C College of Health develops and operates NCS based curriculum to educate and train dental hygienists to prepare for field work. This study lasted from August to December of 2015 and targeted 51 sophomores from dental hygiene department of C College of health located in a metropolitan city who enrolled in oral prophylaxis course without NCS. The results of this study are as follows. 1. The factors that were scored highest in evaluation of preparedness before class were importance of the course 4.76±0.51, appropriateness of instruction method 4.39±0.66, and appropriateness of course objectives 4.35±036. 2. The factor that was scored highest in evaluation of achievement after class were appropriateness of instruction method 4.74±0.52, while the lowest item was academic achievement 4.43±0.75. 3. Comparison of satisfaction before and after class revealed that all 4 factors (appropriateness of lesson plan, instruction method, method of performance evaluation, and operation of non-regular courses) were significantly high after class (p=0.001, p=0.001, p=0.000, p=0.002). Based on the study's results, it is considered appropriate for oral prophylaxis course to actively reflect students' demands and industrial settings in its NCS based curriculum.

Oral health literacy is major determinant of oral health, and it is significant to understand oral health literacy among adults and its related factors. This study targeted 253 visitors to dental hygiene practice laboratory in dental hygiene department of C College of health located in a metropolitan city from February to June of 2013. REALD-66, a tool for linguistic oral health literacy, was used to investigate oral health literacy. The results of this study are as follows. 1. Words that were least comprehended were hypoplasia(10.7%), enamel(10.3%), cavity(8.3%), fistula(7.5), and apicectomy(4.8%), in the order of difficulty. 2. 50.6% of the subjects scored 0-44 (not enough or low), showing grade school level of literacy. 3. Predictors of oral health literacy were usage of oral hygiene products(p=0.020), and experience of oral health education(p=0.022). The results of this study reveal poor oral health literacy among adults and encourage creating opportunities for oral health education.

This study aimed to examine the quality of life related to oral health of cooks in the Bu-san and Gyeong-nam regions in order to raise awareness among them about the importance of oral health in improving their quality of life. For this purpose, this study used the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14). It selected and surveyed a convenience sample of cooks from August 1 to December 31, 2014. A self-reported questionnaire was administered to the participants, and a total of 282 questionnaires were used for the final analysis. The following are the results of this study conducted to improve cooks’ quality 1. In terms of gender, women had a better quality of life than men. With regard to age and educational background, cooks in their 20s and two-year college graduates showed a higher level of quality of life. Single cooks had a better quality of life than the married ones. Further, in terms of income, those with an income between one and two million Korean won showed a higher quality of life related to oral health (p<0.05). 2. Regarding occupational characteristics, help cooks showed the highest level of quality of life. In terms of years of service, cooks who had been working for under a year showed the highest quality of life. Further, it was found that those with a high level of job satisfaction showed a higher quality of life related to oral health (p<0.05). 3. With regard to subjective oral health factors, those who did not experience tooth damage and those who had no stress after trauma had a higher quality of life related to oral health (p<0.05). Through these abovementioned results, it was found that the general life characteristics, occupational characteristics, general health factors, and oral health factors of cooks had correlations with their quality of life related to oral health. Therefore, it is necessary to develop oral health management and education programs considering the occupational characteristics and other factors of cooks in order to improve their quality of life related to oral health.

The purpose of this study was to examine the self-efficacy of dental hygiene students in a college located on Jeju Island, their satisfaction with major and the impact of the regional characteristics of the island on their self-efficacy and satisfaction with major. A survey was conducted from November 28 to December 5, 2015. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. As for the self-efficacy of the dental hygiene students on Jeju Island according to their own demographic characteristics, there were statistically significant differences according to gender (t=2.672, p=.008), academic standing in high school(F=6.865, p=.000), monthly family income(F=3.098, p=.017) and part-time job experiences related to major (t=2.779, p-.006). 2. Regarding their self-efficacy according to the regional factors of the island, they mostly gave positive answers about regional economy (t=1.955, p=.052), local relative culture(t=-.574, p=.567), the bond of relatives(t=.527, p=.599), local educational conditions(t=.027, p=.979), hope for living on land(t=-.701, p=.484) and local culture(t=.364, p=.716). 3. Concerning satisfaction with major according to demographic characteristics, there were significant differences according to age (t=-4.395, p=.000), academic year(F=14.742, p=.000), academic standing in high school(F=3.129, p=.027), part-time job experiences related to major (t=2.503, p=.013) and motivation for choosing dental hygiene(F=4.144, p=.007). 4. As to satisfaction with major according to the regional characteristics of Jeju Island, there were statistically significant differences according to educational conditions when their answers about local economy(t=-.284, p=.777), local relative culture(t=-.234, p=.816), the bond of relatives(t=.265, p=.791), local educational conditions(t=3.616, p=.000), hope for living on land(t=-.561, p=.576) and local culture(t=.976, p=.331) were analyzed. In regard to the subfactors of major satisfaction according to educational conditions, statistically significant differences were found in satisfaction with subject-matter content(t=3.355, p=.001), general satisfaction(t=2.819, p=.005), satisfaction with classes(t=2.426, p=.016), relational satisfaction(t=2.518, p=.013) and satisfaction with awareness (t=4.00, p=.000).
