This study was identify the relationship between the depression of andolescents and Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile and Perceived Health Status, to detect the impact of the depression on the health of adolescents, and to produce the basic information necessary to develop a prevention program for the depression and to plan for a health promotion program. This study was designed as a cross-sectional study, and the subjects were the second-grade students of high schools located in the city of K in Kyung Gi Province, South Korea, who are chosen through convenience sampling. Out of total 282 subjects, 276 analyzed swered the questionnarires (98.2%) of high school students. The data were collected for 11 days between December 26 and December 31, 2005, through the self-reported questionnaires. There were 27 questions for the depressions, 60 questions for Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile that were developed by Park In Sook et al, 4 questions for Perceived Health Status that were proposed as the Health Self Rating Scale, and 11 questions for general characteristics, thus totaling 102 questions. All the measuring tools in the questionnaires were approved in terms of validation. As to the statistical analysis, we selected frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, t-test, ANOVA analysis, Spearman's correlation analysis, by using the SAS 8.1Ⓡ Analysis program. The significance level was 0.05. The results of this study are as follows: Firstly, The average score of the subject's depression was 17.8±7.8. The average score of the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile variable was 140.2±22.0. Second, There was a statistically significant correlation between Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile and the depression (r-0.4998). there was a statistically significant correlation between Perceived Health Status and depression (r-0.5225). Third, Under the control of other variables, the depression Score was statistically significant for the subjects' Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile and Perceived Health Status (p<0.0001). Except fragmentary reports on the prevalence of the depression in adolescents, there have been almost no studies in which the researchers concretely related the depression to health. Despite the limitations as a cross-sectional study and in the representativeness of the subjects, this study identified that the Internet Addiction had a (negatively) close association with Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile and Perceived Health Status, and suggested that the addiction could have a negative effect on the health of adolescents.

An extended life span has made people in general pay more attention to the importance of health as what affects the quality of life, and that also has contributed to having their health-related financial burden and pain compounded. The purpose of this study was to assess the quality of the general health related lives of adults in an attempt to help formulate more efficient health-care policies and programs, to improve the health care of adults and ultimately to further their quality of life. The subjects in this study were adults who were under 65 across the nation in Western age. They were selected by using a table of random numbers from a KTF directory, and a self-administered survey was conducted by mail from March through June, 2006. Their answer sheets were gathered by mail, too. Dental hospitals and clinics that the selected people used were asked to provide information on their oral health status. Those who didn't use any dental hospitals or clinics were helped by this researcher to be tested by dentists or by dental hygienists under the supervision of dentists after dental institutions that were accessible to them were selected. 1,500 questionnaires were handed out, and the answer sheets from 586 people were gathered (response rate 39%). The collected data were analyzed with SPSS/PC WIN 12.0 program. The major findings of the study were as follows; 1. As for the reliability of SF-36, an inventory of evaluating the quality of health-related life, Cronbach's alpha of it ranged from 0.7 to 0.9. 2. Concerning relations between their oral health state and the quality of life related to general health and oral health, a higher quality of life was led by those whose occlusal conditions were normal, whose dental calculus was less and who had a less number of missing teeth and prosthetic tooth. And the gap between them and the others was statistically significant. Missing teeth made a difference to the quality of life related to oral health by approximately 12 to 15 scores when the rate of missing teeth accounted for 30 percent or less. The number of prosthetic teeth made little difference to the quality of life, but the denture wearers were different from the others in the quality of life related to oral health by about 17 to 29 scores. 3. As for connections between oral health state and the quality of life related to general health, those whose occlusal conditions were normal were in good shape, and dental calculus was closely tied into general health in five subcategories except for that of physical pain. 4. Regarding connections between the general characteristics of the subjects and their quality of life related to health, those who were male, who were younger, who were better educated and who had a larger monthly mean income, led a higher-quality of life in association with general health and oral health. And the gap between them and the others was statistically significant. 5. Their gender had the biggest impact on their quality of life related to general health, followed by age, the number of prosthetic tooth, the number of missing teeth and monthly mean income.

