The purpose of this research is to analyze the utilization effect of the rainwater detention system based on the planning simulation in factory areas. The contents of this research consists of two main parts. The first part is to calculate the supply water quantity of the rainwater detention system and the demand water quantity of the H-factory. The second part is to analyze the difference between demand and supply of water quantity, based on the planning simulation, in the rainwater detention system. This research will contribute to the establishment of the environment-friendly site planning methods in factory areas.

The case of single family homes within general residential site neighboring with Gyohyeon-dong, ChungJu which is composited as the part of housing land development business before and after 1988 indicates that the single family homes are newly constructed in only conformity with the basic construction law due to the lack of housing. This problem results in aggravation of housing environment of single family homes within general residential site. The pleasant housing environment of the single family homes within general residential site has been natured by restricting the part of indirect residual open space through its assurance, presenting effective composition way of residual open space with harmony between unit houses, and by promoting the territorial characteristics that become the basis on common life of inhabitants.

A Yosa, temple dormitory, isn't hold worship in front of Buddha, offer a Buddhist monk a food, clothing and shelter. It's complex function, and a space peculiar to Plan have been repaired and metamorphosed. The internal variation is period, local and functional demand. This is the study focused on the change of the Okchon Buddhist temple's plan organization, establish the identity of the early stage and transform. The front side was 3 Kan in the first stage. Second stage, front side was 5Kan and side was 3Kan. After second stage, the front side was 7Kan and side was 3Kan. In the sequel, Iksa was at both side, and complete the tetragon Plan.

The purpose of this study is to survey and examine closely the modern buildings and structures listed in the current registered cultural properties with focusing on their active applications to conserve the modern architecture, to analyze the factors of their nonuse, and ultimately to make plans to improve them on the basis of the existing modern buildings or structures listed in the registered cultural properties. As a result of surveying and examining the 360 modern buildings and structures registered currently in the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea, it was found that 268 properties had been used whereas 92 properties had been deteriorated and damaged without any use or function. The primary factors of nonuse included the loss of application (purpose of use), neglect, structural problems, deteriorated materials and damage. The present author suggests that it is keenly required to give top priority to how to conserve our cultural heritage, rather than designating or registering modern buildings and structures as national cultural properties.

This study research on W. Kandinsky's artistic attempts to express a human's internal inevitability by forms and colors into Abstract Art. It is well known that his ideas on ‘Abstract’ was formed by the Influences of mystic music such as Scriabin and Theosophy. Furthermore, his belief on the Abstract in Modern arts had constantly been showed in his works and theories through his books. Particularly, his ‘Abstract Art’ activities in Bauhaus had influenced greatly in the realm of education, which finally made Modern Design as ‘Pure Form’ spread all over the world. Notably, it is fact that his artistic ideas and theories were made by Oriental thoughts such as Theosophy which was composed by and with Oriental thoughts and religions. Therefore, The influence of positive Orientalism was a significant source from which he brought out Essence of Abstract.

Facade of business building is composed of surrounding environment and buildings. Facade is also composed of patterns that can be classified and identified visually, such as the number of floors, usage, entrance type, closing, color, and sign. But the Facade is being independent and no being relative with the surrounding environment and the buildings, so it is damaging the fineness of the city. As a result, I selected the business area that is representing Busan and analyzed the business building, facade, and investigated the business buildings that are composing it in this study. The research aims at suggesting an integrated image to realize an urban image in establishing a landscape plan. The research grasps the production process of an image, sets the unity of visual factors, which make a landscape image, and the application space of an integrated image by explaining the definition and necessity of the integrated image, and investigates a method to establish the integrated image of a landscape plan by suggesting a creation method of the integrated image through visualizing images. As an integrated image is an image in the process of a landscape plan, it embodies a method of realizing an urban image. An integrated image contains factors that can visualize a conceptual urban image and is applied to representative places or landscapes, about which people first notice when they access the places and landscapes from the inside and outside of a city. In addition, in order to make the guideline of a space to which an integrated image is applied, an image should be visualized.

This study deals with the movement pattern of viewers of two different art museums in Daejeon, Korea. Two museums differ in sizes and contents. Investigation was made on viewers' common tendencies of pattern and time for viewing. Conclusions includes 1) Wall display is one of the most dominant types. 2) In one room, the concentration time of viewing is greater in the beginning that at the end toward exit. 3) The difference in size of the display rooms is irrelevant in viewing pattern. This study will continue to more museums in Korea in various types of contents to give guidelines of various types of displays of not only inside but also outdoors.

