The purpose of this study was to study the effect of external loads on the thickness change of the transverse abdominis, intra oblique muscle, and extra oblique muscle when prone hip extension with knee flexion. This study was conducted on 25 healthy adults, and prone hip extension with knee flexion was performed with 0kg, 1kg, and 2kg of sandbags worn on the ankles in a prone position. The change in muscle thickness was measured using ultrasound equipment. The thickness of the transverse abdominis and internal oblique muscles increased significantly when prone hip extension was performed with an external load applied rather than prone hip extension without an external load. There was no significant change in muscle thickness of external oblique muscle. We propose that providing an external load when performing prone hip extension is more effective for activation of deep abdominal muscles.

This study aimed to examine the effects of performance-based treadmill walking training with visual deprivation on balance and walking functions in patients with chronic stroke. We performed this study with a single-subject experimental research design (A-B-C). One patient with chronic stroke participated in this study. Experimental sessions consisted of three phases (a total of 20 sessions): (1) baseline phase, (2) 1st intervention phase, and (3) 2nd intervention phase. During the two intervention phases, performance-based treadmill walking training was performed, and visual deprivation was added in the 2nd intervention phase only. Intervention was performed for an average of 60 min, twice per day for two weeks. Outcome measures included Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Timed Up-and-Go test (TUGT), 10-meter walk test (10MWT), and Dynamic Gait Index (DGI). The BBS and DGI scores improved by 11 and 6 points, respectively. Furthermore, TUGT (36.91 sec) and 10MWT (18.74 sec) improved in the 1st intervention phase, and more improvement (TUGT: 56.45 sec, and 10MWT: 45.18 sec) was observed during the 2nd intervention phase. These results indicates that the performance-based treadmill walking training might improve balance and walking functions, with more favorable outcomes when visual deprivation was added. Further studies are required to support these results.

This study aimed to investigate the most effective exercise in relation to the effect on the cross-sectional area (CSA) and muscle tone of the abductor hallucis in patients with hallux valgus. Thirty-six patients (18 men, 18 women )with a mean age of 22.14 years (standard deviation of 2.47 years) participated voluntarily in this study. Hallux valgus was defined as an angle >15° of the 1st metatarsophalangeal joint(MPJ). A goniometer was used to determine the angle of the 1st MPJ. In addition, an ultrasound system and Myotone Pro were used to collect the CSA and muscle tone of the abductor hallucis of the dominant foot. CSA and muscle tone of the abductor hallucis were measured in four positions: resting position, during short foot (SF) exercise, during toe-spread-out (TSO) exercise, and during towel-curl(TC) exercise. For all data, one-way repeated analysis of variance test was used to compare the dependent variables according to the three exercise methods, and a post-hoc test was performed using the Bonferroni modification method. The significance level was set to p < .05. The CSA and muscle tone of the abductor hallucis were significantly increased in the TSO and SF exercises. In addition, a more significant increase was found in the TSO than in the SF exercise. However, no significant difference was found in TC. In conclusion, the TSO exercise is the most effective for selectively contracting the abductor hallucis than other exercises.

This study was to identify the awareness and preference of rehabilitation Pilates of university students majoring in physical therapy. from August 25 to September 7, subjects completed a survey which conducted on 204 students from the Department of Physical Therapy at six universities nationwide. The questionnaire consisted of questions about the recognition level and preference of rehabilitation Pilates. The results of this study showed that the higher the level of conceptual awareness of rehabilitation pilates, the higher the level of desire to participate in lectures (p<.05). In conclusion, these findings suggest that if the university's physical therapy department can provide students with accurate information about rehabilitation pilates, it can induce a lot of participation, which will help more active physical therapy professionals enter the rehabilitation pilates field. This study might be useful for further studies that university education institutions consider reflecting rehabilitation pilates in their subjects.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Neuro Development Treatment (NDT) treatment using dynamic taping of static and dynamic balance and gait function in stroke patients with foot drop. In this study, a total of 21 stroke patients with foot drop were randomly assigned to NDT treatment with dynamic taping training group and NDT treatment with sham taping training control group. Limit of Stability (LoS) and Berg Balance Test (BBS) were used to evaluate static and dynamic balance and gait function. To evaluate walking ability, 10Meter-Walking Test (10MWT) and Time Up and Go Test (TUG) tests were conducted. The intervention was performed five times a week for four weeks. Each session lasted 60 minutes twice a day. The experimental group received NDT treatment after attaching dynamic tape to tibialis anterior and peroneus longus, and the control group was provided with NDT treatment after attaching the sham tape. The results of this study confirmed that NDT treatment with dynamic taping was effective in improving static and dynamic balance and gait in stroke patients with foot drop and can be used as an effective interventional method in physical therapy to improve balance and gait in such patients.

