As the number of online privacy incidents are increasing, lawsuits related with personal information infringements have been also growing as well. However, there are large differences between a plaintiff and a defendant to determine the amount of payment for damages from the incident. After the verdict was made, a plaintiff is not satisfied with the amount of compensation, whereas a defendant usually tries to their best to reduce the payment amount. This is because the value for personal information are hardly assessed exactly. In addition, there is no criteria for calculating the price of the information itself. Since the development of information technology enables the firms could collect and use any piece of information to identify a particular individual, the range of personal information has been also broadening. Based on these phenomenon, this study tries to grouping the types of personal information and exploring the perceived value of types of information. Therefore, this study could provide a foundation for narrowing the gap of the value of personal information between the firm and the defendant. Through AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process), this study finds out that people usually value more on biometrics information, medical records, and criminal records whereas weigh less for email address and date of birth.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between knowledge sharing and academic performance in the context of quality-assurance related work. It furthermore aims to explore the role of information technology in mediating this relationship. Quantitative method was applied to collect data from the participants using an online-based questionnaire. Convenience sampling technique was used. The responses were collected from 140 participants in a university from Saudi Arabia. The study found a strong positive relationship between knowledge sharing and individual performance. It was also found out that information technology partially mediates the relationship between knowledge sharing and individual performance. The research unearths the significant contribution made by information technology in mediating the relationship between individual-level knowledge sharing and the individual performance. This helps to understand the positive impacts on individual work performance in institutions of higher education that would be derived if individuals use various forms of IT to share knowledge. The focus of the research is the individual performance as the pertinent contribution towards positive outcomes in institutional performance.

In the era of Web 2.0, social media advertising can simultaneously stimulate consumers’ brand purchase intention and brand information sharing intention. Product sales and brand information diffusion are equally important for a company that conducts advertising. This study investigates how features of brand content influence social media advertising effectiveness by integrating the stimulus-organism-response model and classic advertising effectiveness models. An analysis of 267 survey questionnaires shows that brand content-related cues, including perceived uniqueness, perceived vividness, and perceived interactivity have significant effects on consumers’ affective and cognitive involvement, which then affect their attitude toward brand content. As a result, the consumers’ attitude toward the brand and their brand purchase intention, as well as their brand content sharing intention, are positively affected by attitude toward brand content. This study contributes to a better understanding of how social advertising works, which suggests that managers should effectively use social media to conduct advertising.

This paper touches the limitations of existing theories related to technology acceptance, which mainly focus on users’ perceived ease of use and usefulness, and proposes the role for sensory capabilities and enjoyment in understanding smartphone use. Furthermore, we develop a model that explains smartphone usage and intention to use it for a task and analyzes 442 questionnaire survey responses of smartphone users. First, perceived usefulness, perceived sensory capability, and perceived enjoyment influenced smartphone usage. Second, we found that both perceived usefulness and smartphone use were significantly associated with users’ intention to utilize the smartphone for their job-related tasks. Finally, both perceived sensory capability and enjoyment were found to be more powerful factors than ease of use in explaining smartphone use. From the study findings, implications and future research directions are also discussed.

The purpose of the paper is empirically to explore ‘design manner’, focusing on the designer’s knowledge boundary on the designer-user interactions in the design process. This study conducts a field study and observed designer’s interactions with actual users in a leading user-centered design firm over three months. The observations revealed how designers bring ideas about users into design without physically interacting with users during the design process. Based on Bourdieu’s theory of practice and the concept of boundary objects, this study introduces the concept of ‘design manner’, by which designers incorporate user’s ideas into the design process without actual involvement of users in the process. This paper contributes to the body of knowledge by introducing the design manner in-between designer’s and user’s knowledge boundaries and argue bridge between theoretical and actual designer-user interactions in the IS design process.
