Depending on a type of energy in personal characteristics, 9 Enneagram types are divided into three triads. 5, 6, 7 fall into Head Triad, 2, 3, 4 into Heart Triad, and 8, 9, 1 into Gut Triad. Every human being is born showing a close relation with one of these nine Enneatypes, and each type further expands into three subtypes. So-called 27 Subtypes, categorizes each Enneatype into three different subgroups based on basic human instinct he/she withholds. Subtypes embody the very nature of human instinct, as they coexist in all 9 Enneatypes. Instinct is a survival strategy at a subconscious level that helps a human being survive in this world as a social animal. Three “Subtype” instincts are represented in our daily lives in subconscious ways. Within each of the nine Ennea types, two of three subtypes are consistent with its passion characteristics, while another one is not. We call this against-the-passion subtype “countertype.” 27 Subtypes of Enneagram helps one deeply reflect on him/herself by throwing a question: “who is my true self?” Hence we are able to find our own obsessions through the scope of 27 Subtypes, find our cause, and overcome our obsessive compulsions. In process, one finds his or her gifted talent and learns how to cope with the environment as he or she builds a unique strategy based on these gifts. 27 Subtypes of Enneagram is a self-practice that enables one achieve whole life by offering journey to finding true self.

Heros of Three Kingdoms’ impact lingers through generations since it writes of genius military strategies. The plot in which three kingdoms: Wei, Wu, and Shu strive and compete against each other for the hegemony, is not only grandiose in scale but also interesting since it involves humans’ worldly wisdom. This historical novel does not involve only sagas but every aspect of human life: from high dimensional national strategies to individual conduct problems. People living through dark ages show competence spirits, desire for improvement, and struggle of survival. Every nation seems to have similar ups and downs: fresh and creative at first, but easy-going attitude bounded by corruption as the time passes. We can learn from the past by making examples from each nation. In this paper, nine different characters from Heros of Three Kingdoms: Xun Yu, Suan Quan, Cao Cao, Zhou Yu, Zhuge Liang, Guan Yu, Lu Bu, Zhang Fei, and Liu Fei are given as example models to represent each character type in Enneagram. 1) Xun Yu, Cao Cao’s tactician, is set as Type 1 – The Perfectionist. 2) Suan Quan, Suan Jian’s second son who became the Wu emperor, is set as Type 2 – The Helper. 3) Cao Cao, who contributed the most to putting down the Yellow Turban Rebellion, and domineered as Prime Minister of Han Dynasty, is set as Type 3 – The Achiever. 4) Zhou Yu, Suan Quan’s tactician who led the Battle of Red Cliffs into victory, is set as Type 4 – The Romantic. 5) Zhuge Liang, Liu Fei’s tactician who suggested Three-Quarters of the World in his early days, is set as Type 5 - The Investigator. 6) Guan Yu, who shows faith and loyalty to his brothers, is set as Type 6 - The Loyalist. 7) Lu Bu, the strongest martial artist in the Three Kingdoms era, is set as Type 7 - the Variety-Seeker. 8) Zhang Fei, Liu Fei’s brother with the raucous voice and magnanimous characteristic, is set as Type 8 – The Challenger. 9) Liu Fei, who founded Shu Kingdom through forming brotherhood with Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, is set as Type 9 – The Peacemaker. One of the causes that make human interactions difficult is unawareness of each other’s characteristic. Once a person studies Enneagram, he or she is able to to see other people with insight. The more he or she gets used to various character types, the more eager he or she is able to understand others. With Enneagram knowledge and skills, one is able to free himself from restrictions.
