Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide basic data to improve prehospital emergency care for patients with labor pain, vaginal bleeding and rape experience by analyzing the reports of 119 emergency medical technicians. Methods: Data were prehospital reports of 190 patients having chief complaints of labor pain, vaginal bleeding and rape in Chungcheongnam-do from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 descriptive statistics and x2-test. Results: From the 190 cases of labor pain, vaginal bleeding and rape, labor pain accounted for 57.9% including 75.5% of normal delivery; vaginal bleeding accounted for 35.8% including 26.5% of postpartum hemorrhage; and rape victims accounted for 6.3%. Cases with more than one vital sign accounted for 94.2%, but cases without primary assessment of the obstetrics and gynaecology accounted for 38.4% from gestation weeks, 78.0% from parity, and 87.4% from history taking relating to event. Patient care including emotional support was the first priority care accounted for 78.4% and 60% of care was keeping the patients warm. Conclusion : In order to handle various emergency situations properly, the records must be supplemented by obstetrical and gynaecological rape checklist and rape victims supporting system should be established.

Purpose : The aim of the study is to compare the effect of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with voice and CPR without voice by one rescuer. Methods : Subjects were 26 students in C University who had basic life support certificate for Healthcare Provider. They performed 30:2 CPR for 6 minutes by two groups of CPR with voice and CPR without voice by one rescuer from August 14 to 16, 2012. They performed CPR with Resusci Anne SkillReporter™ and Laerdal PC SkillReporting System Ver. 2.4.1(Laerdal Medical, Norway and recored voice using TES-1350A(TES Electrical Electronic Corp, Taiwan). Between each experiment, 1 day of rest was given, providing enough time to recover from the fatigue of CPR. Results : The depth, rate of chest compression, and ventilation volume were not affected by a voice (p>.05), and the ratio of chest compression to ventilation kept 30:2, when the subject made a sound (p<.05). Conclusion : Making voice during CPR was associated with an accurate ratio of 30:2 and the reduction in hands off time.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) education for school teachers by questionnaire survey including the knowledge, self-efficacy and skills of CPR and AED after basic life support (BLS) education. Methods : The subjects were school teachers who participated in BLS education from 24 Nov. to 1 Dec. 2012. They completed the self-reported questionnaire based on BLS skill checklist. Results : There was a statistically significant increase in the knowledge(p <.001), self-efficacy (p <.001)and skills(p <.001) of CPR and AED after BLS education. The correlation existed conspicuously between knowledge versus self-efficacy(r =.409, r =.387), knowledge versus skill(r =.442, r =.084), and self-efficacy versus skills (r =-.148, r =.047) of CPR and AED before and after BLS education. Conclusion : After BLS education, most of the participants found the program was easy and useful to perform. Participants had the willingness to do CPR and AED and wanted to teach BLS to others. It is necessary to provide BLS education for school teachers by systematic approach.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to provide an appropriated direction for cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) education by analyzing the attitude, knowledge and self efficacy of CPR for Chinese students in Korea. Methods : The questionaries were obtained from 179 Chinese students who studied in K university at G city from Sep 24, 2012 to Oct 4, 2012. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 19.0 program. Results : About 40% of the subjects had experienced CPR training. In cardiac arrest situation, 82.6% of the respondents were willing to CPR on family members and 58.1% of the respondents were willing to CPR on strangers. They had a very low CPR knowledge level (mean 34.4 out of 100) and self efficacy (4.6 out of 10). The self-efficacy was related to CPR willingness but not to CPR knowledge. Conclusion : It is important to enhance CPR performance for layperson education in Chinese students.

Purpose : The purpose of the study is to investigate the quality and relevance of back strength or chest compression which is applied by isotonic exercise of hip joint. Methods : Subjects were 37 students who participated in the BLS course and accepted the informed consent from December 7 to 8, 2012. During CPR performance, back strength was measured by the researcher. CPR was used the manikin for practical training with using PC, conducted by standard CPR for 2 minutes,Quality of chest compressions included average chest compression depth, rate, and recoil ratio. Results : Back strength (kg) is related to the chest compression depth (mm) (r =.746, p <.001). The high quality CPR is the most important factor so high quality is full chest recoil of chest compression and chest compression depth (mm) (β=.831, p <.001). In this study, chest compression rate and recoil ration were not influenced by back muscle strength. Conclusion : It is necessary to implement the CPR program to improve physical strength and effective performance of CPR.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to provide an appropriated direction for fire service organizational management by analyzing the violence experiences and turnover intention of female 119emergency medical technicians (119 EMT) in Korea. Methods : The questionaries were obtained from 415 female 119 EMT in Korea from April 27 to March 8in 2009. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 19.0 program. Results : Female 119 EMTs experienced 94.9%-verbal insults, 57.1%-violence aggression, 62.89%-potential violence, 32.5%-physical assault. About 76.4% of the subjects experienced to feel shame about the verbal insults. They had a stress level (mean 5.47 out of 10) and about 41.2% was more than seven points. About 39.3% of the subjects responded turnover intention. Conclusion : We proposed the preventive program against violence as well as critical incident stress debriefing. These results are expected to be useful in making human resource management plans to lower turnover intention.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to develop a scenario and to evaluate the students by simulation-based learning of acute abdominal pain case in an emergency unit. The expert group of simulation developed the scenario based on actual abdominal pain by medical treatment records. Methods : Scenario was developed to evaluate the simMan3G simulation-based learning. The scenario was used in 2013 with ten groups of fourth grade 50 nursing students who voluntarily participated in the simulation class. Results : The nursing students were able to express nursing knowledge, learning attitude and self-efficacy. The simulation-based scenario proved to be very effective to students' skill training. The performance of nursing practice through simulation class made the nursing students more confident with patient care. Conclusion : Simulation-based learning was found to be the most effective curriculum to the nursing students and made the students satisfied and confident. So the simulation-based learning would be helpful to other students including paramedic students and medical school students.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between stress and maxillofacial injuries in male students. Methods : The subjects were 386 male students who were 18 years or more. Mean age was 20.99±2.80years. Data were collected using a self-reported questionnaire from March 7 to March 28, 2013. We surveyed maxillofacial injuries, mouth guards use and stress in male students majoring physical education. The data were analyzed by Cochran’s Mantel-Haenszel, McNemar test and logistic multiple regression. Results : Those who had clenching habit and maxillofacial pain accounted for 48.7%. The pain was 3.23folds higher in clenching habit than those who had not (OR=3.23, p <.001). The more stress they had,the more clenching habit (OR=2.13) and pain(OR=1.68) did they have. Within 2 years, those having maxillofacial injury accounted for 53.2% and 78.6% of them put on maxillofacial protection guard. In rule for mouth guard use, 39.9% had no maxillofacial injury. Maxillofacial injury was 2.41 folds higher in those who had no mouth guard usee (OR=2.41). Conclusion : Maxillofacial injury had a close correlation with mouth guard use and stress. Therefore, it is very important to establish the rule for mouth guard use in sports activities.
