The Role of ICT in Smart-work Continuance

Despite the increasing interest in the positive effects of smart-work, the introduction rate of domestic firms in Korea is lower than that of other developed countries. A gap also exists between the introduction of smart-work program and the actual use by workers. Thus, even if the smart-work program was introduced to firms, the actual usage rate of the program would still be lower than the introduction rate. Moreover, even if the program was initially used, evidence suggests that the usage rate tends to decrease rather than being used continuously. In this study, we intend to find out the mechanism by which the continuance intention of smart-work is formed. To achieve this objective, we established a research model based on literature on Information System (IS) continuance model and Information & Communication Technology (ICT) support. We also hypothesize that concerns about career disadvantage in the mechanism plays a negative role in the satisfaction of smart-work. To analyze the hypothesis empirically, we surveyed domestic workers who used smart-work. Our data analysis was based on 333 responses. We found that all paths were statistically significant, except for the direct effect of ICT support on perceived usefulness and the direct effect of perceived usefulness on smart-work continuance intention. The results of this study extend existing IS continuance model and suggest implications for practical smart-work implementation and improvement.
Factors Affecting Individuals’ Intentions to Discontinue Social Network Services Use

This study uses the concepts of mental accounting and coupling in consumption to demonstrate a systematic relationship between behavioral costs, sunk costs, coupling, and user intention to discontinue social network services (SNS) use. An analysis of 213 SNS users found that coupling and sunk costs are two major factors that influence an individual’s intention to discontinue SNS use. An interesting finding of this study is that the perception of coupling is created by behavioral costs in the context of an SNS. This finding implies that the source of cost perception when perceiving coupling may differ depending on whether the product or service is traditional or web-based. These results contribute to an expansion of the theoretical discussion of individual-level discontinuance intention after adopting SNS by conceptualizing the perception of coupling.

As an increasing number of people gained access to social network services (SNS), organizations started to use SNS as a channel for marketing and promotional purposes. The online advertising market has significant growth potential. Brand engagement is a key motive for online advertising, but how SNS users engage with brands, particularly in terms of the promotion of organizations, is poorly understood. This study uses customer value theory to examine brand engagement of users in terms of promoting companies in the context of Korean SNS marketing. This study identifies the antecedents of brand engagement based on customer value theory. Our findings show the significance of three factors of SNS marketing, namely, price discount, relationship support, and convenience, on brand engagement. We further show the consequences of brand engagement, namely, purchase decisions and word-of-mouth activities. These findings help advance customer value theory and offer practical insights into the use of information systems and marketing in the context of SNS.
Exhibition Guide System Acceptance for Smart MICE

Meeting, Incentive travel, Convention, Exhibition (MICE) industries recently introduced new information systems, such as the exhibition guide system (EGS), to keep pace with Smart MICE and maximize the effect of exhibition performance. We investigate how persuasive EGS can affect the EGS acceptance of attendees via cognitive and affective response. We analyzed data from 442 EGS users at an exhibition. We found that information accuracy, information relevance, and source credibility were predictors of cognitive response. Source credibility had a significant effect on affective response. Furthermore, cognitive response was found to be a positive predictor of affective response and EGS acceptance. We also found affective response is a predictor of EGS acceptance. The theoretical and practical implications of the study were presented based on the results.
