This paper discusses the basic valence (or valency) orientation issue in Korean, based on crosslinguistic data proposed by Nichols et al. (2004). The study of Nichols et al. (2004) presents the basic valence of the basic verbs (animate and inanimate verbs) of the sample languages and classifies them into transitivizing, neutral, detransitivizing, indeterminate languages. This present study investigates the types of Korean basic valence and compares them with the Japanese result shown in the study of Nichols et al. (2004) while discussing issues in the Indo-European languages. According to the criteria proposed by Nichols et al. (2004), Korean basic valence orientation is transitivizing and detransitivizing for the animate and inanimate verbs, respectively, which is different from those of Japanese (transitivizing and none). This study argues that although Korean and Japanese are often classified into the same genetic affiliation and taken either one for language sample, at a closer look at the data, the two languages should be investigated respectively, especially in the study field with the language-specific concept.

This paper is to carry out a contrastive analysis of the characteristics that appear when a variety of vocabulary is combined with the progressive aspect in Korean and Spanish according to the Korean lexical aspect. -Ko iss- shows different aspectual characteristics depending on the lexical aspect. In addition, -ko iss- has not only a progressive phase, but also other characteristics such as a resultative, a quasi-resultative, and iterative. Estar + gerundio also has not only the meaning of a progressive but also the meaning of the repetition, the continuation, and the future depending on the lexical aspect. For example, the verb ‘conocer’ has an inceptive property when combined with estar + gerundio(Villorio, 1989). In this paper, after comparing and analyzing the Korean -ko iss- and the Spanish estar + gerundio, parallel texts of the Spanish drama scripts and the Korean drama scripts were cross-analyzed to see how they are truthfully used and what the differences and the similarities are.

Until now, a contrast analysis has been conducted on the expression of Korean and Chinese, but few studies have analyzed the response relationship through actual language use patterns. According to this research trend, this study constructed parallel corpus data of Korean and Chinese from novels, extracted a total of 133 sentences consisting of parallel corpus of novels, analyzed the response patterns of Korean and Chinese sinus expressions, and described the correspondence relationship. This study is an empirical study using corpus extracted from actual data in contrast analysis research, and attempted to analyze the response patterns to how Korean sinus expression is expressed in Chinese. The significance of this study is that it revealed the verbs frequently used in parallel corpus, and the overall discussion of the causative contrast was conducted by organizing the corresponding Chinese expressions using Korean morphological causative expressions, syntactic causative expressions, and markers.