Kim Jung-Up has been one of the most famous architects in Korea. He has had architectural practice at Le Corbusier's office at Paris in 1950s, and returned to Korea, he has made many remarkable architectural works including French Embassy building in Korea. It is considered that his thought about Korean tradition was influenced by his mother at the early age. The characteristics of Korean traditional expression are appeared in his many works. Analyzing his architectural works, we can get some Korean traditional characteristics as follows-the Korean curves, the Kongpo(oriental capital structural system) and its details, the facade composition method, the empty spaces(interal and external) of Korean Architecture, the traditional site planning. As a result, he expressed Korean tradition in his own method on his architectural works and the more studies are needed to review his architecture.

The memorial service house of Soo Woon Gyo in Dae-jeon, a national religion, is an important modern building at which major ceremonies take place. Established in 1936, this building is a distinctive combination of the truss roof structure in western style, the traditional Korean-style structure, and a Japanese floor mat. This study by recording a memorial house of Soo Woon Gyo examines the architectural features closely and compares a memorial service house with the main structure and style of a modern building founded from 1920`s to 1930`s. The memorial service house ceremony externally shows the style of building like a lecture space of Seowon. However, inside the house, there are inner parts as the interior space of a main Buddhist temple ; three Buddhist image, a picture of Buddha to hang on the wall, a soul platform, and so on. Considering the peculiarities of that times, it looks like one of compromises in a transitional form of Korean modern architecture.

Arata Isozaki departed on a road to be a world architect from the outset by having whole world of culture as base. Isozaki has constantly asserted that architecture can be a philosophy in itself and an ideology with its own cultural legacy. In his national context, Isozaki's works can be seen as attempts to develop and indicate an appropriate direction for the rapidly changing Japanese architecture. Arata Isozaki has developed his architecture by six architectural concepts which contain Writing architecture, Process planning, Virtuality, City, Technique, Capital since 1960s. But his architectural concepts are difficult to understand easily because its interrelation and opaque entity. Therefore his architectural concepts need to arrange for apparent comprehension. Its appropriate solution is formal approach in researcher's opinion. Comparatively speaking, Arata Isozaki's works can be understood apparently by the formal characteristics. The kinds of forms is Hexahedron, Vault, Square cone, Cylinder, Ellipse, Indefinite form. The hexahedron is the first(35.2%) form and the vault is the second(27.8%) form which have applied to Arata Isozaki's architectural works.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the architectural characteristics of Woljeongsa Geungnakbojeon which is situated in Anakgun, Hwanghaenamdo, north Korea. Geungnakbojeon, the main hall of Woljeonsa temple is 3kan×2kan(kan means bay) and the Da-po brackets system seems to be very unique. Unfortunately when this building was erected is not certain. But this building has some characteristics in between late Goryeo and early Choseon period. Especially the brackets system is unique. Through being compared with the buidings which have the characteristics between late Goryeo and early Choseon period it can be assumed that when Woljeongsa Geungnakbojeon was built.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the Wae-castle for construction method of fortification the Im-jin Period War With Japan. Wae-castle has importance in preserving the original form of the contemporary castle of the period. Wae-Castle has the designative elements which show the authority of the political power. Differential shortening effects in tall concrete buildings causing cracks of partitions, curtain walls and pipe lines are a significant serviceability component. The paper describes a method for the structural reliability assessment on serviceability limit state of the time-dependent column shortening. The method is based on the probability analysis using monte carlo simulation. Based on the reliability index and probability of failure, the column shortening of 41-story tall concrete building is evaluated quantitatively and the compensation values are proposed considering target reliability index on the serviceability limit state.

On this study, we chose test studies about shear capacity valuation of un-reinforced masonry wall as analyze object. And in existing test model, we verified the feasibility through comparing and analyzing the load-displacement relationship test data with analyzed data using ANSYS, general purpose finite element analysis program. Also, we will present the basic data about shear behavior of un-reinforced Masonry wall through evaluating main factors that affect to shear behavior of un-reinforced masonry wall and shear strength, comparing and analyzing with aspect ratio, vertical axial stress and actual size of un-reinforced masonry wall by main factors.

This study developed an analytical model for predicting nonlinear behavior of flat plate structures. The developed model can predict the failure sequence until punching failure occurs. For verifying the analytical model, the test results of flat plate slab column connections were compared with the results of the analysis.

