Calvin developed his view of the church through the reformation in Geneva and Strasbourg, and Geneva. At the same time he formed the concept of order in order to realize his view of the church. He saw the essence of church as the chosen God's people from the start of reformation. The invisible church is judged by the church sign whether it is the true church or not. A man who is a true christian is judged by the marks of the believers such as the confession of faith , the participation of sacrament, and the model of life. He understood the true functions of church as worship, prayer, praise, and relief. He explained the two orders of pastor and deacon in the first edition of Institutes. But he founded the fourfold orders after the return in Geneva through the meeting with Martin Bucer, the various readings of many reformers' books, and his exegeses of the Scriptures. John Calvin accomplished the marks of a true church such as the proclamation of the word and the administration of the sacrament, the foundation of the consistory as the pastoral institution for the practice of the piety of life, the essential functions of the church through the fourfold orders He understood the right foundation of the fourfold orders through the exegesis of the Scriptures. In the middle age the hierachy of the clergy is the essence of the church. But Calvin developed the church order from the essence of the church, his orders realized the essence of the church.
