From February to June of 2013, 121 visitors to clinical dental hygiene care of C college of public health in a metropolitan city were surveyed and their halitosis was measured. oral malodor measurement was performed using BB measuring device to measure general gas in mouth. Data were analyzed using PSS/WIN 18.0 program. 1. Degree of concern in oral malodor was significantly related to age and oral health education experience (p=0.034, p=0.002). 2. Degree of want for oral malodor treatment was significantly related to occupation and oral health education experience (p=0.055, p=0.032). 3. Self-awareness of oral malodor was significantly related to tooth brushing(p=0.031). 4. Degree of oral malodor was significantly related to age, occupation, and scaling experience (p=0.043, p=0.004, p=0.081). 5. Occupation affected oral malodor the most (p=0.013). Considering the results above, oral health education and preventive scaling need to be strengthened to minimize oral malodor in adults of 20s.

As the study understood not only the subjective dental health condition that the seniors have been directly experiencing but also the dental health type of the seniors, the study has established it a goal to be used as a preliminary data both for developing educational programs for the seniors' health condition management and for resolving problems on the seniors dental health. Objects of the study were 260 seniors who were over 65 years old, participating in a senior festival and voluntary service program which were held by local senior communities in Chungju and Chungwon, Chungcheongbuk-do. For a final analysis, 241 copies of the survey in total were collected on two separate occasions, May 13 and October 14, 2011. The collected data were gone through the analysis by SPSS PASW 19.0 program. The dental health management type and the subjective dental health condition by sex were examined through Chi-square test. Also, an correlation analysis was performed in order to see a relation between the dental health management type and the subjective dental health condition. To study how the dental health management would have a causal relation to the subjective dental management, a gradual regression analysis method was conducted. 1. Regarding the dental health management type by sex, men appeared to brush their teeth less than once while the biggest number of women do the activity twice a day, which has proved a significant connection in a statistical manner (p=0.001). 2. When it comes to the subjective dental health condition by sex, the men answered 'so-so' about a question, 'I feel my ability to taste a flavor decreased', while the women answered 'very' (p=0.043). For a question, 'I am not satisfied with a meal', the men answered 'so-so' and the women answered 'very' (p=0.033). When the objects were asked by a question, 'My mouth often dries', the men answered 'seldom' while most of the women said 'so-so' (p=0.000). 3. For the correlation analysis on variables of the seniors' dental health management and subjective dental health condition, a statistically significant relation (p=.044) was found in the objects with the brushing-teeth training experience and a frequent dry mouth. There also discovered a significant relation in the objects who answered that I have my teeth scaled on a regular basis, I feel my ability to taste the flavor decreased (p=.002), I am not satisfied with a meal (p=.007) and I often feel my mouth dried (p=.038). 4. A gradual regression analysis was conducted to see how the dental health management type would have a causal relation to the dental health condition. According to results, the sex turned out to have a statistically significant influence, indicating that the more number of men compared to the women believed that their dental health condition is good. For a second research, by adding the sex, a regression analysis was performed as five questions on the dental health management type were considered as an independent variable. The results said that the two variables which were the sex and the regular dental scaling service appeared to have a statistically significant effect. Before trying to enjoy the happy senior life, it is important to keep the dental condition healthy. In order to realize the happiness in the senior life with a good dental health, an organized dental management program which would provide a customized dental management training and service in consideration of individual characteristics, residential area, economic level and life quality of the seniors should be established. The study has also determined that a political support of the government should be accompanied for the good dental health of the seniors.

As for the fluorine effects by the use of a school dental clinic, the group using a dental clinic (79.3%) was more knowledgeable about the fluorine effects than the group not using the clinic (71.7%) and 96.3% agreed to fluoride mouth rinse, showing significant differences. 2. The group using a dental clinic (93.6%) had more experience of receiving oral health education than the group not using the clinic (87.0%). 3. The group using a school dental clinic (93.5%) had more a dental hygienist in charge of oral health education, showing significant differences. As oral health behavior differed by the use of a school dental clinic, it is necessary to provide children with specialized oral health care by providing oral health education constantly, by running a school dental clinic efficiently, and by increasing employment of dental hygienists with the objective of helping children get a correct oral care habit and improve their consciousness.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the reality of dental hygienists' needle stick injury and to publicize the danger of needle stick injury and emphasize the importance of safe treatment environment. Questionnaire survey was conducted on 150 applicants among 406 dental hygienists registered in Jeju branch of Korea Dental Hygienists' Association from July 1, 2013 to July 31 same year and data from a total of 114 respondents were collected. Frequency analysis and crosstabs analysis were conducted on the collected data using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) WIN 18.0 and the results of the study are as follows. 1. 75 respondents (65.8%) replied that they have experienced needle stick injury in recent 1 year and 61 respondents (81.3%) were injured after the treatment. Most frequent specific circumstance of needle stick injury took place in 54 respondents (55.7%) when putting on the cap of anesthetic needle stick after use. 2. As for needle stick injury based on the characteristics of study subjects, 28 respondents injured (37.3%) were in the age group of 25~29, 66 respondents injured (88.0%) were those with associate degree, 63 respondents (84.0%) were injured in the treatment room, 30 respondents (40.0%) were working with 1~2 other dental hygienists and 50 respondents (66.7%) were working in a dental clinic with only one dentist. 3. Among those who had experience of needle stick injury, 61 respondents (81.3%) were without needle stick injury prevention education, 46 respondents (61.3%) had vaccination on hepatitis B and 37 respondents (49.3%) who always wear protective gear had injury even with precautionary measures. 4. Among those with one-time needle stick injury, 16 respondents (20.5%) discarded needle stick after putting the cap on and among those with two-time needle stick injury, 17 respondents (21.8%) discarded needle stick after putting the cap on, showing that needle stick injury takes place even when the needle sticks are discarded after putting the cap on. As needle stick injury takes place less when the needle is eliminated than when needle stick is discarded with or without cap on, elimination of needle is deemed to be one way to reduce needle stick injury. 5. When injured with needle stick, 46.1% of those injured wipe their injury with alcohol cotton as the first aid and 40.4% disinfected injury with Betadine. At the time of injury, 79 respondents (69.3%) checked medical history of the patients and 101 respondents (88.6%) were most worried about the risk of getting infectious disease, demonstrating that injured dental hygienists are seriously worried about infectious disease due to needle stick injury.