This study was to investigate the effectiveness of the Inter-Professional Education (IPE) Program for the Public Healthcare College students who have studied 5 majors (Physical therapy, Clinical pathology, Radiology, Paramedic, Medical engineering). From March 8th to June 14th 2022, subjects completed a survey which is the modified version of Inter-Professional Attitudes Scale-Korea (IPAS-K) asking the level of 3 items (Patient-centeredness, Diversity and ethics, Teamwork roles and responsibilities). This study used one-group pretest-posttest design and the IPE program was implemented for 51 students of 5 majors. The results of this study showed statistically significant differences in all the three items between before and after implementing a IPE program (p<.05). Patient-centeredness and Teamwork roles and responsibilities, Patient-centeredness and Diversity and ethics which are sub-factors of IPAS-K showed significant correlation in post IPE. While the correlation between Diversity and ethics and Teamwork roles and responsibilities showed low correlation coefficient. This study might be useful for further studies that proves the necessity and importance of the IPE program since college courses for Public healthcare students.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of quadruped exercise according to the change of the support surface on the muscle thickness and muscle tone of the multifidus and erector spinae muscles. Thity healthy adults (16 males and 14 females) voluntarily participated in the experiment. The Q (Quadruped) and Q-L (Quadruped-Lifting right leg) exercises were performed on a stable support surface; whereas the Q-LT (Quadruped-Lifting right leg using TOGU dynamic airchusion) and Q-LS (Quadruped-Lifting right leg using Sling) exercises were performed on an unstable support surface. Outcome measurement included muscle thickness and muscle tone measurement using ultrasound equipment and Myoton, respectively. Repeated measures ANOVA was used for data analysis. The result of the study showed that in Q-L, Q-LT, and Q-LS, the muscle thickness of the multifidus and erector spinae was significantly increased compared to Q (p<.05). The muslce tone of the multifidus in Q-LT and Q-LS, increased compared to Q (p<.05). The muscle tone of the erector spinae muscle was significantly increased in Q-L, Q-LT and Q-LS compared to Q (p<.05). The muscle thickness was significantly increased in the unstable support surfaces in Q-LT and Q-LS compared to the stable support surfaces of Q and Q-L (p<.05). However, a significant difference between Q-LT and Q-LS was absent, which were the unstable support surfaces. Therefore, the results of this study showed that the quadruped exercise was more effective on an unstable support surface. This result can be used as useful data for the prescription and application of various exercises in clinical practice.

The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of kinesio taping on vital capacity of subjects with rounded shoulder syndrome. 26 of 20s men and women in their with round shoulder syndrome were randomly assigned to an experimental and a control group. All subjects measured their vital capacity before starting the experiment, and rested for an hour. The experimental group applied kinesio taping while resting, and the control group did not take any intervention. After an hour, subjects were measured vital capacity again to compare the amount of change. The experimental group showed significant changes in FVC, FEV1, and PEF after an hour. In the control group, there were no significant changes in vital capacity. In comparison between groups, the experimental group showed significant differences in FVC, FEV1, and PEF compared to the control group. Kinesio taping is effective in improving vital capacity for subjects who have rounded shoulder syndrome.

This study was an experimental study that evaluate the effectiveness of manual lymphatic drainage(MLD) on lower extremities function, lymphedema and pain in gynecologic cancer patients after surgery with pelvic lymph node dissection. The experiment was conducted on 20 gynecologic cancer patients with a numeral rating scale(NRS) pain score of >3 treated 2 times a week for 4 weeks. This study used one-group pretest-posttest design and the leg function(LEFS), leg volume, pain(NRS) was implemented for 20 patients. Patients was perfoshowed statistically significant differences in all the three items after implementing a LEFS score, leg volume, NRS score between the pre-post scores(p<.05). The study found that the leg function, leg volume, pain were significantly improved in gynecologic cancer patients after surgery with lymph node dissection after the 4-week intervention(p<0.05). This study might be useful for further studies that proves the necessity and importance of the manual lymphatic drainage(MLD) treatment in gynecologic cancer after surgery with lymph node dissection
