Modeling of a Functional Surface using a Modified B-spline

This research presents modeling of a functional surface that is constructed with a free-formed surface. The modeling of functional surfaces, being introduced in this paper, adopts a modified B-spline that utilizes an approximating technique. The modified B-Spline is constructed with altered control vertices. It is applied to measure the surface of an impeller blade. This research builds an algorithm accepting inputs of measured points. Generating the cutter-paths for NC machining employs the model of the constructed surfaces. The machined surfaces that are generated in several cases are compared with each other in the aspect of machining accuracy.

In reverse engineering area, it is rapidly developing reconstruction of surfaces from scanning or digitizing data, but geometric models of existing objects unavailable many industries. This paper describes new methodology of reverse engineering area, good strategies and important algorithms in reverse engineering area. Furthermore, proposing reconstruction of surface technique is presented. A method find base geometry and blending surface between them. Each based geometry is divided by triangular patch which are compared their normal vector for face grouping. Each group is categorized analytical surface such as a part of the cylinder, the sphere, the cone, and the plane that mean each based geometry surface. And then, each based geometry surface is implemented infinitive surface. Infinitive average surface's intersections are trimmed boundary representation model reconstruction. This method has several benefits such as the time efficiency and automatic functional modeling system in reverse engineering. Especially, it can be applied 3D scanner and 3D copier.

This study presented a surface water quality modeling framework considering the spatial resolution of pollutant load estimation to better represent stream water quality characteristics in the Saemangeum watershed which has been focused on keeping its water resources sustainable after the Saemangeum embankment construction. The watershed delineated into 804 sub-watersheds in total based on the administrative districts, which were units for pollutant load estimation and counted as 739 in the watershed, Digital Elevation Model (DEM), and agricultural structures such as drainage canal. The established model consists of 7 Mangyung (MG) sub-models, 7 Dongjin (DJ) sub-models, and 3 Reclaimed sub-models, and the sub-models were simulated in a sequence of upstream to downstream based on its connectivity. The hydrologic calibration and validation of the model were conducted from 14 flow stations for the period of 2009 and 2013 using an automatic calibration scheme. The model performance to the hydrologic stations for calibration and validation showed that the Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient (NSE) ranged from 0.66 to 0.97, PBIAS were -31.0~16.5 %, and $R^2$ were from 0.75 to 0.98, respectively in a monthly time step and therefore, the model showed its hydrological applicability to the watershed. The water quality calibration and validation were conducted based on the 29 stations with the water quality constituents of DO, BOD, TN, and TP during the same period with the flow. The water quality model were manually calibrated, and generally showed an applicability by resulting reasonable variability and seasonality, although some exceptional simulation results were identified in some upstream stations under low-flow conditions. The spatial subdivision in the model framework were compared with previous studies to assess the consideration of administrative boundaries for watershed delineation, and this study outperformed in flow, but showed a similar level of model performance in water quality. The framework presented here can be applicable in a regional scale watershed as well as in a need of fine-resolution simulation.

This paper simulated surface grinding process with statistically simulated grinding wheel topography, considering ridge formation phenomenon when grain scratch workpiece. Wheel grain is modeled as hybrid sphere and cone. Grinding wheel characteristic was evaluated with stylus by expanding the scanning region of the profilometer from a straight line to a plane. Each grain's diameter and semi-angle are assumed as normal distribution, each grain's protrusion height from wheel plane is assumed gamma distribution. So grinding wheel is simulated with grain's position randomly distributed without overlapping. Ground surface is 3-dimensionally simulated considering ridge formation of workpiece by each grain's cutting, and then surface profile and surface roughness parameters are compared with real ground workpiece.

An optical measurement method of three dimensional surface profiles which is named the slit beam projection is suggested and practically implemented. This method is intended especially for noncontact and fast digitization of sculptured surfaces for CAD modeling and die manufacturing. Its basic principles are based on geometric optics. Deatiled optical principles and an sub-pixel image processing technique to enhance the measuring resolutions are described in this study. The measuring performances of the slit beam projection are presented and discussed to demonstrate that an actual measuring accuracy of below .+-. 0.2mm can be achived over the whole measuring range(500mm*300mm*200mm)

본 논문은 최소한의 학습데이터를 사용하여 비선형의 응답면을 모델링할 수 있는 방안으로 유전적 프로그래밍을(Genetic Programming, GP)의 사용을 모색하였다. 이때 대두되는 가장 큰 문제는 GP 트리가 부족한 학습 데이터 때문에 심한 Overfilling 현상을 보인다는 점이다.이를 극복하기 위한 방법으로 DDBS (Directional Derivative-Based Smoothering) 기법을 제안하였고, 유용성을 검증하기 위해서 4 가지 응용 예를 보였다.

