Purpose: The grindability of binary Ti-X%Zr(X=10,20,40) alloys in order to develop a Ti alloy with better machinability than unalloyed titanium has been evaluated. Methods: Experimental Ti-Zr alloys were made in an argon-arc melting furnace. Slabs of experimental alloys were ground using a SiC abrasive wheel on an electric handpiece at circumferential speeds(12000,18000,25000 or 30000rpm) by applying a force(200gr). Grinding rate was evaluated by measuring the amount of metal volume removed after grinding for 1 minute and the volume ratio of metal removed compared to the wheel material lost, which was calculated from the diameter loss (grinding ratio). Experimental datas were compared to those for cp Ti(commercially pure titanium) and Ti-6%Al-4%V alloy were used controls. Results: It was observed that the grindability of Ti-Zr alloys increased with an increase in the Zr concentration. More, they are higher than cp Ti, particularly the Ti-20%Zr alloy exhibited the highest grindability at all circumferential speeds. There was significant difference in the grinding rate and grinding ratio between Ti-20%Zr alloy and cp Ti at any speed(p<0.05). Conclusion: By alloying with Zr, the Ti exhibited better grindability at all circumferential speeds. the Ti-20%Zr alloy has a great potential for use as a dental machining alloy.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the changes in hardness and microstructure of a dental multipurpose alloy after simulated complete firing with controlled cooling rate and holding time by characterizing the changes in hardness and microstructure after simulated firing with various cooling rates and holding times. Methods: Before hardness testing, the specimens were solution treated and then were rapidly quenched into ice brine. The specimens were completely fired in furnace. Hardness measurements were made using a Vickers microhardness tester. The specimens were examined at 15 kV using a field emission scanning electron microscope. Results: The maximum hardness value was obtained at stage 0 after simulated firing with various cooling rates (quick cooling, stage 0, stage 1, stage 2, stage 3). By the repetitive firing, the hardness of the tested alloy decreased gradually. By holding the specimen at 500 for 10-20min after simulated firing, the hardness increased apparently. However, to hold the alloy for long periods of time in the relatively high temperature after simulated firing resulted in the formation of thick oxidation layer. The oxide film formed on the surface of the alloy after simulated complete firing with controlled cooling rate, which was mainly composed of O and Zn. Conclusion: It is reasonable to hold the alloy at 500 for 10-20min after complete firing in other to improve the final hardness of the alloy

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to know the availability of three photosensitizers, CQ, PD, DA, as a photosensitizer of dental resin composite. We want to know abortion band around visible light region for the using potential possibility as a photosensitizer for visible light cured dental composite resin. And I studied to know the relative photodecomposition ratio of three photosensitizers with or without photoinitiator, DAEM. Methods: The photodecomposition of three photosensitizers were studied by UV absorption spectroscopy in ethanol and determined by same instrument with irradiation time for relative photodecomposition. In order to study the effect of amine on photodecomposition was added the DAEM in the photosensitizer solution and the relative rate was measured by the same procedure with aove mentioned. Results: The all of three photosensitizers are absorbed around visible light region. The relative rate of decrease in absorbance incereased in the order: CQ < BD < PD. The effect of DAEM on the photodecomposition of the photosensitizers was appeared different results without DAEM. The photodecomposition rate of PD and DA decreased somewhat with the addition of amine, while that of CQ increased. The rtealtive photodecomposition rate increased in the oprder: BD CQ < PD with the addition of amine, but the differnce was not significant. Conclusion: PD and DA like CQ gives to the possibility of use as a photosensitizer for visible light cured dental composite resin by absorption around visible light region and photodecomposition in the maximum absorption wavelength. And it is showed that PD and DA are not effective decomposed with amine initiator, DAEM but CQ decomposed with DAEM effectively. This result may be due to a different mechanism operating for the decomposition of photosensitizers in the presence of amine.

Purpose: This study conducted a survey on the elderly with physical debilities, who are in a medically vulnerable social class, to examine closely their demo-sociological characteristics, unmet needs, dental states, and living qualities and satisfaction levels relating to oral health and social supports to them, and also to prepare the basis for effective public medical policies and health improvement programs aimed at improving the quality of life for the elderly with physical debilities. Methods: Twenty-two elderly care facilities within Jeju Special Self-Government Province participated in the survey. Between 11 January and 5 March 2010, a total of 250 elderly persons(65 and over) with physical debilities were interviewed and their dental health was checked. Results: The results of the survey are as follows. The need for social support for dental care of the elderly with physical debilities was high in the medical institution-supported service (49.6%). The unmet needs for physical care were high in bathing (49.6%) and using public transportation (71.6%). More than half of these surveyed had ten or fewer teeth. The survey found that 31.6% of the participants experienced problems eating, due to poor dental health. Concerning quality of life, 30.5% of those surveyed experienced physical pain. Conclusion: In summary, the ages of the survey participants directly relates to the degree of behavioral debility experienced. The more debility a participant exhibits, the greater is the need for social support and dental care. The dental health of a participant directly relates to a higher quality of life. Good dental health of a participant translate to better quality of life. In light of the fact that the elderly with physical debilities suffer from a lack of accessibility to medical care and worse oral health than do other elderly persons, it is essential to increase accessibility to medical institutions that can provide such services as door to door dental care. Current insurance policies, funding for denture insurance, and free denture and denture-upgrade programs desperately need to be expanded. Therefore, to improve effectively the quality of life for the elderly with physical debilities civil dental medical resources should be encouraged to provide inclusive and prevention-focused medical care. In the public domain door to door dental care services and cooperation with civil dental care resources need to be improved to increase impartial accessibility to dental medical institutions
