationship of UI elements are considered. In the experiment, the application, “Sexual violence! How should I do?”, was utilized applying the proposed framework. The sizes of the buttons of the application was resized based on the data of the utilization of four subjects.

The Optimal Guaranteed Cost Control of Tractor-semitrailer Steering Stability

The Gim tire model was adopted to set up the nonlinear dynamic model of tractor-semitrailer. Choosing the slip angle of tractor, the yaw velocity of tractor, the yaw velocity of semitrailer, and the angle between tractor and semitrailer as control variables, as well as considering the uncertain characteristic of the tire cornering stiffness, the optimal guaranteed cost control scheme was proposed. An optimal guaranteed cost controller of DYC for the tractor-semitrailer stability was developed based on model following technique. Based on the established nonlinear dynamic model, simulation in Matlab/Simulink software environment was described. The simulation results suggest that for the tractor-semitrailer with optimal guaranteed cost controller of DYC, the handling and stability performance on big slip angle is improved. The conclusion can be useful for the system design of tractor-semitrailer.

Design and Implementation of Complex Filter for GPS Receiver

The paper proposes fourth order Butterworth complex filter for the Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver, which the center frequency of complex filter is 2MHz and bandwidth is 2 MHz. The operational amplifier (OPA) is designed as twostage fully differential OPA. The gain bandwidth (GBW) of operation amplifier reaches 300MHz, the gain of the DC is 58.3dB, the phase margin is 57 and the power of dissipation of operational amplifier is smaller than 0.56mW. The complex filter is implemented in BCD 0.18 um CMOS process. Simulation shows that the pass-band is between 1MHz and 3MHz, pass-band gain is 0.592dB, the image rejection ratio of the complex filter is more than -48dB and power consumption is about 4.485mW. The parameters of the complex filter are suitable for GPS receiver.

This study examined the predictability of harvested amounts of agricultural products by using the technology of a sensor network. For the prediction of harvested amounts of agricultural products in a fruit farm, the containers made for exclusive transportation of agricultural products were equipped with context aware sensor tags and a context aware communication module was implemented. The implemented system was installed on-site at the fruit farm to examine the data of the amount of harvested agricultural products carried by the containers from the farm to each storage location to provide the methods to predict the harvested amount of agricultural products. Results obtained from the empirical experiment showed the recognition of contents in each container. Reliability of communication between sensors and communication unit were essential for the prediction of harvested amount of agricultural products.

Effect of Near-Side on-Line Bus Stop on Signalized Intersection Capacity

In order to estimate the capacity of signalized intersection more exactly, this paper improves the bus blockage adjustment factor calculating model of HCM2010. The research is mainly focused on the near-side on-line bus stop. Based on the traffic flow theory and probability theory, the signalized intersection capacity is analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Three kinds of land-use of the bus loading lane were considerate. Then the study on the factors and its sensitivity analysis about the impact on the capacity due to the bus stop has been conducted. The results show that both the distance between the bus stop and intersection stop line and the arrival rate of the bus loading lane affect the signalized intersection capacity greatly. The distance between the bus stop and intersection stop line should be long enough to accommodate the queue length of the vehicles arrived during red time.

A Topology Control Method with Prediction of Lossy Links in Cluster Based Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

Many effects have been applied to maintain the stable topology and increase the stability of the Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks (MANET). Traditional Topology control mechanisms fail to consider lossy links which provide only probabilistic connectivity. The existing methods such as cooperative communication, Distributed Topology Control method, and Joint authentication control method have not ensured the survivability of a node. The high possibility of a link breakdown due to low energy in ad-hoc networks causes the cluster head selection issues with regard to achieving the best possible service reliability. We propose Cluster Dependent Topology Control (CDTC) Framework, which provides the ability to elect a cluster head by taking few metrics such as the residual energy of the cluster head, the lifetime of a cluster head within a cluster and network reachability. We attempt to find the minimal survivability of nodes under the conditions of the dynamic movement of individual nodes which will ensure that a set of mobile nodes form a connected network. Our proposed method is on-demand, which balances link failure, improves the network connectivity, and prolongs the lifetime of MANETs.

Flow Field Simulation and Experimental Investigation of Ultrasonic Vibration Assisted EDM Holes Array

Debris distribution in the bottom and side gap significantly affects machining performance of electrical discharge machining (EDM) of holes array. Therefore, the mechanisms of debris distribution and velocity field of flow field in the discharge gap between tool electrode and work piece during EDM process should be investigated. However, these mechanisms have not been fully understood because it is difficult to observe debris distribution process. In this paper, a two-dimensional model of flow field with liquid and debris phase for the bottom and side gap in ultrasonic assisted EDM of holes array was created by computational fluid dynamics. The debris distribution and velocity field of flow field in the bottom and side gap during an ultrasonic vibration cycle was investigated through the numerical simulation. The results show that holes in the center of the array are larger than those at the periphery, which is caused by difference of debris distribution. Machining experiments were conducted to verify the simulation results of debris distribution during EDM of holes array.

Research on the Design of Multi-Core Embedded System Based on Microblaze

In this paper, MicroBlaze processor is adopted to multi-core embedded systems. The whole system is connected with FSL bus, and the hybrid structure of mutex and mailbox is adopted in the communication between the two cores. Embedded multi-core system is mapped into FPGA, and the feasibility and practicability of the system are verified. Experimental results show that the system not only has good practicability, and has high-speed communication performance between the two processors.