This paper introduces the genetic programming algorithm(GP), which can approximate highly nonlinear functions, as a tool for the modeling of response surfaces. When the response surfaces is approximated, the very small or minimal teaming set should be used, and thus it is almost certain that GP trees will show overfilling that must be avoided at all costs. We present a novel method, calledDDBS(DirectionalDerivative-Based Smoothering), which very effectively eliminates the unwanted behaviors of GP trees such as large peaks, oscillations, and also overfitting. Four illustrative numerical examples are given to demonstrate the performance of the genetic programming algorithm that adopts DDBS.

본 논문에서는 유전적 프로그래밍(Genetic Programing)을 이용하여 최적의 다항식을 생성하는 기법을 제시하고자 한다. 다항식은 비선형성이 큰 응답면을 모델링해야 하며, 이를 위하여 GP 트리 생성시 2-3차 오더의 Taylor Series를 사용하는 방법을 시도하였다. 아울러 생서되는 다항식의 크기를 제어하기 위해서 GP 트리가 표현할 수 있는 다항식의 최대 차수를 제한함과 동시에 하나의 주 트리와 보 트리로 구성되는 GAGPT(Group of Additive Genetic Programming Trees) 사용을 모색하였다. 마지막으로 두 개의 응용 예를 통하여 본 방법의 유용성을 검증하였다.

This paper deals with the problem of generating optimal polynomials using Genetic Programming(GP). The polynomial should approximate nonlinear response surfaces. Also, there should be a consideration regarding the size of the polynomial, It is not desirable if the polynomial is too large. To build small or medium size of polynomials that enable to model nonlinear response surfaces, we use the low order Tailor series in the function set of GP, and put the constrain on generating GP tree during the evolving process in order to prevent GP trees from becoming too large size of polynomials. Also, GAGPT(Group of Additive Genetic Programming Trees) is adopted to help achieving such purpose. Two examples are given to demonstrate our method.

In the area of assembly process of micro-chips and electronic parts on the printed circuit board, surface mounting device(SMD) is used as a fundamental tool. Generally speaking, the motion of the SMD is based on the ball screw system operated by any type of actuators. The ball screw system is a mechanical transformed which converts the mechanical rotational motion to the translational one. Also, this system could be considered as an efficient motion device against mechanical backlash and friction. Therefore a dynamic modeling and state sensitivity analysis of the ball screw system in SMD have to be done in the initial design stage. In this paper, a simple mathematical dynamic model for this system and the sensit- ivity analysis are mentioned. Especially, the bond graph approach is used for graphical modeling of the dynamic system before analysis stage. And the direct differentiation method is used for the state sensit- ivity analysis of the system. Finally, some trends for the state variables with respect to the design variables could be suggested for the better design and faster operating based on the results of dynamic and state sensitivity.

연하시 설골궤적의 운동학적 모델링 및 표면근전도 활동과의 비교 – 예비연구

Objective: The purpose of this study was to understand the mechanism of normal hyoid movement during swallowing by calculating the activity of each muscle involved in the hyoid movement and propose a new kinetic modeling of hyoid movement using videofluoroscopy images. Methods: Eight healthy volunteers with an average age of 56.8 swallowed 2-ml of diluted barium under videofluoroscopy. A video image was digitized to analyze the movement of the hyoid bone. The activity of the muscles acting on the hyoid bone was calculated from the movement of the hyoid bone using kinetic modeling. A surface electromyogram was measured simultaneously with videofluoroscopy, and the muscle force calculated by kinetic modeling was compared with the muscle force measured by surface EMG. Results: The muscles acting on the hyoid bone were divided into three groups according to the direction of force and analyzed. The contraction of the retractor muscle group was observed as a median of 433 ms (95% CI 264-602, P=0.012) earlier than the contraction of protractor muscle group in all subjects. Generally, the peak activity of each muscle group was observed in the order of retractor (0 ms), protractor (592 ms, 95% CI 429-755), and depressor (717 ms, 95% CI 535-899) muscle group. The contraction of the protractor muscle measured by surface electromyography showed an earlier onset latency with a median of 822 ms (95% CI 615-1029, P=0.012) compared to the contraction of the protractor muscle calculated by kinetic modeling. Conclusion: Kinetic modeling reflects the pattern of contraction in the order of retractor, protractor, depressor muscle groups, as previously known. And it was possible to evaluate the activity of the retractor muscle, which is difficult to evaluate by electromyogram.

