The efficacy of sunscreens is influenced by the interactions between UV absorbers and emollients. In this study, the UV absorption spectrum behavior of UVB sunscreen filter, Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate (EHMC), were determined in 17 emollients of varying solubility parameter (SP). Emollients were classfied into 3 groups according to SP ranges. Changes in both the wavelength of the maximum absorbance (λmax) and molar absorptivity (ε) at 308 nm were observed for EHMC-emollients groups studied. Results of observed bathochromic shift in λmax for EHMC were related to SP of emollients. Emollient groups which were showed similar results of SP were also observed a similar shift pattern for λmax for EHMC. The wavelength shifts at λmax for EHMC were found a correlation between SP of EHMC and SP of emollient groups. These results of this study should give a help to the sunscreen chemist in selecting appropriate emollients for sunscreens through prediction of the derection of wavelength shifts in the UV absorption spectrum of sunscreen chemicals using SP.

This study was carried out to investigate the color preferences, images and beauty behaviors in a middle school students located in Chonnam. This survey was conducted from April to May, 2010. The completely answered 274 questionnaires were used for statistical analysis. The results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, in the results of color preference research there are overlapping patterns between preferable colors and dislike colors. This seemingly comes from the comparatively small tendencys to specific color and the socio-cultural characteristics of our comtemporaries. Second, in the findings of color image inquiry the span of association word is generally limited to express their concrete and abstract images. That is to say they have a distinct tendency to image the feeling very vaguely and to express frequently the image of the school life, school uniform and nature. I think this results are mainly caused by the limitation that this survey is definited to those surveyed who are studying in the country middle school. Third, this survey shows that there are so definite correlation between the color preference and hair dyeing color that exact understanding of color will help the enhancement of beauty behaviors. Conclusively, I expect the active exposure of colors and the color beauty education will help the young aged students to have the proper beauty behaviors.

To provide basic information on effective acne control and peeling programs, this study was conducted. To do this, the study surveyed status of the utilization satisfaction on medical peeling. For this purpose, survey forms were distributed to 309 adults acne patients using medical skin care in Busan city. It was found that 73.8% of medical skin care users were women, 88.1% were in between their 20s and 30s, 35.3% were in Grade II (comedo acne + papule acne), and 93.2% were stressed by their acne problems. As for the types and use of peeling for acne control, a majority of subjects preferred chemical peeling (79.6%) regardless of their sex, age, occupation, education, marital status, severity of acne, and stress. Many of them responded that they have had three to four peelings (37.9%) and experienced minor sensitivity (57.6%) during peeling and minor sting (67.9%) after peeling. In addition, many of them saw positive effects after two to three times (37.9%) and experienced no reverse effects (61.8%). They were mostly satisfied by the peeling treatment, except for its price. Satisfaction with peeling received an average of 3.87 out of 5 possible points for positive effects on acne control. Many subjects responded that they were satisfied by their skin after peeling (3.85), were satisfied by overall effect of peeling (3.76), were satisfied by their appearance after peeling (3.65), received additional peeling for treatment purposes (3.65), were recommended to peeling by acquaintances (3.65), enhanced confidence after peeling (3.58), were satisfied by the length of peeling treatment (3.40), and were satisfied by the price of peeling (3.12). As for the skin care after peeling for acne control, a majority of responders said that they use sun block cream before going out (4.20), use moisturizing cream (3.95), receive reproduction control (3.92), purchase home skin care system (3.76), and gently remove cuticles (3.67). Other responses included: avoid hot massages and sauna (3.29) and avoid hot and spicy food (3.06). To maximize the effect of peeling for acne control and avoid any further problems, however, it is necessary to study reproduction control and other post-rejuvination care programs that may follow peeling treatment.

Obesity is an important factor of metabolic syndrome and it is known as an independent risk factor of cardiovascular disease. Hyperhomocysteinemia has been shown to be associated with increased risks for cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Through the previous studies have shown that incidence of cardiovascular diseases correlates with the serum homocysteine levels, folate and other nutrients. Therefore the aim of this study was performed to investigate the effect of serum homocysteine level, folate, vitamin B6 in obese women. The subjects of study were whose BMI is greater than 25kg/m2, 36 participants were randomly divided into 2 groups. One group was assigned Nutritional education and exercise program (NE group) and the other group was assigned the exercise program (E group) that was conducted for 3 months. We measured the dietary behaviors, homocysteine level, lipid profile of serum, body weight, body fat mass, folate, Vitamin B6 and physical activity strength etc. The result obtained were as follows: Serum homocysteine level of NE group is decreased than E group. The intake of dietary folate, and vitamin C were significantly increased NE group than E group. These results show that continuous Nutritional Education and Exercise Obesity Management Program will improve of Hyperhomocysteinemia of obese women than the only Exercise Obesity Management Program.

The components of the 5th instar 3rd day silkworms (male) and the 14th day silkworm pupa (male/female) were extracted with ethanol, ethyl acetate, and chloroform as the solvents. The extractions were proceeded with 2 steps ; the 1st extraction with ethanol and ethyl acetate respectively, the 2nd extraction with chloroform followed by the 1st extraction. The components of the extracts were analyzed with GC/MS. In the 1st extraction the yields and components of the extracts with ethanol were higher than that with ethyl acetate, and the 2nd extraction gave more the yields and components of extracts than that of the 1st extraction. In all the experimental procedures palmitic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, and stearic acid were detected, and the content of the fatty acids increased in sequence of stearic acid, linoleic acid, oleic acid, and palmitic acid. The contents of the fatty acids of the male pupa at the age of 14 days gave about two times more than that of the female pupa with 14 days.