With the object of providing basic information for developing materials of community oral health education in order that community residents have knowledge of oral health and acquire correct oral health attitude and practice, this study sampled 124 from 130 visitors at the Scaling Practice Room of the Dental Hygiene Department of A University during the period from September 15 to December 5, 2008, excluding those who had a systematic disease and under outpatient treatment and those who had 23 or fewer natural teeth (taking orthodontic extractions into account), and with the sample, we performed oral examination, measured oral malodor, OHI and PHP, and conducted a survey on oral health behavior and oral health perception using a self‐administered questionnaire. Conclusions drawn from this study are as follows. 1. Of the subjects, 46.0% brushed their teeth twice a day, and according to gender, and 42.1% of the female subjects brushed their teeth twice a day. This shows that women brush their teeth more frequently than men. 2. With regard to the use of oral health products, 19.4% of the subjects were using oral health products, and according to gender, 20.9% of the female subjects and 17.5% of the male subjects were using oral health products. The most frequently used product was toothpick, which was used by 45.8% of the subjects. 3. With regard to experience in scaling, 47.6% of the subjects had an experience in scaling, and according to gender, 52.2% of the female subjects and 42.1% of the male subjects had an experience in scaling, so the percentage was somewhat higher in the female subjects. With regard to oral health condition after scaling, 62.7% replied that scaling improved their oral health condition. 4. With regard to interest in teeth, 46.3% of the female subjects and 45.6% of the male subjects were interested in their teeth. As to reasons for the interest, 47.5% mentioned a cosmetic purpose. According to gender, 41.8% of the female subjects and 59.6% of the male subjects replied that they had oral malodor. 5. In the results of examining the relation between experience in oral health education and tooth brushing method, tooth brushing up‐and‐down and side‐to‐side was most frequent in both of those with experience in oral health education (52.6%) and those without (33.3%). Those who brushed their teeth side‐to‐side were relatively more frequent among those without experience in oral health education (34.0%). The results of this suggest that oral health behavior and oral health perception are very important, and it is necessary to enhance community residents’ interest in and knowledge of oral health. Furthermore, there should be periodical management and education for improving community residents’ oral health. A limitation of this study is that the subjects of this study were limited to visitors at the Scaling Practice Room of A University, so the results may not be generalized. Thus, it is considered necessary to survey community residents’ oral health behavior and oral health perception with a larger number of subjects sampled from extensive areas.

Dental plaque is one of the major causes of periodontal diseases, and the management of dental plaque is the best way to prevent periodontal diseases. There are two ways to take care of dental plaque. One is self-care, and the other is professional care. Self-care isn't efficient enough to ensure the perfect control of dental plaque, and assistance from dentists or dental hygienists is required. The purpose of this study was to make a case analysis of the application of a professional dental plaque management program by a dental clinic in an attempt to lay the solid foundation for the settlement of systematic dental plaque control programs. A case study was implemented from May 8, 2006 to August 29, 2008. The subject was a male patient who was at the age of 43. 1. In the first dental examination, his plaque index(O'Leary index), BOP(bleeding upon probing) and supra & subgingiva calculus rate were all 100 percent. His pocket depth was 2 to 7mm, and there was a deeper pocket in part, which was 5 to 7mm in depth. 2. After the program was applied, he showed an improvement in the plaque index(O'Leary index), BOP, supra & subgingiva calculus rate and pocket depth, which respectively dropped to 25 percent, 31.3 percent, 8.9 percent and from 3mm. 3. When he paid a revisit a year and five months later, however, his plaque index (O'Leary index) was 28.2 percent, which showed that he didn't pay careful attention to dental plaque self-care. He bled less in the revisit than in the second examination immediately after the application of the program, as his BOP was 16 percent. But the pocket depth was of 4 to 6mm, which was deeper than it was in the first examination. It meant that he had a return of the periodontal disease.