In torch weaving in arc welding on V groove, the heat input distribution on groove surface is a main factor determining the bead shape and the weld quality with and without the weld defects such as undercut, overlap, etc. In this study, we calculate the heat input varying with the welding current, arc voltage, welding speed and the touch weaving condition using numerical method. And we investigate the heat input distribution on groove surface while applying the various grooves having 2 dimensional heat sources.

서브디비전 곡면 모델링 기법은 원래 애니메이션 산업을 위해 개발되었지만 건축 디자인 분야에도 도입되었다. 이 연구는 먼저 서브디비전 곡면의 개념과 복잡한 곡면 지오메트리를 다루는데 사용함으로써 얻어지는 장점에 대해 고찰하였다. 그리고 서브디비전 곡면 모델링 기술을 적용하여 디자인된 여러 건축 프로젝트들의 사례를 조사하여 이 디지털 기술이 건축 디자인의 형태를 생성하는 프로세스에 미친 효용성과 잠재력을 분석하였다.

Subdivision surface modeling has been adopted for architectural design process although it was originally developed for animation industry. As a background, this research investigates the definition of subdivision surfaces and the benefit when used to deal with complex curved geometry. Through the case study of various architectural projects for which subdivision surface modeling technique was used, this study analyzes its utility and potential of this digital technology for the form-finding process in architectural design.

이 연구에서는 해운대 석각을 대상으로 3차원 레이저 스캐닝 시스템을 적용하여 디지털복원 및 표면심도 모델링을 수행하였다. 먼저 석각의 3차원 디지털복원은 광대역 및 정밀 스캐너를 이용하여 점군 데이터를 획득하였고, 정합, 병합, 필터링, 폴리곤 메쉬, 도면화 작업 순으로 진행하였다. 특히 정밀 스캐닝 폴리곤은 광대역 폴리곤에 비해 글자의 필획, 음각깊이 및 선명도 등이 매우 뛰어났다. 표면심도 모델링은 폴리곤 분리, 기준축 설정, 기준점 선정, 등고선도 맵핑 및 폴리곤 병합을 통해 완성하였으며, 사진과 폴리곤 이미지에 비해 글자의 상대적 음각깊이(5~17㎜)와 윤곽이 매우 뚜렷하게 나타났다. 광대역 및 정밀 스캐닝을 병합한 디지털복원 기술을 통해 석각의 전체 형태와 미세형상을 신속하고 정확하게 복원하였고, 표면심도 모델링은 육안과 사진으로 불분명했던 부분을 가시적으로 표현해주었다. 앞으로 정기적인 모니터링을 통해 석각의 다양한 손상과 시간에 따른 주변 환경 변화를 수치적으로 분석할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

This study was focused on digital restoration and surface depth modeling applying the three-dimensional laser scanning system of the Haeundae Stone Inscription. Firstly, the three-dimensional digital restoration carried out acquiring of point cloud using wide range and precision scanner, thereafter registering, merging, filtering, polygon mesh and surveyed map drawing. In particular, stroke of letters, inscribed depth and definition appearing the precision scanning polygon was outstanding compared with ones of the wide range polygon. The surface depth modeling completed through separation from polygon, establishment of datum axis, selection of datum point, contour mapping and polygon merging. Also, relative inscribed depth (5~17㎜) and outline by the depth modeling was well-defined compared with photograph and polygon image of the inscription stone. The digital restoration technology merging wide range and precision scanning restored the total and detailed shape of the Stone Inscription quickly and accurately. In addition, the surface depth modeling visibly showed unclear parts from naked eye and photograph. In the future, various deteriorations and surrounding environ-ment change of the Stone Inscription will be numerically analyze by periodic monitoring.