A meshless method based on the radial point interpolation method(RPIM) is used to analyze cantilever beam. Meshless methods have been considered is a very attractive as new computational method since it does not need mesh generation in analysis procedure. Especially, RPIM, using radial basis function(RBF), has an advantage that do not consider the essential boundary condition. In order to demonstrate the accuracy of the adopted meshless method, numerical examples are tackled with multiple elastic moduli and the different number of background cell. Numerical results are compared with the reference solution produced by finite element analysis program FEAP.

This paper deals with a generation of design spectrum compatible artificial earthquake wave. In seismic response analysis of building structures, the input ground accelerations have considerable effect on dynamic characteristics of structures. The artificial earthquake wave are generated according to previously recorded earthquake waves in past earthquake events. It is appointed that the artificial wave have identical phase angles to the recorded earthquake wave, and their overall response spectra are compatible with seismic design spectrum with 5% of critical viscous damping. It is concluded that the artificial earthquake waves simulated in this paper are applicable as input ground motions for a seismic response analysis of building structures.

This research is to develop more effective seismic isolation system and to standardize a design processor for a seismic isolation structure system based on energy method by applying a isolation damper using HTS(High Toughness Steel which has been being studied) to the seismic isolation system. This research is conducted in four different stages. First, design two types of specimen for a shaking table test. One is not applied a seismic isolation system, the other is applied a seismic isolation system. Second, expect the dynamic characteristics of each specimen through analytical study using computer program Midas Gen ver.741. Third, compare analytical result with experimental result which will be obtained from a shaking table test next time. Lastly, suggest a design processor for a seismic isolation structure system based on energy method. In this study, our efforts especially focused on the first and second stage.

In the context of earthquake engineering, nonlinear response history analysis is an important tool to predict with reasonable accuracy the building response for varying levels of ground motion intensity. Ideally, the nonlinear response history analysis should faithfully simulate all significant modes of deformation and deterioration in the structure from the onset of damage up to collapse. However, given present analysis technologies and the practical constraints of design, it is usually not feasible and perhaps not warranted to directly simulate all significant nonlinear effects in analysis. Acceptance criteria for both individual components and the overall system must be tailored to the specific analysis capabilities for simulating nonlinear response. In this study, nonlinear response characteristics of the simple structure are examined with respect to three-nonlinear component models. The objective of this paper is to propose most appropriate nonlinear component models through a comparative analysis of top floor displacement and element force on the actual structure subjected to Elcentro earthquake.

The control performance in active control system can be drastically deteriorated when the modeling errors and the uncertainties existing in the seismic disturbances are disregarded in the designing stage. It can even throw the system into unstable phase, resulting in out of control against the excitations. The purpose of the study is to investigate the control effectiveness of a non-linear control system called sliding mode controller in cooperation with a base-isolated system subjected to the three seismic excitations selected from the FFT analysis. In results, the relative displacements in the isolated floor and story drift were reduced more than 90%. The absolute acceleration of the top floor was controlled in 54% or more, showing excellent controlling behaviors in all three different excitations.

Many different supplemental energy dissipating devices have been proposed to assist for reducing harmful effects of earthquakes on structures. This paper presents an experimental study of seismic behaviors of steel frame with added fluid viscous damper. Then, Shaking-table tests were conducted on a third scale model structure one story steel frame with added fluid viscous damper. Experimental results show fluid viscous damper is effective on reducing the seismic response.

Seismic performance evaluation of structure requires an estimation of the structural performance in terms of displacement demand imposed by earthquakes on the structure. Most structures are expected to deform beyond the limit of linearly elastic behavior when subjected to strong ground motion. In the context of earthquake engineering, nonlinear response history analysis is an important tool to predict with reasonable accuracy the building response for varying levels of ground motion intensity. We can obtain nonlinear response though three hysteretic parameters such as strength degradation, stiffness degradation and pinching behavior respectively. In this study, it is to compare behaviors of hysteretic models through three hysteretic characteristics such as strength degradation, stiffness degradation, pinching behavior and to suggest more reliable hysteretic model for nonlinear analysis of structure.

A methodology of seismic performance evaluation techniques have been developed, which is based on probability and reliability. The methodology was developed by the SAC Joint Venture in support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. FEMA-355F describes the state-of-the-art methodology for the performance prediction of steel moment-frame buildings excited by earthquake ground motions. That report also presents various performance issues and the basis used for performance evaluation. In this paper, the basis of the methodology, which is probability and reliability framework, and its procedure are introduced. The methodology provides engineers and researchers with a quantitative value for seismic performance predication or evaluation that is represented by confidence.
