The paper outlines the changes in the internal structure of Ulaanbaatar taken place since the fall of socialism in Mongolia. Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, encounters increasing urban development problems, similar to many cities in the developing countries. The problems have been accumulated during the socialist era, and accelerated by the reforms of entire political and economic systems, unregulated market development and the rapid population growth generated by in-migration. The internal structure and land use patterns of Ulaanbaatar, as a former socialist city, have been created and re-formed through four time revisions of the capital city's master plans. Since the transition to a market economy the city of Ulaanbaatar has experienced much more developments, which resulted in changes of the spatial and functional structure of the city. The most salient transformations among others are as follows: 1. the increase of commercial functions in the city centre and inner city area, 2. the expansion of the urbanized areas along with the growth of informal as well as formal ger-settlements, 3. the emergence of some satellite nodes with clusters of commercial functions, and 4. residential suburbanization in the outer city by single family houses

China is planning four big projects of grand development of west region. They are as follows: the big waterway project that connects water of Tibet and Chinghai Plateaus with the Yellow Sea, the railroad construction project that connects Chinghai, Tibet, and Wonnan, the natural gas pipe project that brings in the natural gas of Tarim Basin to eastern Shanghai, and the new silk road project that makes Shinjang a bridgehead to advance into central Asia, Middle East, and Europe(See Ficture-2). The kernel of these projects makes these areas multipetrochemistry industrial zones by extracting crude oil and natural gas of Ganssusung, Chinghai, and Shinjang, and goes forth into Central Asia and the West by dint of high technology given by this developing process. China declared to be second to the U.S. in terms of economy in fifty years. It has been developing western China from 2003 in order to end the modernization program, the last of three step strategies. Trade delegates of many countries including Korea have been to the Woorumuchi Trade Exhibition in the western China. China is planning a special treatment policy to foreign investment enterprises. The western area of China is scampering into development by making many highways, railroads, and navigation facilities. But communication facilities are not enough to cope with frequent international telecommunication needed because of increased foreign investment. The western zone of China is making a dash at the world with its future. We need the creation of considerate and fast advance strategy with the vison.