본 연구에서는 방사형 흐름을 가지는 지표 유출수에 대한 오염물질의 초기세척현상 모의를 통하여 주차장과 같은 소규모 불투수 배수구역에서 발생하는 수렴형 강우유출수의 동적 유출특성에 대한 일반적 특성을 고찰하고, 이를 토대로비점오염저감시설의 초기우수처리 효과를 극대화 시킬 수 있는 집수시설 배치 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여1차원 확산파 방정식(diffusion wave equation)과 오염물질 운송방정식을 이용하여 이상적인 방사형 불투수 배수구역에 대한 초기세척현상을 모의 하고, 이 결과를 이용하여 배수구역의 크기에 따른 오염물질의 초기세척강도를 산정 비교하였다. 초기세척 모의결과, 생화학적 산소요구량의 경우 평균경사도 0.02에서 배수구역의 길이 30-50m 범위일 때초기세척강도가 가장 높았다. 이러한 결과는 주차장과 같은 소규모 불투수 구역에서는 강우유출수 집수시설의 위치와갯수를 조정함으로써 배수구역의 길이 변경이 가능하며 이를 통하여 초기세척 강도와 첨두부하를 인위적으로 조절 가능함을 시사한다. 특히 초기우수수 처리에 중점을 둘 경우 집수시설의 위치와 갯수를 적절히 조절하여 초기세척 강도를상승시킴으로써 동일한 용량의 비점오염저감시설로 보다 많은 오염물질 부하저감을 기대할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

In this study, general characteristics of dynamic behavior of stormwater runoff from a small impervious catchment was investigated from a series of simulations for a radial type surface runoff. Based on the simulation results, a better placement strategy for stormwater inlets to improve performance of a structural best management practice (BMP) was suggested. The degree of pollutant first flush from an ideal radial type impervious catchment was simulated using a 1-D diffusion wave equation coupled with a pollutant transport equation. The results showed that the first flush of the chemical oxygen demand was the strongest when the catchment length ranged 30-50m at a bed slope of 0.02. This result suggested that a required degree of the first flush can be intentionally obtained by just changing the locations and numbers of stormwater inlets, and thereby adjusting the catchment length. Particularly, the overall performance of a structural BMP in reducing pollutant load can be improved by placing the stormwater inlets at locations for obtaining a required first flush strength.

본 연구는 틴커캐드(Tinkercad)를 활용한 수학적 모델링 활동이 초등학생의 겉넓이 개념 구성과 모델링 역량에 미치는 영향을 질적으로 분석하였다. 서울 소재 대학 부설 영재교육원에 재학 중인 초등학교 5·6학년 학생(N=20)을 대상으로 예산 제약을 포함한 장난감 기차 만들기 과제를 4차시(160분) 동안 적용하였다. 연구 결과, 틴커캐드의 수정 기능은 현실적 제약 하에서 순환적 모델링 과정을 촉진하였고, 그룹 해제·시점 변환 기능은 접착면 인식의 인지적 비계로 작용하였으며, 3D 모델을 매개로 하는 협력 활동 과정에서 학생들은 수학의 실용성을 재인식하는 태도 특징을 보였다. 본 연구는 디지털 도구의 기능별 조작이 접착면 인식이라는 인식론적 장벽을 낮추는 구체적 경로를 사례로 제시하고, 기능 특정적 비계라는 관점에서 초등 수학 모델링 교육에 실천적 시사점을 제공한다는 데 그 의의가 있다.

This qualitative study examined how Tinkercad-integrated mathematical modeling activities supported fifth- and sixth-grade elementary students (N = 20) enrolled in a gifted education program in recognizing contact surfaces—a primary epistemological obstacle in composite solid measurement—and in developing positive mathematical attitudes. Participants engaged in a four-session (160-minute) "toy train design" task that required balancing creative engineering design with realistic budget constraints. The theoretical framework centered on Blum and Borromeo Ferri's (2009) modeling cycle, with Vygotsky's (1978) ZPD and Wood et al.'s (1976) scaffolding theory serving as analytical tools for explaining the cognitive role of Tinkercad's functions. Three key findings emerged: (1) Tinkercad's iterative modification features facilitated the cyclical modeling process by enabling students to revise their designs under real-world constraints without significant cognitive or physical overhead; (2) the 'ungroup' and 'viewpoint transformation' functions served as function-specific cognitive scaffolds, allowing students to visually isolate hidden contact surfaces and autonomously construct calculation strategies; and (3) 3D model-mediated collaborative interactions were associated with positive attitudinal features—including perceived usefulness of mathematics, interest, and self-confidence—as evidenced by students' discourse during the sharing phase. This study contributes empirical evidence on the function-specific scaffolding mechanisms through which 3D modeling tools lower epistemological barriers in surface area learning, offering practical implications for technology-enhanced mathematical modeling instruction in elementary education.
